When they talked how the humanity as a whole was considered a Titan I smile thinking in certain famous anime.
There's the catch for Godzilla vs Kong. Kong is mistaken for the Beast Titan that's been causing havoc across the world. Godzilla and his crew meet up with Kong and his crew on Skull Island, which is a trap set by Tywin Lannister and cronies. It's discovered he is using Ghidorah's genes to create giant human titans and Godzilla and Kong eventually team up to fight the Beast Titan, the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan.

Godzilla killing Ghidorah was awful, he just cumberstomped that asshole from nowhere, it felt unearned and unsatisfying, Big G was a chump through the whole movie and then gets a power up and that's it.
Best action scene in this movie was Rhodan chasing after the dumb spaceship.

On screen it's like half the film. Godzilla 2014 literally has 10 minutes of Godzilla. KOTM is many multiples of that. Even when the humans are getting the focus the monsters are visibly fighting in the background. The last fight itself is longer than your assessment and there are several other fights besides that in the movie.
I don't know what movie you watched but that doesn't happen at all, most of the times you just get the cast talking in a room, the movie almost feels it doesn't care for the monsters and the last fight is just like the rest showing brief glimpses, even if marginally longer than the rest of the movie, and then cutting to the human cast. I've already said it, yeah there are a bunch of fights but they just don't show it, there was a fun monster movie here but we got bootleg Star Trek with characters having awful lines of dialogue in a room of a spaceship.

I don't count scenes where humans are doing shit and monsters are fighting in the background as kaiju action. If I go to see the Avengers I want to see the Avengers fight, not some shield agents or bystanders running around and blurry Thor in the background.

From nowhere? He got powered by a nuke and then Mothra dying, and there were several times he had Ghidorah on the ropes before that. He was beating Ghidorah's ass in the second fight scene too before the humans intervened and hit him with the oxygen destroyer.

Exatcly and hell, most times the monster weren't even in the background and the times they were they barely appeared it was done really bad.

They did a awful job of showing it though, he killing Ghidorah should have at least be more visceral than walking in his direction and the dragon disintegrating. This reminded when Ghidorah's head showed up and my gf went "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ISN'T OVER YET" but thankfully it was.

Your criticisms are all super off point. You clearly disagree and I'm really only replying so that other people know that you're posting inaccurate criticisms. This movie is such a lavish send up to the monsters that it's across the board the aspect that people most liked.

I get that the human stuff wasn't great, but it's functionally neccessary for there to be any sense of scale. The ability to have humans and monsters on screen at the same time at proper scale is the big advantage that these movies can leverage over the old movies. There are multiple very good shots and set pieces leveraging this in the film. At no point is any significant action 'blue balled' like godzilla's first appearence in 2014.

I guess I went into this movie with a completely different mindset than most people. Like, laughing at it out loud with your friends? There's nothing in the movie bad enough to make one want to do that unless they went into it ready to rip it apart.

It's just Independence Day with great monster fights and it ruled.

'14 was way better than this turd. That one had a very satisfying buildup to the awesome atomic breath climax, but anything bearing any semblance to that buildup was gone here. King Ghidorah went out like a total chump out of nowhere. Oooh, but what about sequel tease?!?! Just stop.

The sense of scale is also something that felt better expressed in 2014. The designs for the classic Godzilla monsters were more striking here, but the scale of destruction was way better done with the MUTOs and G himself last time. The visual effects were undeniably amazing this time, I just wish there were utilized a little more effectively.

Also, what in the world was up with the constant one liners? I thought that would've been a weird quirk of the trailer, but nope, it's here in full force. I love me some cheese in my movies (Shazam! pulled it off spectacularly this year so far, and hell, look at Skull Island in this own franchise for a better take), but there was a constant tonal disconnect with the darker, more like '14 beats.

Hype for Godzilla vs. Kong hangs even lower than G's resting place.

This movie is Pacific Rim tier awesome, really don't get the hate.

