Where are we at with the current stimulus negotiations? Has a deal been struck and vote took place?

So about that Jim...

I have a job.

But because of the horrible mishandling of coronavirus the following things have happened:

Everyone's hours got cut by at least 10%. Even as a manager, I lost 4 hours a week. Other employees lost entire days, or multiple days, but are still employed.

Raises have been frozen. No one is getting pay increases for anything this year, or next year.

Bonuses have been scaled back or cut entirely. We used to get a few extra hundred a month from sales goals when we hit them. Because of coronavirus, those goals are much harder to hit and the bonus compensation for hitting them got scaled way back. We are lucky to get an extra $20 a month now.

Our workload has dramatically increased. We are still expected to perform our normal amount of duties - in less time for less pay. And on top of that, deal with COVID related issues - like mask-mandates for customers, curb-side pickup, increased volume from online sales - that we didn't have to before.

And the best part... the business isn't actually struggling. Revenue is actually up YoY. The owner is just taking advantage of the situation to turn the screws on the staff - he claims 'as a precaution against future downturn'. And he can get away with it because everyone is doing the same fucking thing. Either business is down and management is taking the same steps as above. Or it's not down and they are doing it anyway because they can.

So, explain to me how...

Getting less hours, getting less pay, having more workload, and being constantly exposed to COVID is a stimulus?

No. Republicans blocked their own who called at least checks for a vote.

Now they've moved the goalposts to being hung up on federal emergencies spending act as the deal breaker.

More News sunday.

republicans want 600-700/no corporate protections, thats seemingly the compromise.

Australia
I mean, under *gasp* socialism, there'd be a job guarantee, so...

Edit: To add to this, there are morons in the comments saying that there aren't jobs because of the lockdowns - which conveniently forgets to mention the fact that states that did go into lockdown such as Australia or New Zealand have lower unemployment rates than America. Hint: Restrictions or no restrictions, people aren't going to be buying stuff because they don't want to catch COVID.

Did these MAGAts ever study economics?

How has America been so completely fucked over by the right wing forces, that we have gone from the Bush era "working 3 jobs is uniquely American" to "You have to work through this pandemic and if you don't you are lazy and want a handout". They literally want to work people to death. The GOP literally are evil and do not care a single bit about anyone who doesn't have a large bank account.

He's right, it is the best stimulus. So have the government get to it and provide people jobs, there is plenty of work to do.

Easy to say for a bastard who makes $174,000 and fantastic benefits for very little work (just do what you're told like a little bitch for a few months of the year).

The real reason why this statement is asinine is because many jobs nowadays are one or more of the following:

- Contractor
- Vendor
- Independent contractor "be your own boss"
- Temp / gig work paid per job
- Part-time work (working 29.5 hours a week to avoid paying benefits)

All of these models tend to give up 50% of your earnings to some intermediary middle-man, they provide little-to-no job security with no career trajectory, they have terrible benefits like health insurance with $10,000 deductibles and $15,000 out-of-pocket maximums, and they hover just around minimum wage which is unsustainable given the ever-increasing inflation of basic necessities like rent and food.

Sure if you're in a skilled trade, a union, or big tech, a job is a great stimulus. But modern-day corporations aren't incentivized to generate more cushy full-time union jobs with great benefits for most people. That's not cost-efficient and there are no regulations demanding otherwise. Instead, they are incentivized to treat poor and middle-class like slaves and robots with no thought put into their well-being. And in a pandemic, even THESE jobs become a lot more scarce.

Not much point in a job if you're making minimum wage and you're trying to pay down $5000 in back rent and utilities and thousands in credit card debt.

The fact that we don't have people ridiculing and harassing this man and others like him every day is a shame. He shouldn't feel comfortable leaving his house
