Meaning, do you go to work happy hours? Events? Things after work and/or on weekends?

I'll swing by a happy hour every once and a while if some coworkers that I like will be there, but for the most part, I really just come in, do my 9-5, and go home. I feel like my boss is always trying to get me to sign up for outside work events and I always have to come up with excuses lol.

There are a few microbreweries near my company's main office, so prior to my assignment as a field ops guy, I used to hit those up for (sometimes Thursday, usually Friday) Happy Hours with the crew.
I don't think I've ever done anything on weekends, save for our annual Falcons game visit. Hard to pass on a free football game with food, parking, and a box suite provided.

Not nearly enough. It's usually because of exhaustion and limited time (not a work related issue, I have stuff going on at home.) When there is stuff going on IN the office I try to participate like beer and boardgames.

I try to, but I often have other things I'm doing already because my friends like to plan well in advance for stuff because we all work different schedules.

If I can, I typically will, but otherwise, Life comes before Work.

My work schedule (we get to choose our own schedule within a range) is earlier than most and the location/distance really is not really great for after work activities. Then again, I don't really get together with pretty much anyone these days as my life schedule just really doesn't mesh well with pretty much anyone these days.

That said, when I'm out of town on business meaning we're all on the same schedule and usually can walk wherever we want to go, I do tend to go out every night and hang out with somebody either who I'm traveling with or people at the local office.

If the event is during work hours, sure. Outside of my normal work hours? Hells nah, I'm out with the quickness at 5pm.

We only do a few out of work things a year, mostly around Holidays or if someone is leaving/retiring. I've been here 2.5 years and have gone to most of them. It's a small office, only 15 of us and usually only half show up to those things so it's not bad. I do eat lunch with a group of 4-6 coworkers any day I'm in the office at lunch time. It's not a bad place to work.

In some places it matters. In some it does not. I was in a place I was not aware until after the fact that it did matter.

I was a full time employee at a mega corporation. When it came time for completely out of the blue unexpected layoffs, I do believe my higher salary than most (I had been there for quite some time) combined with the fact I hardly ever participated in extracurricular activities made me a prime candidate to be one of the first people laid off. In fact even though eventually everyone was let go, so it was just a matter of time, I was the very first person chosen on the team I was on to be let go initially. It took around 5 months total before everyone was. My manager eventually told me months later (once they were also let go) that the Director of our department at the time who told them they had to break the bad news to me, actually alluded to them how I was not a "team player," and according to them it was specifically because I did not attend stupid shit like going out for drinks after work.

HR forces monthly events, and weekly happy hours/lunches, but it feels inorganic to me and there's usually too many people for it to not be awkward.

I prefer the work environments where you're free to hang out in small groups. This whole open office, lunch and learn, happy hour company-wide events thing blows.

During work hours then yes.

After work my chair is spinning.

It's illegal to have any alcohol on you in Ireland and having to commute is a big no.

At my last job with an office of 2000+ employees I'd go out to work events often and made some good friendships at the office. At this hotel there's 9 of us and I don't really have anything in common with most of my coworkers, so I haven't done anything and don't ever really intend to, either.

We don't really have many of those. I tend to skip the ones that are like picnics or hikes. I'm not traveling way out there to have company mandated "fun" when I could be at home.

If the event is during the work hours i'm doing, no problem at all. Happy to go along as it's a break from the normal work. Outside of working hours, nope. I'm gone and not back until the start of the next shift.

Exceptions include the office Christmas party and nights out.

I'll gladly participate in events that happen during work hours.

Dust trails at 5:00 though.

With my winter job, quite a lot. Working at a ski resort is super fun, there's always something going on, and you work with people from all over the world. On top of that, it's basically a 4 month long "do whatever you want and have as much fun as you can before you go back to real life" atmosphere, so it's hard not to. Everybody wants to hang out and do things and it's great.

