Barely!! It went from one type of action game to another type of action game. It isn't a puzzle game! It's not a strategy game, or a story-driven game that isn't centered around hacking away at enemies.
Lol fair enoughOP needs to learn how to use multiquote instead of being a spammer lol.
At the risk of boiling it down to a very reductionist statement, GoW's gone from being a character action game to an action-RPG

Because while the 2013 game greatly expanded upon the previous games, it didn't completely do away with what the series' makeup was, which is what God of War does.
Yeah, that is true. Very similar levels of reimagining between those two, now that you mention it.Nah, RE4 felt just as big a departure. The comparison is apt though.

Resident Evil 4 was in another dimension altogether and God of War taking clues about this game tells you everything you need to know.
Does it really though? Still a combat drive action adventure game with an angry lead who uses canned violent instant kill animations, pushes stuff around, breaks chests with his hand, and fights gods and monsters in over the top scripted cinematic set pieces. I would say most of the DNA is intact. Like Persona 3, Resident Evil 4, Tomb Raider, Metroid Prime, Wolfenstein TNO, and Breath of the Wild it reinvents the wheel while retaining its own DNA. It's very good but hardly the first time a developer tried it with a successful franchise.Because while the 2013 game greatly expanded upon the previous games, it didn't completely do away with what the series' makeup was, which is what God of War does.
They turned GoW into a dadpain Sony AAA game, they did the exact opposite of take a risk.
Yes, without delving into spoiler territory, the villains haven't changed much at all. It's all still very stereotypicalThe game is more a change of charaxter for Kratos than a re-invention of the franchise itsef
It took a lot from Naughty Dog games. It just combined those things with things from the God of War franchise. Which makes this the best game of its kind that Sony has ever released.Oh boy, a lot of salt here, my favorite is "they turned it into another Sony game" shit, anyone who says that haven't played the game.
What did it take from Naughty Dog exactly? Seriously, just because the game is a little focused on story now it doesn't mean it's a ND game.It took a lot from Naughty Dog games. Kind of, lol. Instead of making a behind the shoulder character narrative action game.
There are a ton of context sensitive actions. Seperate from the QTEs that God of War has always had. Like Uncharted and TLOU, the game regularly slows down (like really slows down) in order to tell its story or to deliver an emotional scene. What did it take from Naughty Dog exactly? Yeah when you take literally the only Western attempt at the Character Action genre (even if it was shallow compared to its Japanese contemporaries) and then abandon that to make it a by the numbers Western AAA Game, people will indeed be a little miffed.Oh boy, a lot of salt here, my favorite is "they turned it into another Sony game" shit, anyone who says that haven't played the game.
Before you die on the sword for this Cory Balrog is on record multiple times citing TLOU as an influence for the game. It wears that influence on it's sleeve just like BOTW wears Skyrim and Far Cry on it's sleeve and AC:O wears Witcher 3 on it's sleeve. Obvious influences aren't a bad thing if anything else it's incredibly easy to see what kinda art influenced later creators. What did it take from Naughty Dog exactly? Nice go on more lmao. Please play the game first. They turned GoW into a dadpain Sony AAA game, they did the exact opposite of take a risk.

I'm only 6-7 hours in but I think the combat is deeper than the previous GoW games.I'd actually say that it's really not that huge a departure in the character action and depth department.
Read his previous comment "dadpain Sony AAA" dude is nothing but a troll
It's not a bad thing. I don't know how you can even ask a question like that though. The intro to the game clearly wears its inspiration on its sleeveBefore you die on the sword for this Cory Balrog is on record multiple times citing TLOU as an influence for the game. How did ND invent these things? There are a ton of context sensitive actions. Seperate from the QTEs that God of War has always had. Like Uncharted and TLOU, the game regularly slows down (like really slows down) in order to tell its story or to deliver an emotional scene.
None of this is bad in my opinion. I think it's done rather well and, when combined with the traditional GoW stuff (huge, setpiece heavy bosses/combo heavy combat/light puzzles) it all adds up to a great game.
I'd like to know some of these by the number games like GoW, it's still an action game as the older titles, again you haven't played the game.Yeah when you take literally the only Western attempt at the Character Action genre (even if it was shallow compared to its Japanese contemporaries) and then abandon that to make it a by the numbers Western AAA Game, people will indeed be a little miffed.
I still don't see what did they take from ND games, because surely they didn't invent story telling, did they? I'm guessing people talking about boosting the kid up to some places and the likes? That's very reductionist of what else the game is doing. Before you die on the sword for this Cory Balrog is on record multiple times citing TLOU as an influence for the game.
