I jumped back in after two hiatuses one at launch on PS4 and the other after the heists came out.

GTA Online sucked until I figured out how to make a solo public lobby on PS4. What's wrong with the trolls in this game? I'm lever 14. Why are teams of level 300+ players with oppressors and F1 cars trying to take my 60k counterfeit goods shipment?

It feels like a totally different game without griefers...

Is there a way to solo heists, races, or missions? Don't want to give up my lovely peaceful solo public lobby just to advance online. I'd much rather keep my peaceful sessions.

Yeah I don't play in public sessions anymore. Not even to goof off and mess with the griefers (and I have the toys to do so). I just don't have the time to water someone's shitty life residual to grow the plant that is their ego.

The over abundance of griefing in this game comes down to a few poor design decisions and unchecked loopholes that R* took too long to close. That and the fact that this is still the most bought and played game of all time next to Minecraft, despite all of the problems, leaves R* little incentive to do anything about it.

A lot of the newer content can be done in friends or crew sessions. As far as I know you can do almost all of the new casino heist preps solo. The doomsday content will require public sessions unless you fork over the cash to pay them through.

Contact missions, VIP work, and Terrorbyte client work can all be done in friends and crew only sessions. Rotating this can net you quite a bit in a grind session. It's just the high risk, high payout stuff like business sales that will require a public session. Solo public lobbies work for most of this however. I rotate out a single bar of product in my bunker for an easy 120ish. Always buy supplies. You will still profit and you won't have to waste time with multiple source missions.

Honestly, I think R* likes griefers. Note thta anytime they try to address griefing there is always some flaw that is pretty obvious to their solution. Like passive mode.. you can't do much in passive mode cause you can't even shoot NPCs (who can shoot you). So leaves out most of the game if you are in passive mode (and many modes you flat out can't even play in passive mode). And look at the kind of missions they give you to make money... they are designed to be easy for griefers and frustrating for you. I mean, there's no way R* thought driving slow UPS trucks would be a fun mission design. You drive slow UPS trucks to deliver motorcycle goods so that griefers can come after you and even if they fail once, you aren't going far so by the time they respawn they can easily catch up to you (I just use this mission cause it is so obvious). I mean one of hte biggest game design flaws (by design mind you) is that there is no punishment for failing to grief some one, you easily get plenty of chances to try, try again on the same person. And they encourage people to go mess up other people's missions. And to add insult to injury, it's obvious they know their playerbase, they don't even offer much in game incentive to do so. They know the griefers will do so just for the fun of it.

They like griefers cause they can give you these high paying missions to look good but make it frustrating to make money that way so that you just give up and pay money for shark cards. And when you complain that it is unfair, R* can pretend it isn't their fault, they can't control players. Hell, the only reason they have better anti griefing (and still not perfect but it at least makes it more tolerable) on Red Dead is they realized they had a different audience and they needed to encourage people to stay (I'm pretty sure RDR online didn't really take off so quickly when it came out).

I like some one's term for griefers in GTA online, shark card salesmen.

Totally. They encourage griefing. It might not have been the business plan in the beginning, but it's obvious that R* has found a golden goose in them and they have capitalized on that, helping to create one of the most toxic communities in the gaming industry.

There are some good people out there, but the bad far outweigh them. It's still a fun and unique experience, but do yourself a favor and avoid public sessions unless you know exactly what you're getting into: god mode glitches, k/d warriors, death threats, and mysterious internet connection issues if you decide to play their game and manage to bruise their fragile egos.

Yeah, GTA for me has the worst online community of any game I've ever played and I've played a lot of online games.

So basically I should stay in my solo public lobby? I thought it got better as you leveled up and earned more access to new abilities

Yeah the MTU trick is always good times when I want to sell something even though I still enjoy being in populated lobbies for screwing around.

Since they are giving a $1 million monthly bonus for logging in on PS4, and you can get another million for logging in once a week if you connect with Twitch Prime, what is worth a big investment for a solo player?

I played the game at launch quite quite a bit but stopped before heists came out. I have done some setup missions but never a full heist. I have at least two houses, some fast pink cars and fancy jets, and an oppressor. Currently I have a little over $6 million and I have no idea what to do with it. I have never invested in any bases, bunkers, yachts, or companies.

Depends what you're planning to do in the game, and how much time you want to invest in it. If you want to play a couple of hours a week and just try the fun stuff, there would be one set of advice. If you're planning to play a couple of hours a day and want to buy a huge collection of cars and vehicles, and experience everything that's in the game, there would be a very different set of advice.

My goals were pretty minimal. I played for a couple weeks after they gave the game away on EGS. Did some of the easier grinding missions, took all the free money they kept throwing at me. Bought my Deluxo. And... yeah, that's it. That's all I wanted. I guess I'm done now.

Extremely casual and relatively infrequent play is what I am planning.

I was thinking of getting one of the Zancudo hangers just for the novelty, but I wasn't sure if getting one of the bunkers would give me options for more activities.

I didn't want to make a new topic but is the PC version of GTA5 good? Or is it a bad port?
Runs well enough, though the online is chock full of cheaters / hackers so be weary of that or stick to sessions that are friends-only or crew-only if you want to check that stuff out unimpeded (aside from when you NEED to be in a public lobby, lol).

Otherwise, you should be good to go if you mess with the settings a bit (it also has a performance analysis you can run) and depending on your computer, you can get away with some nice mods, too.

Ok cool thank you.

Unfortunate about the cheaters but I'm only interested in the single player campaign so that won't affect me luckily.

Have a system with a 1080Ti & an i7-8700.

As long as it runs as good as the PS4/XBO versions, I'll be happy.

I have similar specs and get 60+ FPS at 1080p with max settings.

However, if you DO want to play online at any point - I play on PC as well as PS4 :)

This is the GTA Online thread, so there might be some SP-only players who only check the SP thread. If you have SP questions it's probably best to check in there.

It'll run at least twice as well as the PS4/Xbox versions

I switched from PS4 to PC (Steam) when the PC version of GTAV came out.

Now I wanted to switch back (temporarily) from PC to PS4 so I can take advantage of the free 1M giveaway, but I'm reading things about this being a one-time transfer?

Will it not be possible for me to switch platforms a second (and third) time?

Just a heads up to the 5 or 6 of you who were part of the PS Community. I deleted the group the other night. There hadn't been any activity in awhile, and it didn't look like ownership of the group could be handed off to another user. COVID-19 is a thing and family is home on indefinite furloughs. Space is tight and social gaming is pretty inconsiderate, so I allowed my + to expire. Maybe things will be different next year when 5 launches on PS5. Maybe I'll see you guys again then.

All good, thanks for setting it up in the first place! As you say it was no longer being used anyway. It'll be interesting to see what happens with PS5.

On PC with a friend, he has good internet but the game keeps randomly kicking him to a single player from a free roam lobby or to a random free roam lobby if we're doing heists.

Does anyone know what is causing it?

i've been getting back into this on ps4 and last night i was wound up.

i got into a mission with 3 others (making ends meat i think it's called) and we get to the warehouse but one person is running around outside, thinking they don't know what they are doing i try to direct them in but they ignore me and one other.

this person then drives off finds a can of fuel and pours it over my car and lights it which means i get it back free because of insurance but they get charged close to 16k for doing it,for 10 minutes they are running around firing at us and trying to run us over.

when they spoke on the mic i realised this pillock is anywhere between 8 and 12,i'd be very surprised if they were over that.needless to say i quit out of the mission.

i almost turned it off the console at that point but decided to try again (turned out it was the same mission) and ended up with 3 other good players and stayed for a few misiions with them.
