My pick:

iu

Bit of a random one but this being the culmination of the game and I believe the only point in which the soundtrack has vocals made it pretty cool. Wasn't expecting it.

HEALTH nailed this song.

Everything from the beginning of phase two against Ludwig in Bloodborne onwards. Timestamped.

The New Donk celebration retro portion in Super Mario Odyssey.

Final Fantasy VII starting with the motorcycle chase, all the way until you drop down at the end of the highway and "Holding My Thoughts in My Heart" starts playing before finally leaving Midgar and venturing out into the open world.

Link pulling out the master sword in OoT and waking up in the spirit realm with the sages blew my mind, still the GOAT gaming moment for me. Everything is perfect

A recent good one is the Ghost of Yarikawa mission in Tsushima. The music, the new skill you get, presentation, and meaning of what's happening was very well done.

I was trying to find a good video before posting but none of them were in a high enough quality.

The final boss fight in The Last Story is my pick.

Ascending the tower in Nier Automata. That shit is like "this is something only games can do" porn.

There's some great ones mentioned already. Just a few of my picks...
  • Mario Odyssey - New Donk City and THAT Bowser section
  • NiGHTS - Final stage
  • Hades - Final battle (round 2)
  • Megaman 2 - Dr Wily stage
  • Control - Ashtray Maze
My number one would be the final boss fight for Fatal Fury Special. Getting to Krauser can be challenging especially when you're playing on an arcade but then when this kicks in? đź‘Ś

The opera fight in Nier Automata is immediately the one moment that jumps to mind from recent years. Just a phenomenal melding of gameplay, music, visual, and backstory.

Shout out to Control's Ashtray Maze and Max Payne 3's end sequence in the airport too.

I'll say Undertale's pacifist ending. It may sound cheesy, but that moment has so much raw emotion in it that I sometimes tear up just thinking back on it. It's just powerful in a way that very few games manage. Not bad for a weird indie game made mostly by two people.

Easy: Nier final fight:

As if the game was not fucking boss enough, the theme of the final boss kicks in and I can't handle it and I can't wait for the remake

Halo 4, last mission of the game, the run and gun game play leading up to the ending is accompanied by this fantastic music which builds up as you play through and really lends to the feeling that this is one final push against the odds

It's the airport shootout in Max Payne 3.
The Sniper chase in TLOU2 comes second.
To mot spoil to much, because the game is still rather fresh:

Pick your favorite Bayonetta boss fight or set piece.

Pick your favorite Metal Gear Rising boss battle.

Pick your favorite moment from Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Pick your favorite Actually I'm gonna pick the last one for you. It's in the last mission of Devil May Cry 5. The moment where you follow the prompt and use a certain mechanic against a certain character. Man, that fight was awesome.

No gameplay here but music and story - (FFVII spoilers - 16:35 if timestamp doesnt work)

Before clicking I knew it was going to be this moment. It's so perfectly and carefully timed with the music that it's (as far as I can remember, anyway) the only time in the entire game where the text is unskippable and plays automatically. :)

Choosing to or being forced to let go of the stairs in Shadow of the Colossus. Actually results in two different interpretations of the ending.

There's something really special about the start of the last battle in Persona 3.
Location, atmosphere, music, the final boss itself and the dialogue. Persona 4 and 5 never reached that "moment" imo. At least, not in the same way.

First thought off the top of my head: Nier Automata
ending E credits
I came to post this. That immediately popped in my head as an example of "style is substance is style" in video games. A couple of very simple gameplay elements, coupled with an amazing presentation, manage to encapsulate and carry the whole point of dozens of hours of story.
