Alright ERA, I'm finding myself in a dilemma here. Able too grab a PS VR for 199, also its the Iron man bundle that pretty much comes with everything. Wanted to see the people that actually own one and your guys thoughts on purchasing one in 2020, considering it came out 4 years ago. And what games do I need to play, I've always been interested but didn't wanna spend the 349.. so advice please?

There's some great games on it and I think it's worth it at that price.

I'd highly recommend playing Iron Man, Astrobot Rescue Mission, Moss and Blood & Truth.

There are plenty of others but they're probably the standout titles.

If it's your first VR experience, it's a decent one for a good price. Just be prepared for last gen image quality, controls, and of course games.

I think the Quest 2 is a better entry, even at the $100 premium. Better everything. Oh and you can always tether it to a decent computer and play VR games from there.

It's a little outdated compared to something like the Oculus Quest 2, but the games library is unbeatable. Astro Bot alone is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

I think it's worth it at $199.

A lot less comfortable than PSVR, and a much much smaller library of big games (and games in general, really). But otherwise the technology is obviously much more advanced in the Quest 2, with much better controllers and tracking and resolution and no screen-door effect.

I was trying to get one for Christmas and they are completely out of stock everywhere in the UK. At least, all the decently priced ones were. Already got a lot of games which are compatible with it so I want to give it a go. Didn't know whether it was large demand or Sony stopping production but I'm still keeping an eye out.

edit: yeah back in stock at a lot of places now but price is still a little higher than I'd like for just the base one.

Do it OP !
There is a lot of great titles on PSVR and at this price with moves and Iron Man is a steal.
I finished Paper Beast on it last week and it's one of my favorite 2020 titles.
If this is your first VR platform you are in for a treat believe me !
Some of my favorites : Astro, RE7, SuperHot VR, Pistol Whip, Moss, Until Dawn Rush of Blood ( great for first VR experience ), Wipeout, Rez and Blood and Truth.
I'm now going to start Iron Man and after that going to Walking Dead Saint & Sinners.
Also get Dreams !

Worth it for that price with the move controllers.
  • Astro Bot
  • Tetris Effect
  • Thumper
  • Blood & Truth
  • Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
  • Skyrim VR
  • Pistol Whip
  • Until You Fall
These are all fantastic games.

Firewall: Zero Hour and Farpoint are also great, but you need the Guncontroller to fully enjoy them. I also don't know how big the player base for Firewall is nowadays (probably very small).

At that price, it is a steal. 4 years old and its still a solid headset, specially at that price.
Quest is the best of both worlds but you have to have a pretty capable PC or deep pockets for Oculus Store's games (which rarely go on sale).

Recommended Exclusives:
PlayStation VR Worlds (A must have for first time VR users like family members)
Astro Bot Rescue Mission
Blood and Truth
RE7 (VR Mode)
Deracine
Iron Man VR
Until Dawn Rush of Blood (It was a PS+ game)
Ace Combat 7 (VR Mode)
Wipeout Omega (VR Mode)
Statik

Great Non-Exclusive VR Games:
Batman VR
Rez Infinite
Moss
Tetris Effect
Thumper
Star Wars Squadrons
Superhot VR
Trover Saves the Universe (only if you are a Rick and Morty fan)
Ghost Giant
I Expect you to die
Battlezone
Red Matter
No Man Sky (VR Mode)
Vader Immortal
Walking Dead Saints
Skyrim VR
Beat Saber

If you can get the Aim Controller:
Farpoint
Doom VFR
Arizona Sunshine
Firewall Zero Hour

I recommend getting Gamefly and renting out a couple of these games if the money is tight. PSVR PSN sales are pretty slim as well.

Honestly I'd pay the extra and go for the Quest 2, if you've got a VR capable PC you also get the added bonus of PCVR games.

I'm in the same boat as OP (paid full price, but, eh). Still waiting on Sony to send me my adapter for PS5 so I haven't had a chance to play yet, but I've been loading up with most of the games others here are recommending.

I'm not a Walking Dead fan, but I've heard Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a decent VR exclusive FPS/RPG, if you're looking for something like that OP.

I think if you're going in cold with no other VR headsets in your house then there's a ton of stuff to play and you can't really grumble for that price.

And you're getting the Moves too with that pack and they're a big additional expense normally.

I say go for it?

PSVR was the highlight of last gen for me and playing Star Wars: Squadrons in PSVR with a HOTAS was my gaming highlight of 2020.

There are so many good games for PSVR, and even old games like Skyrim feel new in VR.

PSVR is also really easy to set up compared to other PC VR setups that don't use inside out tracking.