The script was pretty decent, it had a lot of tricky plot points to try to explain and I thought it did a commendable job of balancing the various threads and culminating it all into one epic final battle in a way that made some degree of sense. The only thing I didn't really understand is why everybody else cared so much about the one kid (other than the parents) considering the world was on fire, did they not have their own families to protect?

Audio was so good too, not even sure I'll bother picking this up on home release as there is no way I can do that audio design justice on my crappy home system.

I can't believe they trashed Fenway Park, those cunts. This is just like when they trashed The Garden.

Also, screw that Budweiser product placement.

Also totally understand the real reason why the mom bounced in the end. Wasn't for redemption. Fuck having to deal with the aftermath, trials, etc. and took the easy way out haha.
Yeah, there would probably have been a 100% chance she'd have gotten the death penalty anyways at whatever international war crime court she'd have been tried at.

She invents a device that pacifies or drives away monsters, but instead uses it to unleash them and kill off billions of people in order to reverse global warming.

I lost it when Eleven escapes the top secret hideout (with no guards in sight) and emerges into a forest, and then shows up in Fenway park looking like she had a stroll down the street.

Honorable mentions to crossing the Gulf of Mexico in two minutes and fixing circuitry in the pouring rain.

I like how she got into Fenway Park without an issue, then Ice Cube Jr. mentions the word home, so they travel two blocks from Fenway there.

I also can't believe there wasn't a Green Monster joke. Pathetic.

just got back. Thought the movie was awesome and felt just like a Godzilla film. I didn't even think the acting was that bad and the plot isn't even in the top 10 worst Godzilla movie plots so I'm not sure why everyone is expecting. I hope we get way more of these films.

There's a scene where all the Titans are named on a world map. Quetzalcoatl is in northern South America, Brazil I think.

Indeed there was. Most had generic names like "Behemoth" and one that looked like the name for devil (similar to Bahamut, like Bethmat or something?) and I think Colossus too.

I liked the movie. I just didnt like the human story. I am not against human stories in a monster movie. Actually, I think it is important to have. The problem is, shit writers keeping on trying to come up with deep and emotional stories for the human characters, but the writters just suck at it.

As a Mexican I laughed loudly at that, more because when they said our natives "called it... Rodan!" I said no, we would have called it Quetzalcoatl that's a 100% mexican name! It didn't bother anyone, it was just funny

Yep, when the fight in the ocean started, my first thought was "this is right up Godzilla's element" inside the water.

Godzilla wouldn't have won without the nuclear steroids it received. I did like seeing that its body is fully capable of venting excess nuclear energy, even weaponizing it. Enjoyable film. If I were them I would go all in on the Monster Zero alien origin having an alien fleet try to conquer earth releasing more foreign monsters on earth and only our native monsters can save the planet. I will also add that Rodan is a yellowbellied punk.

He would have won if it wasn't the missile...

I pretty much loved the film.

There were so many nods to the Japanese Godzilla films. I loved during this films; Rodan chasing the massive stealth bomber and how it effortlessly spun to get rid of the flies, Godzilla's home and previous kingdom, mothra, the talk about anicent myths and how they all link, Ghidorah. This was a well written piece of fiction which won't win any awards but get the plot from A to B.

The cinematography was on point as well, how people were affected with the monster battling and certain moments with the titans.

oh my good shit.

Not looking forward to Kong vs Godzilla, Godzilla doesn't even compare with Kong.

I loved it as well!!! Best current Godzilla movie yet!!! All hail the king.

The end credits newspaper scenes, one of the headlines said "What's a king to a God." My guess that was in reference to Kong, it's going to be interesting seeing those two titans go head to head.

I remember it more from the song "No Church in the Wild";

"Human beings in a mob"
"What's a mob to a king?"
"What's a king to a god?"
"What's a god to a non-believer who don't believe in anything?"

