Part 2 was a great disappointment for me. The story was unnecessary brutal and moralising, while the gameplay didn't bring enough innovation.. So not interested in Part 3, no.

These games are hard to make, and hard to come by. They did an unbelievable job with Part 2, its an all time great game.

I need more Ellie. I want Part III.

I HATED the gameplay of the first game, but really enjoyed the story. Couldn't even bring myself to finish the second game, even though the gameplay was better.

Lol, our trust. They will either make or not make a Last of us 3. What we think of it has very very little to do with it since it has been financially very successful.
Additionally, its their title and they can do with it whatever they like. the only part you play is either buying it or not.
Lol true lmao.

They have my trust to make damned near any game they want. They need to work on representation issues for sure though.

Even though I ended up miffed with Tlou2, Naughty Dog made an incredible game and you can bet that my butt is gonna be hyped for a part III.

Absolutely. They're masters in their craft and each project of theirs has done nothing but hone and refine their skills.

That being said, I don't much care for Abby or Lev as characters. I'd much rather this hypothetical sequel focus almost exclusively on Ellie.

As someone that didn't want a TLOU2...yes. Still don't necessarily want a Part 3 but I'd absolutely take it.

I don't think our trust has anything to do with it but at this point I'd personally prefer if they made something else even though I know they will come back to a part 3 after probably one other game release. I had particular problems with part 2's pacing which were quite similar to my issues with Uncharted 4's pacing so I dunno anymore. They used to be one my favorite devs pre-uncharted 4 but they've been moving in a different direction that's not as interesting to me.

Sure. From a narrative and gameplay standpoint, I personally don't feel I need a Last of Us Part III. But having said, both Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part II were sequels I never asked for because I was pretty satisfied with their predecessors left things. And yet Uncharted 4 wound up being my game of the year in 2016, and while I can't say for sure where TLoU Part 2 ends up on my list this year, it's definitely in the running for me.

So if ND wants to do a Last of us Part 3, I'd definitely want to play that. But at the same time if they don't, I'm fairly satisfied with where Part II ended the story.

Though I'm kind of tired of the overall predictability and sometimes tediousness of the combat scenarios. I would love to see a proper conclusion. Ellie needs to finish the mission that was started in the the original game imo.

Part 3 doesn't need to exist and anyone saying it should exist doesn't understand what happened in 2 well enough.

I am not gonna say that that is impossible, but I feel especially with Part II, the series just isn't about finding the cure for humanity. It's about a girl that happens to be immune, and the drama that surrounds her and her relationships.

I'm definitely annoyed by the incredibly unrealistic take on Jerry being the BEST DOCTOR THAT EVER DOCTORED AND WITHOUT HIM WE ARE LOST.

It's simply asinine that the game would frame Jerry as just the one guy who could make a vaccine out of Ellie.

No.
I'm fucking tired of seeing this kind of discussion among people. There was no reason to make Part 2, as much as I enjoyed the game the story that needed to be told should have ended in Part 1, and then have Part 2 be strictly the story with Abby as her part of the game was much more enjoyable than Ellie's simply because it was NOT Ellie. It's the same reason as to why I dislike Uncharted 4, but they showed that if they are going to make a new game, it shouldn't always have the main character('s) of the franchise be front and center.
I wanted a new original ND game to come out this gen, and I really really wish they made something else this gen other than something down to earth realistic. They're an incredibly talented team that keeps having frequent burnout and a churn of employees over the last few games they've put out, and they keep burning talent with insane unnecessary detail, mixed with cognitive dissonance (Uncharted) and torture porn that could be in a literal snuff film (The Last of Us 2 specifically).
Of course, before I'd want them to work on another game, I want them to fix the fucking issue with turnover, burnout, and crunch before I want them to touch another line of code, draw another texture, make another damn sound effect, otherwise I'm going to just enjoy literally any other game that doesn't sacrifice it's workers (I'm including CDPR in this as well, but for many MANY reasons rather than just what ND has done).

I wasn't really happy about the prospect of a sequel to the first game, but they nailed it so perfectly that I'm absolutely down for more if they want to do it

Nope, I couldn't care less about any character in TLOU universe after part 2. Therefore I hope part 3 will focus on new characters, but in that case I'd hope that they will make a new IP instead

They've mad two TLOU games and both have been critically and commercially successful. ND can do whatever they want and I'll still get their next game.

I mean I never took it as them saying he is the best doctor ever in the history of anyone.
Every doctor in the world would have been on the front lines went shit went down. So in this post apocalyptic world with no kind of wide communication like internet obviously, how would they even know where to find another doctor or surgeon that could do it? They could wander around the country and maybe not find a single one.

Best or not, the narrative frames him as being the one man who could make a vaccine. No one puts to question his claims or that without him, they can't even try to make a vaccine. And while the internet may be gone, books certainly aren't. They should be available somewhere for people to read and learn from. And also, if he was taking in students, Jerry should have obviously taught students on how to make vaccines. Doctors should be common, if anything, because special attention would have to be paid to infected. And even if not, Jerry mentioned in his recording that he had experimented on other people in search for a cure. He should have extensive research notes that tell what he's looking for, what his plan is, what the other subjects were lacking that he needed.

Part of the many things that need to happen for the crisis in the final act of TLoU to happen is that Jerry just needs to be the one guy who can make this happen and also be right about how to handle Ellie's immunity. And for story purposes, I accept it, but it's arguably the least realistic thing about this series that tries to be realistic about so much. Jerry is just this super mega doctor that is framed as the one guy who can make this work, which is nonsensical. At the very least, there should be a TEAM of elite doctors rather than just one guy. But one guy is more dramatic.

Has the studio earned my trust to create more games using their own IP with two of the best games period...hmm...yeah I think they have. This reads like you meant a different series that isn't theirs altogether. No I don't necessarily trust ND to make a Zelda game :P

Ellie being a teen that became an adult is a very real explanation for why her personality changed. Our brains are in constant development up until the age of ~25, so yes, there's plenty of change for formative growth. Ellie went from being a 14-year-old that was under the protection of Joel until she became an adult and became a protector of the people of Jackson. She's literally a patroller for the community, and in that role, she's an adult that protects other people. She's no longer a burden to anybody. Up until Jackson, she had all of her decisions made for her by other people. She has independence, and she gained that independence during key formative years. Like it or not, people change, and I'd rather have characters in my stories that reflect the reality of our life where people are prone to changing.
I don't understand your point about Ellie helping the community and how it plays into her mentality change to never being positive about anything anymore.

But the first part of your explanation I think I understand. You're saying "that's just how brain chemistry worked out for her" and that's why she went from happy, positive 16 year old with love of comics, dinosaurs, puns and astronauts to someone who's never positive about anything within 3 years and who doesn't see how terrible it is to let her loved ones join in on her personal revenge quest.

Since I don't want to repeat my mostly ignored arguments a third time, I hope you're ok if I stop getting back to this discussion from now on.

I'd be down for a part 3 if the primary protagonist was Abby or someone new

Yes in terms of quality

No in terms of work conditions.

They need to fix their issue with crunch and work culture. Extremely important!
