Wish it did not setup stuff for another season, since I feel it's getting cancelled. The fact that it took them about a month last year to decide to renew is a pretty bad sign I think. Hopefuly it returns, since I loved this season. Such a great cast.

So I think I may have a differing opinion on the show than most. I have only gotten to ep 6 so far. But what happened to all the wrestling and wrestling-themed storylines?? Its almost like the wrestling became just background noise for the characters.

I know it is first and foremost a character-driven show, but I liked when their main conflicts centralized around their wrestling show. This season seems more about their personal lives, love interests and pursuits outside of GLOW.

In previous seasons, the main conflict was "is the show going to last?", "how do I create my own wrestling character?", "how do I even get in the ring and wrestle properly?"

I get that all of the character's conflicts are rooted within their job of being wrestlers, but it just feels like they havent touched on it enough up to this point.

Dont get me wrong, where they are taking it is fine and GLOW has never been ALL about the wrestling. But 6 episodes in, I feel like the GLOW show within the show has been barely shown or talked about up to this point.

I think it's because in Vegas the are doing the exact show every night. When it changed is when we saw more wrestling.

Good point, but I think giving us some of that upfront rather than very brief montages that last like 10 seconds would have helped bring us back to the central point of the show, which is the wrestling.

It just seems like for the first 5 episodes, we dont really have a central plot that all the characters are working towards, instead it is everyone's own personal story that they are progressing and rarely bringing it back to the GLOW show.

I mean, in the first episode, it starts off by teasing that they group might be cursed with the Challenger explosion. After that episode, the challenger and the curse is never even mentioned again. I know there are time jumps this season without explanation, but the first episode is usually used to set up what we are in for, and I dont think we really understand the goal of our characters as a group until the end of episode 5.

So far, episode 6 was my favorite. At first, when that episode started, I thought it was going to be the downfall. It seemed like 100% filler and the show up to that point wasnt really grabbing me the way S1 and S2 did.

However, they actually fucking nailed episode 6 and tackled some really heavy social topics in a very elegant way. Props to the writers for turning what looked like filler into one of the best episodes, not only this season, but the entire series.

I am going to finish the show tonight so I will have more full thoughts later on, but at this point in the show, I remain disappointed that they seem to have gotten away from the wrestling aspect that I loved so much.

Wow I think this actually might have been the best season thus far.

Loved the focus on the characters emotional backstories. Makes the lack of wrestling worth it. Hope it doesn't get cancelled, the show is fantastic.

I'm hoping to start it tonight but I'm also dreading it - I agree with others here in that it will probably be canceled.

Half the Netflix shows I enjoy watching always seem to be canned.

I was worried that
Sam was going to die/get killed off. Glad that didn't happen. Sad seeing him basically hide a heart attack, trying not to ruin his daughter's deal/moment of glory.
Tobby Huss was a great addition,
knew he'd have a bigger part after seeing him on the airplane. I REALLY hope they don't play out his character by making him mad at Debbie, imo it'd be much more interesting if he actually respects what she did and instead of just breaking up with her/going away he understands how awesome she is and how helpful she can be if he actually treats her as a partner and not just a showpiece to show off at dinners with
I couldn't help thinking about Halt and Catch Fire when he was on screen.

You're not getting a Season 4+ unless you're mega mainstream popular. So many good shows get axed after 3 seasons.

5 episodes in so far and this season is easily the worst for me. It feels so aimless and all about cramming in as much ass and tits as possible. While the show always has been about the characters, the overall wrestling theme glued it together. This seasons doesn't seem to have an overall theme and thus feels aimless and disjointed. Still a lot of great acting to be found though.

Gotta echo the aimless and unfocused sentiments. Still pretty great with fantastic performances and a couple episodes are probably the best in the series, but it is really all over the place just to come to the conclusion that everybody wants out of Vegas. Also a worrying place to leave the story as it would be a tragedy if it got canned. Give me one more season, Netflix!

20 minutes into the future.
Absolutely needs a season where the show breaks big with the girls getting on the morning talk shows etc before getting abruptly cancelled. That's where the 4th season should go IMO, with a possible 5th just following the aftermath as the girls move on and I'd call it quits there.

Episode 9 Spoilers

Hot damn, that bedroom scene. I don't think I've ever been as excited to see a guy kiss another guy. I did a fist pump in my living room. That scene was well done.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. I think that was a really clever way for them to develop what has been there for a loooong time while still having Bash retreat back into the closet so he can hopefully come out "proper" next season. Fantastic scene all around, too.

Ruth, the character, is consistently the worst part of this show. Every time it was a Ruth-centric scene in this season, we were bored out of our minds.

Wow this is so weird to read this and other opinions on the season here.
To me the show WAS aimless and not really well written before, and just transformed completely into something way more mature and beautiful.
Characters feel way more interesting and developed for me in that season.

Also the show is clearly about the music hall background and the minorities finding a way in it. It's pretty clear and it's never been so focused actually lol.
Go figure..