The true protectors of this world. Fenway being destroyed got a big applause in my showing. Now if only they would have shown TD Garden being destroyed too :).

One thing I have really appreciated in the MonsterVerse so far is that they have avoided the destruction of New York which we've seen more than once in these disaster flicks. It's nice to see other cities being destroyed for a change.

Yo this isn't nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be I think. That one critic in that one review that compared it fucking Transformers The Last Knight was out of his fucking mind.

The Good

- Some of the humans were likable enough, mainly the dad, Tywin, Ken Watanabe and the Mothra twin

- The Rodan awakening and chase

- The Ghidorah awakening and hurricanes it creates looked amazing

- "Category 6 hurricane" made me and my friend crack up

- Mothra hatching from her cocoon gave me chills. It was beautiful

- The motherfucking music

- Atlantis origin

- "Monster Zero" and Ghidorah alien origin

- Godzilla pulling up on Ghidorah with the military on his side was badass

- Burning Godzilla

The Bad

- Most of the humans fucking sucked and I didn't care about them. I didn't care if Eleven died and was annoyed when they were looking for her. Mom was the worst

- Mom's dumb motivation. She was basically a terrorist

- They cut away from the final fight too much

-Mothra vs. Rodan is mostly in the background

- They kill Mothra! Not even an egg in the credits scene or something 😡

- Everything after the oxygen destroyer until before the final battle was pretty damn boring

Overall I think the movie was super solid and I'm looking forward to Kong vs. Godzilla.

One of my biggest problems with the film was that guy from Silicon Valley, who they'd clearly put in there to deliver the gags, but nothing was funny. Really wish it hewed more closely to the tone of '14.

I had a great time with my Grandpa. The human elements were better than the showa era movies at least. Also sooooo many setups and Easter eggs like, I can't believe they did Burning Godzilla! Also that egg could actually be a Batra setup! And an oxygen destroyer to setup destroyah! And raw materials teasing biollante!

Story was stupid.

Way more human characters than necessary.

For some reason they are still using the cutaway from the monster shit from the first movie. Wasted a lot of the effects budget on aircraft for some reason, could've spent it on longer Kaiju fighting scenes.

Kaiju shit was cool though.

Just got back, King Kong, bruh, don't even try it. The human characters kept me involved which surprised me, but the mom character was bad. She deserved a worse death. Watanabe's death scene was pretty well done.

In conclusion Rodan is a tool, long live the king.

Me when I had to watch Eleven's family drama with Farmiga and bootleg Ron Livingston vs. Me when Godzilla and the monsters were on the screen

I did like the Monarch stuff with Ken, Whitford and Co but man, they kept pushing the family drama forward. I expect Kong vs. Godzilla in the background of a guy having to save his girlfriend.

The biggest mistake of the Monsterverse that there are no long scenes of the monsters just decimating a city. I mean just look at my boy Mechagodzilla absolutely destroying Tokyo and that was one of the films with the lowest budget.

I like this movie, but this is the second movie in a row that doesn't have scenes like this stop cutting and give me some destruction porn that last longer than 2 seconds.

I'm guessing I can post free of spoilers here?

So based on the end clippings it seems like Titans are heading to Skull Island, I'm assuming they are going there to bow down to Kong. The cave paintings show that a full grown kong and godzilla are fairly similar in size and are kind of at each others necks, I guess competing "Alpha" titans.
It will be a weird sell though because both movies assert that both Kong and Godzilla want to help humans.
Well, Kong does at least, maybe Godzilla only wants to kill other Apex predators? Or at least be in charge...

I wonder if Kong will get any monsters of note on his team.

I'm more curious about what-seems-to-be Atlantis and how it came to be so far under the ocean. Maybe the original conflict with Ghidorah shifted the landmass or something **shrugs** and the survivors spread across the planet leading to all the stories of Godzilla across different cultures.

I mean, Washington DC was already flooded out, so I can assume that there was another similar tempt from Ghidorah in the past. Who knows.
