Most of the players don't have to stay, the only ones Rockstar has to retain are the ones who'll spend money.
For sure.
But if you see a lot of hardcore gamblers at the casino, they just look like zombies anyway. Very little life in their eyes. Not really enjoying the wider atmosphere. They are just there to pull that lever or hit for that next card.
They may as well be on their couch buying shark cards.
The outrage seemed to be completely consolidated to people who don't even play the game or have any interest in it. Why would it matter?
i'm curious to check it out, but you can just do all the stuff with in-game money, right? you don't have to spend real dollars

Don't worry. In two... let's make that ten years when GTA5's popularity has died down and we are on to the next fad/trend there will be plenty of people citing these angry posts as why the gaming industry changed for the better and accusing anyone of pointing this out as perpetuating "memes"
Partial joking aside, it is worth noting that this added in new content that sounds pretty fun and has the big news-friendly bit of allowing people to get that previously unobtainable car.

Hmm... I guess I was never under the illusion that lootboxes were anything other than gambling to begin with, so this doesn't really bother me anymore than those. Hell, this might even be better since it's more honest.

And this is why Rockstar is against Single Player DLC. Why release an episode that people will play for a couple weeks, when you can constantly bring people back over and over with GTAO updates? At this point, to say that people don't want online updates is just turning a blind eye at the market.

Yep. And it still had single-player in the base game.
GTA V has more offline content than a lot of other $60 games these days.
I have no interest in the online, but it's cool for people who do enjoy it. Nothing wrong with GTA serving multiple audiences.
You could say that, i've seen lots of people playing roleplay, but also lots of people playing casino.
I bought the game Yesterday for the first time and im expecting big numbers in viewers and money if i start streaming now, thats how big i saw the game's numbers.

I'm one of them. I haven't played all that much online though. I grabbed my free Twitch money and checked out all the new stuff. Also an excuse to re-download the game and finally hit all the jumps in sp.

I'm not calling anyone an "enemy", nor am I going to go all YongYea and curry outrage. But in the end, this shit is gross and troubling, and the fact that the market has repeatedly reinforced it as have people who keep defending and making excuses for it is what has accelerated the fall down this slippery slope we're on.
Yeah, it shows just how much of disconnect there is between the media and people playing these games.
