President Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani is denying a new report that he asked the president's reelection campaign for $20,000 per day for his legal services as the campaign seeks to contest the result of the election.

Multiple people briefed on the situation told The New York Times that Giuliani made such a request. The newspaper reported that some Trump allies have raised concerns that the former New York City mayor is pushing for legal challenges in several states as a way to make more money.

"I never asked for $20,000," he said. "The arrangement is, we'll work it out at the end."

Sources told the Times that the former New York City mayor has convinced Trump to believe several conspiracy theories regarding voting machine irregularities.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill. The campaign did not respond to requests to comment to the Times.

Trump announced over the weekend that Giuliani would lead his legal effort in the wake of the election.

I can't imagine even Giuliani would be stupid enough not to arrange payment upfront. This is Trump we're talking about.

Maybe Giuliani should just ask people to send him money without the farce?

20k? That's pratically a pro bono for the case

The request stirred opposition from some of Mr. Trump's aides and advisers, who appear to have ruled out paying that much, and it is unclear how much Mr. Giuliani will ultimately be compensated.

Since Mr. Giuliani took over management of the legal effort, Mr. Trump has suffered a series of defeats in court and lawyers handling some of the remaining cases have dropped out.

A $20,000-a-day rate would have made Mr. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who has been Mr. Trump's personal lawyer for several years, among the most highly compensated attorneys anywhere

Giuliani Is Said to Seek $20,000 a Day Payment for Trump Legal Work (Published 2020)

Last week, the president put the former New York mayor in charge of the court challenges to his loss in the election. Since then they have suffered nothing but setbacks.

Rudi hasn't taken money from Trump for everything so far, suggesting that he's profiting in other ways.

Besides that, AFAIK 20k/day isn't THAT outrageous for a lawyer? Standard rate seems to be 1000$ per hour so if he were to bill eight hours per day he's at only 2.5x the average.

Yeah that's not better, Rudy.
