Just realized my system doesnt have enough RAM--DOH!

Min requirements are:
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580 - 6GB VRAM
I have:
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 3770K
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GTX 1070 (8GB)
  • Mobo: Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe
1) Is my CPU too old? I tried finding comparison charts, but had no solid luck.
2) I need more RAM! Is the Crucial website still good for finding compatible RAM automatically? If not, who is better? Corsair still awesome?

I'm sooooooo bummed! :(

quoting for new page. anyone?

1 hour to go (well, more like an hour and a half likely with unpacking factored in) it hasn't really hit me yet, it doesn't feel like a new half life is really only an hour away. It's gonna be wild getting thrust back into that world, I remember when Half life 2 came out people would jokingly post a real life picture of a guy holding a crowbar in first person saying "This is what Half Life 3 will be like" and....I guess they weren't entirely wrong about that.

So excited just one hour away now. So glad I got index controllers for my Vive just in time. I didn't really feel like using the Vive wands again for this

Laptops and VR often don't play super nice together.

Give it a shot but if I were you I would just wait until I got back to my beast rig at home.
I've been playing a ton of other VR titles with the laptop, Boneworks, Space Pirate Trainer, H3VR, Blade & Sorcery - all work great or they did over the weekend when I was testing the setup. So, hoping Alyx runs as smoothly too.

My laptop has better specs than my desktop believe it or not (Time for an upgrade), and it has been running VR fine. I think as long as you can keep it cool you shouldn't have any problems with a laptop.

I have the same question actually. Where are the Supersampling options in the new SteamVR?

edit: You need to have the headset plugged in.

I'm afraid according to the RAM Quality Vendor List for your motherboard, you cannot install more than 8GB of RAM. Your CPU is actually slightly better than i5-7500 however only supports DDR3. I think you'd better off with a new build, Intel or AMD (which means a new mobo, cpu, and RAM) which you can do cheaply if you want to bring over the graphics card. I'd recommend 16GB of DDR4 RAM for a new build at least.

If you need assistance in people recommending you a pc part picker list for pricing, head on over to the PC Builders thread and we'll help you out. You'll likely be able to salvage hard drives, the psu, and case as well.

Sorry if I'm being a dumb-dumb, but is this worthwhile to look at for an owner of a Quest like me who'll be running ALYX through Link? Will this basically help me getting better performance (should I need it) on a i7-6700/980TI?

That's good! Laptops can often have bandwidth related issues for VR, but if it works for those games it should work for this.

I wanna get this, but I'm not sure how it'll run on my GTX 970. Might take the gamble and refund if it runs like shit

Apparently the Oculus PC environment/drivers will apply their own supersampling so you don't want to double up with SteamVR (killing performance).

Sadly one of my Vive controllers broke a few weeks ago and I've been unable to repair it. I had bought this game back when it was announced too. I'll just have to wait a few extra weeks for my Index pre-order I guess.

I know there's a one-handed option, but I don't feel desperate enough to do my first playthrough like that. :P

10 minutes boys I love you all and hope you enjoy the game. Just got everything set up on my end with Index!

ALSO, if you're using a mat or something when doing room scale, I suggest using a beer cap or something, tape it to a sweet spot on your floor that way you can find it when you step on it in game.

Where can I see the peak of concurrent players? Kind of curious about that, but I'll be busy playing myself. Wanna check it out later.

Why do people always say it takes forever to unpack? This is pretty quick
