I expect:
  • 30 fps lock
  • Limited only to 720p and 1080p
  • Exclusive fullscreen only
  • No graphical options, just Default and Normal presets
  • No FOV slider, set to 55 by default
  • Motion blur, film grain, vignette and chromatic aberration always on
  • Tons of mouse smoothing and acceleration
  • Can't rebind controls
  • Can't use mouse on menus
  • No sound options
  • Tiny subtitles
  • Can't alt-tab
  • No quit to desktop button

Being Microsoft of late they'll probably do no fullscreen option at all.

Have a look at the fourth option... ;)

No exclusive fullscreen mode, though. This seemed to be a big deal on reddit at least.

Not entirely sure why, if I'm being honest. Never had any issues with borderless fullscreen, it's always ran more or less identically to exclusive fullscreen for me, doesn't mess with g-sync, input lag and tearing was much better (or, er, there was less of them?) in borderless modes before I got this g-sync monitor, etc.

for me not running games in exclusive fullscreen can result in small but noticeable lag in my m/kb. It's small enough that in Destiny 2 I play with borderless fullscreen or whatever it's called in that game, because of the convenience of using my second monitor seamlessly, but when I get down to important stuff like trials, I switch to fullscreen for that increase in responsiveness.

So yeah, kinda expected they wouldn't have an exclusive fullscreen based on the beta, and it's kind of annoying.

Have they fixed controllers on PC for release? The previews have been amongst the worst controller on PC experiences I've had.

Yeah it's super bad. But what's weird is I know some people who had no issue with it. But like, it was unplayably bad for me. The game feels amazing with m/kb, but I'd really like to be able to use a controller. It just feels awful.

Why can't infinite just use the new controls they added to MCC. Those are absolutely perfect for me.

Gotcha. Input lag does suck, so I guess I should count myself lucky that it's not an issue I've had.

Yeah, it's very very small. It was more a thing where I switched to fullscreen and was like whoa, something just feels better. Took me a while to sus out what that feeling was. It's subtle but it made a big difference for me.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. I spoke to some other folks and yeah some folks just dont mind it, but it was unplayable for me. KBM worked fine but I suck bad with that input and would rather not think about about input when playing.

Yeah, and some people were like oh don't worry it just has lower aim assist it's just more difficult. And I'm like no, no the very act of looking around feels utterly undoable for me. It just feels so bad to use. And another guy I was playing with said the same thing. He spent the entirety of our time playing just every once in a while trying to tweak, and he's like, I never had to do this with any other halo, even 5. Maybe change sensitivity but that's it.

100% my experience during each preview. I spent the majority of my time fiddling trying to get it to feel not like anus and it just resulted in a very frustrating time and I couldn't enjoy it and get into the sandbox, changes and all the little stuff folks are arguing over. When something so basic feels so bad it just got in the way of everything else.

Am I hooked on hopium if I wish for some campaign footage? I guess I'm on board the hopium train.

Seriously though, I expect so little of the campaign to be shown if any, probably a technical showcase and that's it... but still hyped for it.

Haha. It is hard to convey sarcasm in writing without immediately giving it away.

I even own the MCC on PC, I know they wouldn't even begin to half-ass Infinite on PC.

I was so confused, but should have seen it coming. I accept my defeat and my sarcasm meter being broken here.

as far as im aware DX12 games fix borderless fullscreen so that feels identical to exclusive fullscreen. it felt pretty good to me in the flight, and I'm extremely sensitive to it

pretty sure Infinite is DX12 and DX12 doesnt even have exclusive full screen support. But you get all the benefits of it anyway - it's a lot better than DX11 where borderless/windowed modes can indeed cause performance drops or input delay.

Does Windows 7 even have the required DirectX compatibility any longer? Some googling told me that Windows 7 support ends right about when Halo gets released, so I would not bet on it.

Usually this stuff works cause there are workarounds devs can implement, especially for ppl that have a DX12 compatible graphics card (I do). There are several games that are listed to work only on Windows 10 but still work on Windows 7 out of the box (Diablo 2: Resurrected for example) so its always a question I ask myself when a game is listed as Windows 10 only.

I guess the multiplayer will be free so I will just be able to see for myself, though ideally I would like to know it beforehand because if it doesnt work, I might upgrade to Windows 10 beforehand.

I hope performance is actually good for me at the full release. In the first insider test with a 3080 and 3900x, in order to get 60 fps I had to drop it to 1080p at low settings on everything. And I still had stuttering

Discord

Out-of-game, we've worked closely with services like Discord and Razer Chroma RGB as well as platforms like Steam and Xbox Game Pass to ensure Infinite takes advantage of the most each has to offer for PC players. Including a rich presence in Steam and deep integration with Discord, featuring support for in-game Discord server invites.

Sigh. AMD partnered means probably no DLSS and especially when RT is coming, it really should imo.

Deathloop added DLSS despite being AMD partnered though so.. who knows. Worst case, it could support intels DLSS down the road, but remains to be seen how that'll compare to DLSS

So a graphics card, that is regular MSRP at $1000, is now getting a special Halo version, that will probably not really be available to many people at all and sell for at least double that...

I don't think AMD is partnered with it? I know it has AMD tech, but I don't think they were official partners?

Really missed ViDoc's. Hope they have more soon.

Won't be sold officially:

Rest assured, while the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Halo Infinite Limited Edition graphics card won't be going on sale, AMD, Halo, and other partners will be offering players multiple opportunities over the coming weeks to get their hands on one.

Looks like they put some good work into the PC version. I might give the campaign a go at some point, but I need to play Halo 3 and 4 first. I bought the MCC in a Steam Sale recently.

Yeah sorry believe you're right. I thought they were partnered but yeah just used their tech as you said. Yeah makes it less likely for Halo to use it then.

Good video for people who have not played the tests or followed any of their previous PC articles. Unfortunately it was a bit of a waste of time for me.

Deathloop is not AMD partnered. Supports FSR, but not AMD partnered, so it got DLSS shortly after launch.

Yeah I think the only new info is that there will be a crossplay ranked queue, in addition to console-only or pc-only ranked queues

Worse - It means the Raytracing will be Software-based instead of Hardware-Accelerated/RTX

At that point... Why even bother?

This is great news. Uny confirmed in this instance it means cross-input, so console/PC on controller, console/PC on KBM, and mixed. From what I can gather.

Ahhh this is even better.

I hope the cross-input ranked queue is the "definitive" one đź‘€.

Only cause I prefer m/kB and want to play where most people are