Watched 4 episodes so far... So like did the showrunners just get super horny this season? It's practically soft core porn at this point

I really hope season 4 happens. Please lol.

This was an odd year for GLOW, although it was also designed that way which is definitely apparent from a certain development in the finale. I'm fine with experimenting, though it wasn't as consistent.

It was more uneven, but clearly ambitious and experimental, which neatly dovetails with the lives of the characters.

Please let there be a fourth season.

I don't think the previous seasons were aimless, but I do agree that reactions here and elsewhere are polar opposites to my own. I loved how much they doubled down on characters and elevating the multicultural focus in myriad ways, including gender, race, sexuality, etc.

I think the main hang-up is people expecting a show about wrestling, when this is a show that is using a moment of wrestling history to analyze these larger concerns, which as someone not into the world of wrestling is more interesting to me. Especially as it becomes a reflection on that time period as much as our own. It's like a low-key Mad Men; sure, the advertising part of that show was interesting but it wasn't the main focus.

Fair enough yeah, i guess i didn't mind about that cause well, it wasn't much about wrestling anymore in second season already. It was always a backdrop anyway.

I feel you. This is exactly what I thought during the entire season. The character stuff is great. But the main thing it was about, the wrestling, is almost gone.

I think they could have gone way more into detail with the whole "we have to do the same show every single day" thing. That was just a side note. But I think for me personally in their situation it would have been the most frustrating.

I don't really understand how you can have this view. A lot of the show still tackled themes relating to their wrestling career

Sheila coming out of her shell, pregnancy vs keeping a career in something as physical as wrestling going, pushing your body beyond its limits, racist portrayals in entertainment, some of the bigotry gay people have to suffer from when it comes to these things (I.e. "we don't feel totally comfortable wrestling with lesbians because they like having their face down our crotch") & whatnot

There was maybe less wrestling but it was still the backbone of much of the show. Ruth x Sam was perhaps the thing that was the most removed from the wrestling stuff this season.

Not really sure how I feel about this season, some parts I really liked, while others I didn't and a lot that just went nowhere. Kinda feels like a half season, hopefully we get the rest.

This honestly could have had nothing to do with wrestling. You could have made these developments work with almost any other job or activity. But the focus especially on wrestling just wasn't there anymore.

Just like with wrestling, they focused on the good stuff (the drama) and leaving the actual matches to a minimum.
There's still wrestling in it but if you're running the same show everyday, I don't need to see it every episode.

The best wrestling is storytelling told in the matches. Season 1 and 2 where NJPW and AEW whereas season three feels like WWE: lots of talk and tits but no cohesion...

Edit: before people go nuts this was meant in jest mostly. I do believe the first seasons where better, but still a lot of great acting.

Was looking forward to this but i don't feel the show in the first three or four episodes. What's with all the unnecessary nudity and sex? I mean, i'm from the Netherlands so a pair of tits or a cock won't shock me but i couldn't find a real reason for it other than showing tits, cock en sex just because... It felt kinda embarrassing. And some choices were... i don't know, weird and cringy..
Season two was very good. Great character development and personal stories, funny, touching.
There were some good parts thus far in season 3 but overall it just feels off to me.

Does it get better? Otherwise i'll leave it as it is.

I thought I was imagining the increased unnecessary nudity. It doesn't really bother me per se, but in a show that seems to celebrate strong women, it doesn't seem to fit.

I actually like this season than 2.
Because the show finally moved away from Debbie and Ruth rivalry.
Also side characters had interesting side stories.
Justine and Sam arc was satisfying which sets up next season....

Maybe next season Reggie needs a side story than just a hiker.

the time skip really made the season feel like i watched 1 full season and half way through another one. Definitely agree with the disjointed feeling of the season. still enjoyed it, but probably me least liked season.

I didn't miss the wrestling per se, but I did miss seeing them all in character a bit this season. I thought some of the funniest moments of the show were Betty Gilpin's insane facial expressions as Liberty Belle, for example, and I wish the season had had a touch more of that. But I did enjoy it. Hope it doesn't get cancelled.

Not sure why you are laughing your ass off, but okay.
I didn't just talk about a penis though. There is lots of stuff that makes me think.. "okay, but why?" Again, i'm not against nudity. There isn't a Dutch movie that doesn't contain nudity as far as i know. We're used to that. But it was al so... random and silly. Perfectly fine penis and amazing boobs, but why?

Does the show get better? That's the question i'm interested in most. Right now it's not that great if i'm honest. My girlfriend thinks the same.

I don't mind that they dialed the wrestling back to focus on characters. In fact, I think it makes sense. What didn't make sense was failing to show how the live show evolved after the camping episode, i.e.
how many of the wrestlers permanently changed characters (we know Arthie did from the Christmas special), what character does Sheila play now, did Tamme become a manager heel in light of her injury?

Those were clearly set up as important character developments and then just left hanging.
