The sound that the name of 'dubstep' was reused for started in part with this track, which was one of the first breakstep tracks, basically like DnB slowed down to the BPM of breaks:

I hadn't heard this particular track before, but Discogs tells me this came out in 03, which would put it well after 138 Trek and Oris Jay / Darqwan's earlier stuff, right? I'm not too familiar with exactly how breaks and garage crossed over though.

Yeah, Zinc especially was well ahead of the times - Drive By came out of new-school breaks much later on.

There is no justice to have a thread about crunchy bass until Justice is shared

A classic bassy bop with more crunch than a box of Cracker Jack:

And you're like "no EDM" but lol this is boss and you all know it so turn up the bass:

Great stuff, I've wanted to dive into both Bootsy Collins and Parliament-Funkadelic eventually.

Kalawanji slaps.

A classic bassy bop with more crunch than a box of Cracker Jack:

That Olive is a very nostalgic groove.

All outstanding, but I especially love the 80s hip hop vibes of the Dark Sektor track.

Dubstep like J:Kenzo and brostep such as Excision are two different things, much like jungle and drum 'n bass.

Crazy to think that this masterpiece is 25 years old.

For the OP, I always liked this slower cut from Mr Oizo.

Mr. Oizo-Monday Massacre

Hello this is a sweet track from the Flat Beat EP. This video is at 720p and has WAY better quality than the other monday massacre.

Here's a few more nods to some artist already posted and some, not.

Peak dubstep for me was Zeds Dead's Knights in White Satin remix. It was the song that made me think dubstep had a future.

Not only is the bass off the charts in this song, but it is a fantastic music video! It's a gem that most people have never heard. Turn it up *loud*

A couple of my favourite PJ Harvey track have thumping bass:

Working for the man
I particularly like playing this really loud in my car where I feel the whole thing vibrating. And I love how at times the bass is so overwhelming you can hardly hear her lyrics.

DJ Krush is a god, and I had no idea this song was featured on the "Blade" OST!

My go-to Krush grooves, "Sanity Rain/Requiem" is an absolute unit:

(that 2:50 drop on "Trihedron" :o)

Killer pick, agree about the music video!

Hmm, I like this cover better than I'd expected I would. Note that the animation is actually from Blockhead's "The Music Scene" video, which itself has a pretty dope beat:

I got the itch out of nowhere yesterday to put subs back in my car so perfect thread. I think it is the weather, or maybe a little cabin fever from Covid.

You posted one of the raunchiest music videos without also posting Call on Me by Eric Prydz.
