This has been a thing for quite a while. Make up a lie about a political opponent, repeat it until you forget it was a lie in the first place, then get horribly owned with reality.

I saw a video on why she does this, she was talking about how she grew up watching baseless attacks on Obama, Pelosi and Clinton and how they never addressed these attacks and thats why they took hold. So she confronts them head on, and in many cases out right owns the person who insults her.
The worst (best?) part is that "Biden is senile" is something they tried in 2012 too. Everyone on the right thought their wunderkind boy genius Paul Ryan was going to smoke stupid old Joe in the debate.
They just never fucking learn.
One of the defining differences between old guard Democrats and the new class in my view is that increasing diversity on the left, and increasing passes at white supremacy on the right leave little room for the good ol' days where Joe Biden could sit down with segregationists and hash out infrastructure legislation over beers. AOC has never known a world where Republicans, and their base aren't frothing at the mouth to destroy people like her - not even "Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez," but a working stiff woman of color from the Bronx. Republicans hate her on sight, and now they have to work with her. What incentive does she have to get cozy with them?
Sucks that bipartisanship is over, but the reality is it only worked so far as Congress was 99% privileged white men for whom race, gender, sexuality, etc. issues of equality were simply things you could agree to disagree on. It was never real.

I died. I love AOC and when she runs for president, I will actively campaign for her like I have never done before. We need so many more like her in office.
We could bring back bipartisanship if we brought back pork barrel spending. It's a lot easier to get someone across the aisle on board with your legislation if they get to bring a bridge or steel plant to their district in return.

If she has any national ambitions—and she hasn't served one full two-year term as a House rep yet, so everyone slow the fuck down anyway—it's going to be thwarted by a combination of:
—Being so demonized by the right that's it's bled into the center already, and
—Being thrown under the bus by her farthest left flank because she's actually pretty savvy and careful with what she says
and when she chooses to speak out or play ball
—Sexism and racism that is informing the above two
I like her a lot and think she shows some incredible political instincts, which means I am equally sure she is going to disappoint the horseshoe left eventually.
Add on the fact that she's a strong Woman of Color. Not only is she a strong woman, which the GOP fears, but a WoC... that has them up at night in cold sweats.
I don't think we're ever going to get to that point, honestly. Race is too intrinsically tied to our politics here - the Republican Party is able to function as it does because 40-45% of the country will always vote based on some combination of bigotry and shitty abortion politics. The rest takes care of itself.
The question shouldn't be "when can we make AOC president," it should be "how do we elect 250 more AOCs to the House."
I sometimes don't like correcting people's spelling as a gotcha but when you're calling someone else dumb, it is extremely important to spell everything correctly.

AOC shouldn't be an anomaly within the party, she should be the standard for people we elect. I'm not impressed by AOC because most of the women in my life are as smart as her. I consider it an indictment on this crappy country and how ass backwards it is that there's only one of her in Congress. We shouldn't be excited she got a slam on some QAnon nut job, we should be horrified the nut job has a chance to work on the same level as AOC in the first place.

People championing AOC has the heroine that's going to save this country I think really miss things. She should be the norm for the party. Until she is, I just fail to see why Democratic leadership would ever move that far left. The voting block doesn't support it.
I can easily see her becoming a NY Senator in a few years if she chooses that route but you're right, I can't see her becoming President (even though I would very much like that). The hate machine fix is already in on her, just like it was on Hilary in the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s.
Hell, if anything, Republicans losing their minds over her just made her more well-known on a national scale.

We should do a comeback challenge. Anyone who can write a good comeback to this gets some sort of digital badge.
If she doesn't have any actual asperations to run for president, she could instead hint that she is considering running every few years. Keep the right-media hate target on her while the other actual candidates go unscathed.

Yeah, it's my big wishlist item that no one talks about (I have others but those get mentions). There's zero incentive to break from your party because you're barred from helping your constituents. How dumb is that? Elected representatives of a district or state can't push for things to help the people in that district or state?

She's amazing, but clearly she's too left to pop like that on the national stage. Moderates are a big chunk of the national party. As voters.
Of course a big difference is she's able, and eager, to fight back against their attacks. Clinton by the nature of the time was never allowed to fight back despite being a smart and witty woman. She was demonized to the point that both sides hated her, not just Republicans.
Those twitter replies are so frustrating. Half the people there are just ignoring the self-own and continuing to dunk on AOC. Obviously its not a big deal in this scenario, but this mentality applies across the board to everything. It doesn't matter if you're on the "wrong" side if you pretend like you aren't.
She's vocal, she's far left, she's a woman, she's a minority, she's young and she resonates with basically anyone under the age of 40.
The GOP just ends up creating a gigantic Striesand effect when they constantly go after AOC. All it does is just make her well known at large and often for being incredibly progressive and for taking no shit. It might play well to their base but it just clues everyone else in on the tough as nails politician from the BX.
Yes. This is the real solution to our problems. How do we energize our local communities to nominate politicians who actually give a fuck about us and will create and vote for policies that help people?

7. Most dangerous... she actually knows social media and is young. Typically it is a 50+ year old trying to look cool. She doesn't need to try for the young vote, exact opposite, she is empowering it and showing they can do it too. Not just vote... but run for office, campaign, and win. A real youth turn out would be the end for the GOP. In the US, it feels like there is a barrier for entry to politics and it discourages a lot of young people. She is a real fuck you to the GOP.