On the other hand, my actual "real" job is working remotely with people spread out across North America. So there are zero extra-curricular activities unless we're all at an event.

Not at all to be honest.

I rather participate in my own extra-curriculars since most of the ones we have are just workshops, or committees.

None ever

and if I ever worked for a place that mandated social gatherings I would leave for another job

I actively avoid any non-mandatory meetings and have never attended the regular party events

no thanks, that's why I have a private office so I can be alone lol

Almost never. I start my day before most others in the office and most of the activities are after 5pm, and I'm already long gone by then

Y'all get out of work at 5??? I'm 9-7. Shit I need to change jobs.

To answer the OP, nahhh, not that we really even have gatherings. I keep work life separate in general.

We occasionally have golf and bowling and stuff like that. I usually do that sort of stuff unless there's been weird shit like a government shutdown for the first entire month of the year meaning I can't take time off (these events take place during normal work hours but can't be counted as hours worked)

I work remote, so basically none. Once in a while I happen to be in the office and will do what I can when I'm out there.

For people who've only been working a short time, I'll give this advice: anything you can do after work in the way of hanging out with coworkers (that isn't illegal or shady, obviously), do it. When it comes time for a promotion, a raise, or just who not to lay off, you want to be in the best possible position to benefit. Bosses are human, and when it comes time to reward someone they're going to reward people they like. When it comes time to lay someone off or fire them, they're going to do that to people they don't know well or don't like. It's easier to lay off John, that guy who comes in and sits in his corner for 8 hours a day than it is to fire Joe, the guy I have a couple beers with after work once in a while.

0. Our boss doesn't want to do anything in working hours and FUUUUUUUUUUUCK doing anything related to this place during non-work hours. No one else does btw, because of that.

Y'all get out of work at 5??? I'm 9-7. Shit I need to change jobs.

The are dozen of us!

Yeah, though not all of them. We do have regular company events like parties and summer/Halloween events, and happy hour every Friday evening.

I go to the ones that interest me/seem fun. I work with a lot of awesome people I genuinely love being around, which makes it really easy to be down for after work activities!

Not really involved anymore at all. I used to do stuff after work but now with a young baby at home, no more.

But I still co-run our work basketball league. There's a group of about... 50-70 people in the group but we generally have 15-20 or so who meet up every week and play for two hours, just quick games. I help reserve a gym, collect dues, keep track of whose playing. It's a good group and a lot of fun, with a lot of different skill levels present (novice to people who played D1-D3 ball; with most of us being people who played some high school ball or currently play in other leagues) but we usually match up pretty well.

Not even a little, never really worked in a place where I became anything close to friends with my co-workers, so there's really no drive to take part in those things

I'm on our volunteer committee which sometimes has us volunteering after work (although usually it's during). So yes.

I work for an elected official, so it's pretty much common to do activities after work.

No, but then again I work from home. Even before then, the people in my department didn't really do that (Casino nights etc).

My office/department doesn't even try to schedule stuff outside of work hours. The one time they did in the two years I've worked here, I did not attend. I like my coworkers and will typically attend most in-office events but at the end of the day my coworkers are just work acquaintances and I've got other shit I wanna do outside of work.

I don't attend them unless I'm forced to do so at metaphorical gunpoint. I'm a huge introvert, I'm completely burned out after eight hours in the office, and I want to go home. Spending time with my coworkers isn't a leisure activity, it's just more work, except it's work I'm not being paid for.

At my old employer, I led certain side projects that required me to stay in the office until midnight. I barely went to social gatherings but focused a lot of my extra time on efforts that would accelerate my career.

Now at my new role and employer, I'm in and out.

I'll go to "work parties" which is a fancy way of saying smoking weed in a co-workers apartment with a group of other co-workers while others drink.

There's also birthday parties and other things that I try to participate in if I'm not working my other job.

As little as possible. I wouldn't really even say I have any friends at work. Only acquaintances. I don't participate in any work-related activities that aren't mandatory.
