Why give them 2 weeks? We already know they are going to ignore it.

Does anyone know what remedies are available legally if and when they refuse to comply?

This is where we see if the court packing has paid off.

It probably has. Once the Supreme Court says, "It's not illegal when Republicans do it, but we'll find a way to execute Democrats if they ever pull this same thing," the country is done. If the Supreme Court only exists to protect Republican illegal activities, and rule of law only applies to opponents, that's when things break down.

I'm starting to believe the House is trying to make Trump's life miserable and make him resign

Lol 2 weeks, they can't afford to let the foot off the gas imo
They have to give them some time. Otherwise they are going to once again argue they didn't give them enough time. Once they don't hand over the documents it becomes another article of impeachment. That's been the strategy they have signaled on this.

Its an impeachment subpoena. There is no legal refusal. The court system has no part in it. There's no appeal. Do this or go to jail.

If the WH doesn't comply they will use it as evidence in the impeachment.

At this point it's all about public approval. We're already around 50% approval for impeachment right now.

What's going on with that deadline? Are the House Democrats giving that much time with the hope that more people also try to jump ship before all hell breaks loose?

SCOTUS (or anyone else) can't block a Congressional subpoenas or overturn Contempt of Congress if Congress fully exercises their power, which includes issuing contempt of Congress citations and using their power to arrest and imprison subpoenaed individuals indefinitely.

The Capital Police only answer to Congress and if Congress isn't playing around this time we may see the first example of their use to imprison someone who defied a Congressional subpoena since 1935.

The Chicken Little-ing in these impeachment threads is getting tiring, just like the 2018 election threads.

The two week time frame is likely mandatory as well. I work for a company that serves subpoenas for documents. Here in Texas, it's 20 says to comply and with federal cases, it's 14 days. Given this would likely be a federal case, I'm guessing that's the reason for two weeks. We've never worked on something like this though so I could be wrong.

Still remember the wealth of democratic politicians who were urged to keep silent when specifically asking for this hardline pursuit of Trump months and months ago.

Sigh. I wish Democrats would have the stones to actually arrest people if they didn't supply the info. Did they even say that Corey Lewandowski should be held in contempt?

The Dems would be forced to. If they don't the entire impeachment proceeding will fail.

They already did this with Mueller, they won't comply, Barr will make sure it gets ignored, the Dems will not do much else besides take it to court where it will sit for months. I have some hope that because it is an impeachment inquiry that they may actually speed up the court process. This also makes the 2 weeks stupid because we know where it's headed so move it along a little faster Dems.

They will have enough time to destroy all the evidence. It's just posturing at this point, and a game of delaying.

Congress has only been deferring people who defy a subpoena to the DOJ as a matter of respect the last 80 years. They don't have to do that at all, they can hold someone in contempt of Congress, fine, and imprison them (with Congress' personal police force, the Capitol Police) indefinitely until the subject of the subpoena complies.

The executive branch and the judicial branch is powerless against Congress in this matter (as intended) if Congress actually chooses to exercise their full power .

The evidence is already known to exist so if its destroyed that's a giant crime in and of itself.

Would be interesting to see what happens if congress tried to use the capital police to arrest someone. I'm guessing whoever is being arrested would have their own forces threaten to shoot anyone who came to arrest them and there'd be a weird standoff.

It would be amazing if the White House ignores the subpoena, and this becomes the point when the Republicans finally vanquish elections and declare Trump Emperor of the United States, and the USA just rolls along with it.
