So Microsoft just announced Game Pass for PC and will also be releasing all their upcoming exclusives on PC. Soon we get to play all the Halo games on PC. Every Xbox exclusive is going to be on PC. Including online play.

And that's where things get weird. PC players will be able to play Xbox games using the same account, connecting to the same servers and using the same friends list as on an Xbox console. But for some reason if you choose to switch from the computer to the console under your TV, you get paywalled out of online features even though it's the same game.

PC gamers are just getting a better deal here. No need for Gold here - all you need is Game Pass for PC (Ultimate is useless for PC-only players), or those who prefer Steam can buy the games there. It makes the next gen Xbox Scarlett look like poor value with the mandatory extra subscription fee.

Will paid online ever die?

Because people still pay it, although it's slowly dying now with gamepass ultimate

PC has multiple launchers for one thing but at the time when Xbox Live came out it was something refreshing to see on consoles that validated the cost. Then over time they tried to add more value with free games and discounts. In other words once you get consumers to get used to paying for soemthing it becomes free money so why would they stop now?

It was the same with Sony allowing free to play online games to not need Plus

It's going to be weird seeing Destiny 2 go from needing Plus to not needing it now it's free to play

The more things that happen that show it to be a farce, the better, it's a scam that needs to die, so hopefully this will just hasten it's death (though probably not)

Console gamers are willing to pay, PC gamers are not.

Fair enough really. You can only blame yourselves.

Competition, like every other client on PC.

Also cause people on console still pay for it, no financial reason to stop until the profit from the "goodwill" on cancelling it exceeds the profit from making people pay for it.

At the end of the day, if you don't want to pay for online get a PC. Microsoft clearly make it easy for you to switch.

Because on console you don't have any other option, and on PC they can't get away with that shit due to competitors such as Steam.

Because you're not buying gold.. You're buying gamepass Ultimate.. which has gold in it still not required but they get an extra 5 for there service i guess. I wouldn't go for it but people who want gamepass will

I'd rather this not blow up so I can actually enjoy the MS exclusives without having to pay 2 subs.

  • No reaction threads – To prevent clutter we will lock all reaction threads during E3. A reaction thread is a topic about a hot take or some other personal reaction to anything that did or did not happen during E3. Examples include "Why wasn't the Switch 2 announced?", "Did Ubisoft just win E3?" and "I can't believe the leaks were real". These sort of topics can be discussed in news threads and conference threads.

You can discuss this in the announcement thread for now or remake this topic after E3.
