Easily the best miniseries I've ever watched. I cried during that finale and during that final montage
Perfection
Perfection
Yeah I kinda spent the last fifteen minutes of the episode in tears. The closing of the trial and then the montage just destroyed me in a way I didn't think it would.I was not expecting to be crying during the 5 minute 'montage of real life images and text about what happened' but i did and a lot of award should go its way. So relevant to today with the war on truth.
Some would say we already have: 9/11, Mass shootings, racial tensions, etc.The cost of believing in lies is pretty damn high.
The US at the moment is following in the footsteps of the Soviet Union. I hope we don't have our own Chernobyl like disaster.
Is there a reason why Legasov's specific response to the KGB deputy is "they should put that on our money?"
It sounds like a reference that went over my head.
Exactly. Just like Thrones. Short and tight. Perfectly done. Just like Thrones. This series has convinced me that I'd rather take a well put together mini series over a seasonal show. Short, concise and impactful is the way to go.
Please tell me how it's possible for the final season to explode.Exactly. Just like Thrones. Short and tight. Perfectly done. Just like Thrones.
Thrones.
Please tell me how it's possible for the final season to explode.
The showrunners clumsily rushed the story, and the script writing was tipped with hackery. Please tell me how it's possible for the final season to explode.
The show practically beating the audience over the head about listening to scientific research and reality over blind loyalty to a party system.Oh my god the amount of people (not here) that are only seeing this show as "Socialism = bad" ... it makes me not want to show this to my dad, he'll be the same way.
Was Dyatlov as much of a cartoonish asshole in real life? I get they used him to be the symbol for Russian arrogance, but cmon...
Every account I have read of the man portrayed him as an overbearing berating asshole. Yes. Once again the show probably downplayed the reality of the person as to not come across heavy handed.

And lol when Valery actually dropped his presentation card during the trial. Show veered to far into the character cliche of a scientist who's right but may be ignored because he's awkward/ too passionate".
Show was well done but heavy handed
My man's body never being recovered and the firefighter's wife still being alive and with a son was many emotional swings for me. Many.I was a wretch during the last bit with all the actual footage. Fantastic final, fantastic show.
I watched a documentary that was made years ago on Youtube about it and Dyatlov was not too far off in it. Might read up on some of this.
He was that much of an asshole. He never admitted he fucked up, and even before his death he said "everyone would have done the same as me".
wow this guy sucks thenEvery account I have read of the man portrayed him as an overbearing berating asshole. Yes. Once again the show probably downplayed the reality of the person as to not come across heavy handed.
Yup, the parallels to today is what makes an already infuriating show (in a good way, drama/narrative-wise) even more infuriating and resonant.Which is hysterical because the entire damn thesis of the show, ie - "What is the cost of lies?", is quite literally the opening and closing lines of the series. The show beats it into the head of the viewer the cost of ignoring scientists, facts, and reason and instead choosing to believe the government's convenient lies.
Climate change? Why worry about something that isn't happening? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's not really similar but Sharp Objects (also on HBO) came out last year and was amazing.Anybody else know of a limited mini-series on par as this one? I wanna watch something like this again.

I do hope that was most people's take-away. Lies -- small or big, state secrets or in your own home -- carry a price and a burden, and will be collected upon sooner or later. They cast a shadow of pain and regret.
"When They See Us" and "Chernobyl" are the best miniseries of 2019.
Jared Harris in that "courtroom" was mesmerizing. And this miniseries was everything I could have hoped for with this event.
Final episode was amazing. Jared Harris and his fucking awesome performance. I wasn't expecting to cry at the final couple of minutes but those men and women risked their lives to save a bunch of people and for the truth. I'm glad that Vasily's wife was able to get pregnant again.

Thanks for the recommendations!
Not just the best thing I've seen this year, but one of the best in years. I'm curious what Johan Renck and Craig Mazin will do next.Seriously. I was just asking my fiance how we bother with any other shows this year. The bar has been set!

Dunno man. Will be a tough year. It's been an amazing year already for film.
I'm actually in the same boat. I take antidepressants and due to a medication change I was emotionally drained and haven't cried in a while. Tonight was the first time after a while, thanks for recommending Band of Brothers.Band of Brothers? That's a different beast though. I don't think anything quite matches what this show pulls off.
A couple of months ago I was diagnosed as Bipolar II. Long story short, I started medication treatment which has helped me incredibly. I haven't been able to cry on this medication, even to things that used to make me incredibly sad and tearful. No tears would fall even when I wanted them to. I cried tonight.
Yeah I still can't believe this is the same dude who wrote all of that garbage XD
Scary Movie is basically citizen kane so it all makes sense
It was actually a really good explanation too.The pleasant surprise is that after you finish this series you actually understand how the goddamn reactor exploded.
