Did some digging through the GTA V sales numbers and its amazing to see how strong this is game is still going

History of #GrandTheftAutoV Sales Numbers:

Day 1: 11.2m (September 17, 2013 launch on PS3/X360)
October 2013: 29m
Dec 2013: 32.5m
March 2014: 34m
Dec 2014: 45m (November 2014 launch on PS4/XB1)
March 2015: 52m
June 2015: 54m (April 2015 launch on PC)
Dec 2015: 60m
Dec 2016: 75m
March 2017: 80m
Dec 2017: 90m
March 2018: 95m
Sep 2018: 100m
March 2019: 110m
Sep 2019: 115m
Dec 2019: 120m
March 2020: 130m
June 2020: 135m
Dec 2020: 140m

That would put yearly sales at:

2013: 32.5m
2014: 12.5m
2015: 15m
2016: 15m
2017: 15m
2018: ~15m
2019: ~15m
2020: 20m

Sources: Take Two Quarterly Reports & Conference Calls

As was specified in today's conference call Grand Theft Auto V sold more units in calender year 2020 than any other year since launch year in 2013. And with the Remaster/Enhanced Edition coming in H2/2021 for Xbox Series X|S and PS5, GTA V has plenty of mileage left.

I wonder what sells more copies GTA online or RP. On steam RP tends to have more concurrent players. But with consoles I'm sure GTA online puts it over.

Every year there's a new 10 year old being gifted GTAV.

GTAVI will exist at some point because even if it isn't as successful as V it will not suddenly make it disappear. If people don't like VI they'll just go back to V. What's important to Take2 is to keep making that online money.

Isn't it dirt cheap now? I bought it on the 360 and the One digitally, and have a X1 physical copy sitting on my shelf from when Amazon gave it away for free.

It's weird, I know GTA Online grew in popular after its release but I felt like it was on the decline since like, 2018.

This single game has sold more than some entire series of iconic successful franchise. I genuinely don't understand how it can sell do much, it just doesn't make sense.

Maybe if it got rid of its old yee Yee ass haircut, it might get the next gen consoles on its dick. Or better yet, Rockstar may finally get round to making some single player DLC and it could finally surpass the 200 million sold mark. Houseeeeeeeeeeeer!

They gotta be fiddling the numbers or doing something dodgy surely, that's insane numbers. How can it still be selling like hot cakes? I refuse to believe it.

2023 is my guess. Series X/S and PS5. PC, 8 months later. It will be huge. Just like V and RDR2 it will focus on SP the first month, and then launch a big MP mode. No SP DLC.

So true though.

I love Rockstar but I hate their ongoing decision to abandon SP DLC.

The fact that we aren't getting another Red Dead Nightmare running on the RDR2 engine is a fucking travesty.
