Grand Theft Auto Online's Diamond Casino and Resort has has been a huge success for Rockstar Games, as it has seen the biggest single day and week in player numbers since GTA Online's launch in 2013.

There you have it folks, this is why all the outrage in the world will mean shit.

I feel sad for the people who are addicted to not only gambling, but gambling within a videogame...

Maybe there's a lot more to it than I had realized.
But from what I remember from the update, other past updates seemed more interesting.

Not shocked. People were waiting day one when the online portion went live to go to the casino. Now let's see in a few weeks if those players stay.

For sure.

But if you see a lot of hardcore gamblers at the casino, they just look like zombies anyway. Very little life in their eyes. Not really enjoying the wider atmosphere. They are just there to pull that lever or hit for that next card.

They may as well be on their couch buying shark cards.

The outrage seemed to be completely consolidated to people who don't even play the game or have any interest in it. Why would it matter?

Don't worry. In two... let's make that ten years when GTA5's popularity has died down and we are on to the next fad/trend there will be plenty of people citing these angry posts as why the gaming industry changed for the better and accusing anyone of pointing this out as perpetuating "memes"

Partial joking aside, it is worth noting that this added in new content that sounds pretty fun and has the big news-friendly bit of allowing people to get that previously unobtainable car.

And this is why Rockstar is against Single Player DLC. Why release an episode that people will play for a couple weeks, when you can constantly bring people back over and over with GTAO updates? At this point, to say that people don't want online updates is just turning a blind eye at the market.

Yup, the market has spoken.

Yep. And it still had single-player in the base game.

GTA V has more offline content than a lot of other $60 games these days.

I have no interest in the online, but it's cool for people who do enjoy it. Nothing wrong with GTA serving multiple audiences.

Isn't that actually because of Pixel RolePlaying server going "viral" ? (I hate the term viral)
You could say that, i've seen lots of people playing roleplay, but also lots of people playing casino.
I bought the game Yesterday for the first time and im expecting big numbers in viewers and money if i start streaming now, thats how big i saw the game's numbers.

So much apologism in this thread :/

This is why ultimately trying to fight against exploitative monetization practices in gaming is a lost battle. Most people will bend over backwards to defend it, and the market will happily lap it up anyway.

I'm one of them. I haven't played all that much online though. I grabbed my free Twitch money and checked out all the new stuff. Also an excuse to re-download the game and finally hit all the jumps in sp.

Well, the issue is that some of you are too hung up about it and anyone who doesn't stand up with you is considered an enemy and are gonna kill me just because I don't care enough about the issues

I too like to laugh at companies exploiting legal loopholes and addicts.

Rockstar can fuck off with legal loopholes

As for addicts, I have too many issues for myself to care

I'm not calling anyone an "enemy", nor am I going to go all YongYea and curry outrage. But in the end, this shit is gross and troubling, and the fact that the market has repeatedly reinforced it as have people who keep defending and making excuses for it is what has accelerated the fall down this slippery slope we're on.
