I was about to do this with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven, but I literally missed the sale by a day or two (it was EIGHT DOLLARS before!!!)

I love the music in this game. I know the game isn't very good, but the soundtrack definitely is.

I'm a huge fan of rock in general, and this game seems full of pretty good rock music. The Caesar theme I linked above has some killer piano. Johnny's is the perfect old west anti-hero rock theme.

I guess I'm not getting the game since I missed the sale, but I was thinking about it, if only for the soundtrack. Even though people told me not to.

Midgar, With Love
Happened to me with Chrono Cross. I hadn't played Chrono Trigger yet (though I got right on that ASAP) but the previews gave away just enough music that, in conjunction with my love for Mitsuda's Xenogears OST, I just knew that I needed the game.

The music in the Nier Automata early trailers made me interested in the game, or are atleast a very big part of why I took a closer look. Now it's one of my favourites this gen.

I bought POI because of the music in this trailer

The game is very kid friendly and easy. My niece who came to visit last month enjoyed it

Did this with FFXV and ended up loving the game, but man that OST just drove that experience for me; wouldn't have worked otherwise.

Pretty much the reason why I got into Persona and MegaTen. Oh, and NeiR as well.

I did for the .Hack and .Hack//GU series. The trailer music was so good it was enough for me to buy the games and ignore the average reviews.

However the reviews were right....

Yep. Persona 5. I hadn't been sold on the game, thanks to not really being impressed with Persona 4, but after seeing the positive comments of a lot of people I decided to watch an LP midway through just to see if maybe I was interested. Of course, Last Surprise was playing, and even a few days after watching that LP it was stuck in my head. I managed to find a copy for cheap, and bought it. Only later did I find out that the soundtrack as a whole is genuinely fantastic, and Last Surprise isn't even necessarily the best song - Beneath The Mask (rain), Life Goes On, The Days When Mother Was There, and Allleycat can all take that claim but it's so hard to choose.

Suffice to say it's become one of my favorite ever series, P Studio became one of my favorite studios, and I even bought a Vita and Wii U so I could play through Persona 4 Golden and Tokyo Mirage Sessions. I never saw it coming :D.

Doom 2016. I think I've maybe played the opening 40 minutes or so but I've listened to the soundtrack dozens of times and bought it on the strength of that. The game itself isn't for me though.

Stardew Valley for me. I absolutely love the music. I tried the game, and liked it, but didn't really get into it, but the music floored me.

Also Furi.

Turned out to be a good game, but at the time that I purchased Nier, it was still pretty under the radar and mostly known for its music more than anything else.

I'm perpetually mulling over buying Octopath Traveller with its wildly divisive era reactions keeping me on the fence, and that's pretty much because the OST is top tier.

Oh and Tengami, you wait what feels like 15 years for a new David Wise soundtrack and then two come along in the same year, Tengami is a pretty standard artsy indy title using the pop up book aesthetics to carry it, I was basically just there for Wise. Not his best work but it was nice hearing him tackle Japanese style music.

A mountain in the US
Often. Like 6 versions of Taiko no Tatsujin, several versions of Pop'n Music, DJ Max, Cytus 2, Deemo, Project Diva, and a few other rhythm games.

Now to a non-smartass answer. I think I was heavily influenced to play Sayonara Wild Hearts, Jet Set Radio, Undertale, and a few Falcom games because of their soundtracks.

Yes, Ape Out. I guess Halo ODST is another example but that game was amazing in its own right.

Oh yes. A good portion of my physical collection of games is for this reason alone. I blindly purchased Taito games as a kid because I always figured the music was going to be awesome. I bought Oz and Bujingai on Ps2 just from listening to the trailer songs and OST snippets. Tekken titles, Ridge Racer, you name it.

More recent examples: Atelier Escha and Logy and Soul Calibur V because they feature tracks by Hiroki Kikuta.

I bought Sky Odyssey because I had read that Shadow of the Colossus composer Kow Otani had worked on that game. It was cheap so it was no big deal.
