Since you sound like you plan to buy this game, congratulations are in order.
You already are an evil asshole.
It always amuses me when I see people make this kind of comment, like we're supposed to care that there are places out there that make fun of ERA, and it comes from a poster that continues to use the forum that is the butt of said mocking. You participate here, you are this place! This is why people make fun of this place.
It's just a game. Jesus calm down.
That works with Minecraft where the creator is completely and totally divested from/unconnected to the property and financially supporting the property grants no wealth to the creator. It doesn't work here and is akin to covering your ears and shouting to drown out reality.
They will be fine. Much like Atlus/Sega And Thq and SE there will be a neglible effect on sales. It sucks for the fans who escaped in this series and now can only associate it with a hateful woman. Losing something like that is painful.
Holy shit this is my dream game. I am super in. Looks incredible.
But yeah fuck JK's transphobic comments. Ugh. I am so conflicted.

This is reductive.Buying video games are evil.
No wonder people mock this website. It's more nuanced than "You are an evil asshole"
This is reductive.
JK Rowling directly profits from every piece of Harry Potter merchandise, including this game. Rowling is a TERF and advocates for anti-trans causes. Thus, buying this particular, individual video game ensures a bit of money will inevitably go to anti-trans causes.
you can probably buy it used one week after it releases for even a couple bucks off, but, people can't be patient.
right... but one would hope that people could still be allowed to be excited for the product.that shouldn't stop people from voicing their anger towards her
She'll likely get a small commission on every copy sold. I know that's what happened with Goldeneye on N64.
Buy it used / borrow it from someone my good sir/madam.
I've said that already but I'm calling this because I imagine there are a lot of people with this conflict going on, I commend you for that and not just blatantly disregarding the issues surrounding the intellectual property.
Do people forget that you don't have to buy things right away? Is FOMO really that big of a thing in the gaming community?
And if people choose not to give money for this game because she's a TERF, then it reduces the chance of her being paid for something else in the future. I know it's minuscule that that will happen, because gamerz gotta have their game and "love the art not the artist" or some shit, but there we go.
It's unfortunate that you're in this position given the controversy JK Rowling has created. Game looks amazing though, can definitely see that you all put in a lot of work.Gee thanks for your support guys I only worked on this game for 3 years...
That is well into "no ethical consumption under capitalism" territory. At that point you can't avoid your money going to shitty people. Avoiding the game is enough. If this is on Gamepass at all, and you have Gamepass, will JK likely see any of your money? Even if you don't download it/play it?
right... but one would hope that people could still be allowed to be excited for the product.

I know it sometimes feels like pissing in the wind, but being defeatist about this sort of thing is the wrong attitude to take. JK Rowling is a TERF and no one should support anything that directly or indirectly benefits her financially. She's made enough money for more than one lifetime - better to support creators who don't treat marginalised folk like subhuman garbage.
The game looks interesting, but it's a big no for me. Don't ever give these bigots an ounce of support.
Game looked amazing, wondering how cross-gen it will be though.
