Right from the moment I'm creating my character, I knew that this is going to be something special...

Yes, it's from a small studio with a limited budget, yes, there are a lot of assets reuse, and yes, the textures aren't actually high-res. But man, the art direction in GreedFall is truly sublime. No matter whether it's a cutscene or gameplay, I'm constantly in awe when playing this game. The lighting and color filters do this game wonders, it's like a piece of art. And I can't stop taking screenshots.

Some of these screenshots are taken with a tool developed by Jim2point0 so kudos to him. Special thanks to Queen Of Hunting for most of these too.

If you have some more screenshots to share, by all means do post away.

Great shots. Stop making me want this game more than I already do. There have been tons of games in the past few weeks I already want to buy. Money and time is finite!

Will definitely play this at some point down the line, as soon as I clear more of the backlog and it's on sale.

Yeah it is beautiful and actually runs really well! I'm pretty happy for spiders. I like alot of their games even though they are kind of rough and not for everyone but I feel they kind of nailed it with this one.

It looks absolutely gorgeous, I'm looking forward to buying it sometime and checking it out. Just too much to play right now.

I really want to play this game. It looks really good. For some reason I get motion sickness whenever I watch a gameplay video. I only have this problem with some VR games, this is actually the first time I'm having issues with camera shake in a normal video game.

haven't played it yet but constantly impressed with what i've seen (visually). if a rough budget/production analogue would be something like Elex then they really hit it out of the park, at passing glance i'd assume it was one of the newer Assassin's Creed games or something

Pretty impressed, they nailed the look they took inspiration from.
Still a couple of weeks to finish Control and then i'll jump in for sure.

Yep.. I love the artstyles in European RPGs (and some Japanese, like From Software games)

Agree OP. I was not prepared for how beautiful this game is, not how much I love it. I'm at 30 hours played over 4 days and I'm thinking about it when I'm not playing.
Borderlands 3 has taken my time the last 2 days but I've got to go back and finish it soon.

Yep, it's quite the gorgeous game. Not surprising, since the developers mentioned they were heavily inspired by the works of certain European Romantic painters like Friedrich.

I'm still not very far. Had to take a little detour over to Borderlands 3 but....

I knew right from the start I'd have to make a freecam tool for this game. Just wish I were better at taking screenshot to show it off. But there's plenty in here that do it justice.

This is what happens when you let the ToD go into the negatives (which I warned about in my guide). Looks neat... but it also looks wrong :P That wont ever happen during normal gameplay.

I can't believe OP would create such a thread and not think to mention any of the art/ artists that inspired the game's visual style. You're art philistines, the bunch of you.

It's very European. I don't know if there's a specific name for the art style.
Romanticism and Dutch Golden Age painting. Some that I would pick out from just looking at the game, David Caspar Friedrich, Rembrandt, Albert Bierstadt.

I started playing yesterday and have already put in 13 hours. I'm really loving it and a lot more than I expected. I couldn't help but take a few screenshots to send to my fiancee to show her.

Unfortunately, my 980ti gets a bit of an asskicking at 1440p. It's the first game I've had to turn the textures down from Ultra for. It instantly hits the memory limit, even at 1080p, and chugs like crazy. I eventually just set everything to high and it's been running buttery smooth ever since.

I actually had no idea at all about these. Wow, it's clear that they really took inspiration from them.

It's very European. I don't know if there's a specific name for the art style.

There is, it's called Baroque. The devs mention this style as the inspiration for their world and art style. You can see this mentioned in their Press Kit about their world design, here on the bottom right of the image.

They specifically mention both Rembrandt and Vermeer, which you can see why:

Rembrandt:

Vermeer:

I think they nailed it, while there are obvious limitations in some areas (especially interior re-use of assets) the overall world and look is quite good. Especially the lighting which reminds me of AC: Unity's amazing lighting.

The game is gorgeous. You can see the budget restrictions in areas, but man they nail the art and feel of the world. It makes me really want to see a big budget Spiders game, as this game makes it seem like they've really found their footing as a studio.

Yeah they really nailed the environments even though they're working with a budget. At times the game reminds me of Dragon age origins which I adore, but with different focus and bigger/more varied environments. I'm having a good time with it.

How big is the game world? These screenshots give the impression that it's a large open world, but I've read that's not the case.

No, it's not a large open world. In fact, everything is split into smaller zones and you move from one to the other, just like old school up to last Gen RPGs. The closest comparison is Dragon Age Origins and Inquisition. The maps in GreedFall are not as big as Inquisition, but there are a lot of more maps in GreedFall.
