How soiled would your pants be after that, Era?

Dude is really enjoying the post game interview 😂

Under no circumstances would I be holding a fucking phone while a cougar is in pursuit. Need those hands for defense, lol.

Saw this and obviously thought of what he did wrong but I have no way to say I wouldn't react similarly in such a terrifying scenario lol, but drop the damn phone!

She definitely didnt want to attack, she was escorting him away from her cubs that he approached. If he stopped recording and thrown a rock sooner she probably wouldn't have gone so far after him

Holding your phone isnt the posture you want if you're trying to scare off an angry mom

Closest to that I've been was the chance encounter with an aggressive street dog in an alleyway at night.

It wasn't that big of a dog and I just shouted and cussed at it as it went for the bite and it backed off.

Dunno if cussing would work on a puma.

There's a longer video out there of him willingly approaching some cubs, which is the first thing they tell you not to do in Hiker 101.

Idiot is lucky she just wanted to herd him away.

i really enjoy hiking, only go about once a month or once every two months, but this is by far my biggest fear. i do think i was being stalked once. off trail down the side in dense thicket, i heard something rustling and snapping brances/twigs/etc.

Yeah I think he said he thought they were bobcats but trying to get a closer look is the dumbest thing he could have done lol. Guy is very lucky he didn't just get attacked out of nowhere before he even realized what he did

Yeah I live in the southwest and I think coming across a mountain lion cub while hiking would be way scarier than a rattler.

A bit scary but I don't think the conger wanted to do anything other than to get him away from her cubs. These guys though we're definitely on the menu 😳

Yes this would cause me to lose control of my bowels.

I would have passed out on this one:

"please go away"

I jog in a local trail here in a suburb of Chicago and I shit myself when I see a harmless deer on the path. My bowels would implode if I came across a cougar.

Yeah, BIG mistake there. You can see the mannerisms when she got especially close with those open, short range lunges in his direction.
It was less "I'm hunting you." and more "You need to fuck off, then fuck off some more, sir."

Those lunges are amazing! What a graceful being. 'Chase' and 'stalking' as others have said is the wrong wording.

The young man should educate himself better if he is an 'avid hiker'.

There was no point in that video where that cougar couldn't have pounced on him in one leap. All I kept thinking about was all those damn rocks.

1). Why not throw one earlier

2) Don't trip on them lol

I think the one thing he did that was smart was not running away.

I know she was just chasing him off, but I'd be afraid that running would trigger a chase response, as it does in many predators.

Given that he's willing to approach wild animals while hiking alone, I wonder if anyone had any idea where to even start looking for his carcass.

Don't mess with cougars. I saw one pacing on the trail when I was mountain biking in Orange County, CA years ago. It was waiting for someone to pass. I kept my distance and after it disappeared , I waited some more, then sprinted past on the trail. I was lucky. About a year later, a cyclist was killed by a cougar at the same spot. They eventually did hunt and kill that cougar, but they are not to be trifled with.

You know you're a bad motherfucker when even an elephant with two people on its back doesn't intimidate you.

Feels like throwing rocks wouldn't have been the right move here. Wouldn't he then be seen as even more of a danger toward the cubs by the mama?

I would have thrown the rock way, way before 6 minutes. Would have been scared shitless for sure, but I would have thrown large rocks.

Watched this morning, best parts were, "i'm big and scary!" And, "go eat your babies!"

I know you're supposed to be loud and look big to the predator, but the stuff he was saying was hilarious.

I'm no expert, but I read that you aren't supposed to turn your back on them or reduce your posture to pick up a rock because they may instinctively choose to strike even if they didn't originally intend to.

I've always meant to asked what happened immediately after the end of this gif with the Tiger.
