Yeah looks like I won't be getting a new GPU anytime soon. Good thing I already ordered an ASUS x570 and a CPU

Damn this sucks for people trying to build computers now. Glad I got impatient and built my rig in November. I had originally planned to do it this month, but was able to get a 3080 and pulled the trigger on everything else.

This makes me glad I was able to buy a PS5. Doesn't seem like I'll be able to build a new PC for a reasonable price this year.

I had already decided to wait for the 40 Series card due to insane scarcity, this just cements that plan. Hopefully it's is resolved quickly. We only recently got clear of cryprominers driving up prices.

This definitely makes me happier I was able to secure both consoles; even if this doesn't effect them directly, it could further increase demand.

First, I wanted to gloat over US finally getting high prices...

...but then I remembered my prices. In my country I can get exactly two cards right now:
MSI GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO 10G 1230€ [$1510]
Asus GeForce RTX 3080 TUF-RTX3080-O10G-GAMING 1335€ [$1640]

So nevermind, US is still way cheaper.
Yeah, this. Even these new MSRPs are quite a bit cheaper than what we have here, with 3080FE being US$900 from launch basically.

Right when I get my stimulus check, of course... It's not like there's going to be any stock for months to come, anyway.

Yesterday morning I finally broke down and bought a new CPU and mobo to finally upgrade my 2600k. Feeling pretty good about that now?

Not really. I know I'm fine with a 2080 right now, but what I meant was that I'll use this 2080 for how many years that I can until it can no longer handle new titles and then quit PC, I ain't upgrading or building a new PC with those prices. Perhaps I'll go console only, but this tariff might affect consoles too, which means I'm fucked.
lol your being ridiculous. I have a 2060 and im even fine for 3-4 years.. I wish i had a 2080... dude unless you have to play all your PC games at 100% max options your fine until well into this new gen. I play Cyberpunk 2077 at max settings ( with some tweaks) and get 60 locked 99% and the game looks amazing. Not even using RTing.

This sucks. There's no upgrade path now even the GTX 10 series also had their prices hiked. The GTX 1060 6gb is $500, I bought mine for $284 and a Asus z170a MOBO I bought for $140 is $190 used.

The 5700xt a $400 is as low as $650 with several marked at $1000

The only GPU that didn't get a significant impact is the RX 580 which is now priced at $330

I was planning to build a PC once things hopefully became readily available later this year, but this torpedoes that idea.

Might not effect larger companies like Dell or HP, but ibuypower and others that basically put together custom PC's for you - yeah, this will effect them.
It's certainly going to be interesting. I can see some of these builders try to shift to particular vendors (like EVGA which is manufactured mostly in Taiwan) to control tariff costs.

How did I get in on the $699 TUF 3080, seems like the unicorn of the bunch at this point. They must have made next to none of these.

I didn't want to really go console but the Xbox series X is starting to look like a good option combined with game pass.

On top of all the insanity to get nvidia gpu's and ryzen 5000 cpu's, this price hike is too much bs to build a pc. If I didn't get my hands on what I needed by now, I'd 100% just be trying to get a series x and waiting this all out.

Interesting EVGA hasnt raised prices.
I wonder if this has more to do with what was reported last year about very tight margins to the point of absurdity and 3rd Party Vendors wanting more flexibility in pricing.

Does EVGA get any sort of special leeway since they're American?

Planned on upgrading this year. I think I'll be sticking with my 980 for a while, which is fine as my PC is mostly for the smaller titles.

I bought an RX 580 just 3 months ago for like $175. This is crazy. I see it's mostly sold out even at almost double the price I paid.

Also managed to preorder an rtx3080 a few weeks ago, unsure if/when stock will come in but now I think I'll just sit on that one with this price increase

RX... 580 is $330? Is this real life?

I hope my existing order on a white ROG strix doesn't have its price revised before it ships because of this. I'm just waiting for it to ship at this point but that could be a month from now.

I've been saving for months for a 3080, guess I'll add another month or two to cover the difference. Even without the price hike, by the time I had the funds, there still probably wasn't gonna be any stock available to spend it on anyway.

Since EVGA manufactures in Taiwan and is therefore apparently exempt from these tariffs, will they continue to undercut the competition's prices, or eke out some more profit by hiking to match? EVGA being markedly cheaper than almost all other options in the U.S. would make demand for their cards even higher than it already is.

What, you don't think those will increase as well? Their components are still made in China and will be subject to the same tariffs.
There will be some increase, however, some components are made in Taiwan, so they wouldn't be part of this tariff increase. That said, vendors might take the opportunity to increase prices and margins anyways.

Was able to get a 3070 founders edition from Best Buy. Should be here Saturday. I financed it for 12 months so not a big deal.

Let's all remember this is China's fault, technically. They agreed to buy more american corvettes and and Harleys or whatever and then they welched cuz they don't really care about those rides. The only american vehicles they care about are Teslas and those are already produced locally in china now...

Glad I already got my 3080 for MSRP. This really sucks for people who are still trying to get one.
Glad I got my 3080 in October
Makes me feel getting a 3080 strix at MSRP is even more lucky now

Fuck yes. Thanks to this thread I finally got a card. 3090 FE.
Me too, but I'm not sure I need the damn thing. The only way I was going to get one was if I didn't have to do backflips to get it and Best Buy made the process much smoother than getting an XSX or PS5.

Edit: I was able to add another 3090 so it's a huge drop. I didn't get it, but I wanted to check to see if they still had some and they do.
