I have it downloaded and still never played it. I think I need to change that. It's getting so much praise every time it's discussed.
What was wrong with the bench placement? I thought they were a good enough distance to encourage you to get good enough because one may not always be within comfortable distance for safety.Waiting for SilkSong to really perfect it. (Add more fun and original abilities, better bench placement, less long corridors, better rewards for killing hard bosses, and so on)

You have a lot left to do for the best ending. It's tough to figure out the requirements without a guide but you can definitely explore more of the map until a point where you feel like you don't know what to do, then maybe check a spoiler free guide.
Ah gotcha. Yeah that would be appreciated. I don't mind the benches being far away in areas that are intended only for exploration. Before bosses, though, is definitely necessary. One before each boss (Particularly when they are this hard) is basic game design 101 for starters.
Another point the sequel will have to greatly improve.
Me, too. Zero Mission and Aria of Sorrow were really good, though.I enjoyed Monster Boy more than any other Metroidvania since... SOTN.
I don't see how a game can be "far, far better" without that being an exaggeration when Hollow Knight is already a very good game. What heights are you trying to reach? lolI think that Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is far, far better. One of the very best, if not the best, 2D games in 20 years or more.

Also, I've never heard of this game but I might give it a shot.

Oh really? I didn't know. lol Obviously! I'll try it out one day if I can get it cheap.I liked everything from the art and environment/progression design to the gameplay itself in Monster Boy a lot more than I liked Hollow Knight overall. That's why I think Monster Boy is "far, far better" - like a whole lot better. Other people will like Hollow Knight more and that's fine. Not everyone likes the same things.
I cannot agree enough. This is one of the cleanest looking titles I've ever played, and for that reason it makes fighting feel more intuitive as you can clearly see what has to be done - there's no visual obscurity due to grungy or grainy artwork.
No, nothing is visually obfuscated in Hollow Knight. It's very clear what is the foreground versus the background and what is an enemy versus something stationary. I never, EVER, found myself confused, and I've played a lot of games where the experience has been difficult trying to make out enemies from the background. It is in no way a "mess." That's nonsense.What. Hallow Knight is full of visual obfuscation, from unclear background/foreground dichotomies to the awful cracking screen/hitstop effect to fuzzy projectiles. It's a mess compared to the Metroid greats or even more recent games like Guacamelee.
I have 1050 essence so far and no, before entering the Black Egg I was unable to get past those black columns.
I have a 77% completion at 18 hours. Game is so good that I'm considering going back to get the other 23%.
I'll go back to it in a few days or weeks. Right now I want to start the other game I bought during the PSN sale last week, Darkwood. I heard it's an awesome horror game.I'd recommend you to do so. The percentage tracks meaningful content, this isn't one of these games where you end at like 50% and have to grind tedious stuff for the 100%.

i normally prefer short single player games myself but i had no issue staying interested in this one from start to finish. it's constantly throwing new stuff at you up until the end (unless you decide to do some optional postgame/dlc stuff which i didn't). and it's all such high quality that i was always fascinated and entertained. This is one of those games where the length is a huge turnoff to people like me. If this were an 8 hour game I would have been all over it, but hearing its' 20 hours was an instant no. I've heard a lot of people talk about just running out of gas playing this game too, as it's hard for a game like this to sustain interest for that long.
Yeah.. no. Not even close, and Monster Boy is a good game.
HK is just on another level.
I come bearing bad news from the Silksong PAX demo if you think they're gonna start scattering benches everywhere like candy. One before each boss (Particularly when they are this hard) is basic game design 101 for starters.

I found the first few hours of Hollow Knight to be kind of boring. Production values were fine and the world seems plenty big, but I just felt like I had no reason to want to explore the world. I guess the combat was what I disliked most: just a lot of poking at stuff. Using the needle just isn't really fun to me. I stopped playing and haven't gone back yet.
Metroid Fusion was absolutely my least-favorite game in the genre that I've ever played: next to no exploration, arguably way too linear to even be considered a Metroidvania, interrupted too often by story sequences.
So...yeah, I guess both were about as satifying to me...?

One of the closest things to a "perfect" game I've ever played. Might I recommend this excellent video from Game Maker's Toolkit:
That's true, but you can play Silksong for the first time whenever it releases. The problem with hollow knight is i cant play it for the first time again
And i cant wait, but part of what makes hollow knight so special is the surprise of it. I'd never seen map design both so open yet so careful before, there's a vibe that just like any other game either. Silksong can be a better game but it cant catch me off guard the same way. Obviously I'm there day one but i would kill to forget about hollow knight and just explore it againThat's true, but you can play Silksong for the first time whenever it releases.
Hollow Knight deserves to be on the same pedestal that SotN and Super Metroid are placed on.
So I'm not good with side scrollers but been having a blast with Bloodstained, is the difficulty too much for a newbie like me or should I just go ahead and buy it, wouldn't mind out of pure support for the devs.
