My top 5 so far:

1. Ghost of Tsushima
2. The Last of Us 2
3. Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive
4. Nioh 2
5. Animal Crossing
Honorable Mention: Huntdown

Nothing else managed to grab me this year, but also doesn't matter that much because I'm still playing/regularly revisiting all of the games mentioned above.

The Last of Us 2 is phenomenal. Ambitious, progressive, well-written and acted, tight mechanics and level design, technically stunning.

ND's best and the GotY so far.

Everything else on that list is a video game. But TLOU2 is an experience that I'll remember for the rest of my life. I think about it everyday since I finished it.

I really enjoyed The Last of Us Part II, but I think I'm appreciating Ghost of Tsushima more. Such a beautiful game, and the combat is a blast. Although I think some of the quest content could be improved to make for an overall better package. But it's still fun nevertheless.

The game hasn't been released but World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is probably going to be my GOTY

TLOU2 is up there in my top 5 of the generation. Though it's still a bit early to say it's my GOTY, I doubt anything will even come close in 2020. This has already been an exceptional year for gaming and there isn't a wrong answer here. Except for FFVIIR.

It's between Persona 5 Royal and FFVII Remake for me, I'm still not sure where I'll land I loved them both.

Right now, TLOU2, but I've only just started GoT.

Which, by the way, is a huge ommision from the poll, imo.

It warms my heart to see so much love for FFVIIR here, though. I haven't got it yet, but I was under the impression it had become one of those games that's everybody's darling at release but the whole of the Internet (Era especially at times) turns against within a month.

My list would be:

1. Xenoblade Chronicles: DE
2. Streets of Rage 4
3. Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Stacked year, but TLOU 2 is goty and gotg no contest, i really enjoyed Ori 2, FFVII R and Doom Eternal, Half Life: Alyx simply ruined VR for me, it's just that good in terms of design, production value and storytelling, I'm currently playing GOT but i can't see It dethroning the aforementioned games, Cyberpunk 2077 could be a worthy contender

Gotta go with Ori & The Will of the Wisps for me. Or Xenoblade Chronicles DE if that counts.

Granted, I havnt played most of the games in the poll.. Last of Us 2 will definately be up there among the best of the year after I play it.

Would of said Ori, but it ran like such a bag of shit that I can't; in good will, even consider it top 5 even though the game was great. Don't release broken games for god sake.

1. Last of us 2
2. Final fantasy 7 remake
3. Doom eternal
4. Resident evil 3 remake

Sure ghost of Tsushima would make that top 5 easy. I just can't afford it yet as I don't wanna break into my ps5 savings

kentucky route zero act V

i played the entirety of the game in january after deciding to wait for the whole package a couple years ago, and it was so so worth it. i guess this might be weighted towards the entire game rather than just the 2020 release, but the final act itself is still a really moving epilogue for both the characters and the game's themes about the futility of operating as a cog in a capitalist labor structure and the transitory nature of human decay, cruelty, and (most importantly) kindness. a very bleak, but still really beautiful game that manages a smidge of vague yet touching optimism.

ori and the will of the wisps
the last of us part II
animal crossing: new horizons

are also up there for me as well. haven't played much else.

Pretty sure Last of Us Part 2 will be the clear winner regardless of what comes out this year. It's an amazing game which deserves all the praise and awards.

But Animal Crossing will always be my GotY for 2020. Not sure if its because of the game's timing, since lockdown had just started in Scotland by the time it was released.

It helped to keep me entertained and distracted from all the madness going on at the time.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition takes second place for similar reasons. Plus it is an amazing RPG - one of the best I've ever played.

Half Life Alyx for me.

Weird how the highest rated game of this year until tlou2 came out keeps missing from these kinds of polls.

I've mostly been working on my backlog so I don't actually have played that many current games yet but for now my top 3 is:
#1) Final Fantasy VII Remake
Love the original game and this game did the original justice and then some. I was already more optimistic then most prerelease but the final game blew me away. Love how they enhanced the characters, world and gameplay. That combat system is very nice. Even encouraged me to do a second playthrough just because of the combat. To me this is the best remake ever made.
#2) Granblue Fantasy Versus
Another fantastic fighting game by Arc System Works. Absolutely gorgeous visually and the battle system is pretty grounded yet still allows for some clutch/hype moments. The characters also feel mostly distinct gameplay wise. I also like their personalities and it's cool to see them all interact in the intros.
#3) The Last of Us Part II
Definitely a worthy sequel to the first game. It was an emotional ride through and through even if it dragged in some parts. Really liked all the new characters, even moreso than the cast in the first one. And it's just crazy how detailed the environments in this game are. There were a lot of times where my brother and I (we played the whole thing together via shareplay, very nice feature btw) just marveled at the scenery.

Still have a lot of games to catch up on including Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore (which I'm playing atm), Ghost of Tsushima (which I'm also playing), Nioh 2, Persona 5 Royal, XenoblaDE and a few others. There really aren't enough hours in a day.

1. TLOU 2
2. Nioh 2
3. FFVII
4. Ori

Ghost has a good chance at being no.2 and even possibly no.1

HL Alyx is the bourgeois pick confirmed

I would have to go with TLOU2, a peerless conclusion to a generation its predecessor set the ground for. Will almost certainly be my GOTG as well.

With so much being delayed there aren't many options, what game do you think has it in the bag so far?

Half-Life Alyx is amazing. Especially during the first couple of nights when the whole AAA VR thing is something you're experiencing for the first time; mindblowing stuff. This game gave that Mario 64 feel to me, with endless possibilities and not knowing what to expect from all this freshness. The post credits caused my eyes to tear up. Beautiful.
Can't imagine how a flatscreen experience could surpass that feeling. I loved Doom Eternal, Streets of Rage 4, FF7R, TLOU2, C&C Remastered, Snowrunner, and Ghost, but Alyx is wayyyyy more impressive.

If Death Stranding ended up getting the most GOTYs last year, TLOU2 has this year's ones in the bag, easily.

Cyberpunk is the only possible contender I see but it's not even eligible for this year's The Game Awards for example

Ghost of Tsushima has completely blown me away. It's the perfect game to wash away the stink of TLOU2. GoT is GOTY so far.

Xenoblade Chronicles: DE is also very, very good.

2019 was amazing, 2020 has been pretty mediocre so far. Which is weird because I had expected TLOU2 to make this year better than the last. It turned out to be a disappointment. REmake 3 was meh, Ghost of Tsushima is a game I intend to buy later but it's not my type of game.

Hopefully Halo Infinite will deliver and end up being my GOTY. But right now? Possibly Ori then.

FF7R, ghost of tsushima are my front runners so far. Cyberpunk going to be s big tome contender if it releases. TLOU 2 went from greatness to a boring, never ending slog so that one is out of the running for me.

Right now it feels like Ghost of Tsushima, but if it isn't that, itll be FF7R.

Unless it's Cyberpunk, but I doubt it. I also rate TLOUp2 and Xenoblade, it's been a good year.