So yeah, I think it's definitely worth it.

This honestly the setup for quest 2 is so easy put it on draw a box and go not mention you don't have to worry about wires. I got one the other day. Although Astrobot is one of the best games out on VR.

Please try the PSVR first before buying.
I couldn't tolerate the screen res because it makes images and text blur.

I have to echo this sentiment as well.

Even if it's your first time with VR, I feel like IQ and performance have come such a long way in both VR and non-VR titles that the fidelity is really hard to look past. They also never solved the perpetual world wobble that a lot of people to this day still have issues with.

At only $99 more, the Quest 2 is absolutely worth it and so, so much better than PSVR. Screen/resolution, lenses, proper 6DOF tracking on both the headset and controllers, 72-90hz compared to the PSVR's 60 reprojected to 120, better controllers with finger sensors. All of that alone is a chasm of difference, and that's not even touching on the most important Quest feature: wireless.

If you're getting a PSVR and you still have a base PS4 OP, then the resolution might be unsatisfactory for you. However, if you have a Pro or a PS5, then I say go for it.

on the one hand,.. astro bot, moss, and porn make it well worth the $200. there are a bunch of other thing worth playing too and when VR is good it is really good.

on the other hand,.. psvr 2 is probably releasing this year. there are a lot of ways in which psvr 2 will be able to improve the experience.

I went in knowing this is first gen hardware and going to be a first gen experience. it is so new and innovative and exciting. it is also so cumbersome and rough and frustrating. if you go in eyes wide open you won't be disappointed but don't expect a refined experience yet.

I'm of two minds about it. Quest 2 is clearly a big step up in terms of technological progress in VR. However, its game library PALES in comparison to PSVR.

PSVR has some really incredible standouts, but the only exclusive that isn't terribly held back by the hardware is Astrobot. Astrobot is absolutely incredible and a top 3 VR game for me, but it definitely feels like an exception.

Games like RE7, Firewall, and Blood & Truth are all really hamstrung by the fidelity of the hardware. I'm a huge fan of Tetris Effect, and I still play it daily even now, but I haven't played it in VR in over two years because it looks and performs so poorly. These are all games that should easily be standouts of the medium, but even something as crushingly average as Vader Immortal on a Quest is more fun to be in because the hardware is so good. Just walking around in Oculus's First Contact demo is more impactful than 99% of the PSVR games I've played, again, purely because of the hardware.

Get a quest. It's not worth it.

PSVR was a day late and a dollar short. It's infrastructure isn't setup at all for the future, the hardware is well behind. It's a very basic VR experience I cannot recommend while there's a significantly better option in the price range.

absolutely not a good idea, even for $199. the tech is really outdated and it's not a good introduction to VR. i'd wait for a revision or get another VR system

If you include the Quest only library, which is newer and still growing, that's somewhat true, but if you include all the PC games you can play with Link or VD, it crushes PSVR

The atrocious image quality brings down many games. I'm not a huge graphics geek, but so many games are just a muddy pixel-y mess. Titles that attempt to push the envelope in terms of scope tend to feature deeply compromised models and textures (Star Wars Squadrons, Iron Man VR). I think it is best for more abstract graphics like those of Rez Infinite, Polybius, and Tetris Effect. Resident Evil 7 can be played elsewhere, and Astro-Bot is the only exclusive where you're really missing out.

I would say buy a Quest 2 now, and start saving your money for a good VR-PC to go along with it.

Rikster $200 isn't bad honestly. If PSVR is going to be your first VR experience then at least you'll have a lot of options to choose from content-wise at a low price.

I don't know if you've still got your gaming PC, but if you do, I think you should also consider grabbing a Quest. You'll be able to use Quest and PCVR content, and the hardware is a definite step up on its own. You can even use Quest to play PCVR content wirelessly, which I've switched over to completely since first trying it with my own Quest. You should also consider waiting for PSVR 2, unless you're okay with limited future support on PSVR at $200. PSVR 2 is surely going to have much better screen tech and controller/headset tracking, and it'll probably work wirelessly too.

It's definitely worth it. Just be aware the VR pass through doesn't support 2.1 HDMI features. But that might not be applicable anyways. But it's why I still have my PS4 PRO hooked up. It's my VR box now.

If you have a PS4 pro or PS5, base PS4 might be too rough for VR.

-You can wait until the new headset comes out. But I don't think we'll get one in 2021?? So it'll be a while.

-Or if $200 isn't steep you can jump in and enjoy Astro Bot, RE7, Rez Infinite, Wipeout, Firewall, Moss. It's got some reallly cool software.

Believe me, buy it. If you are just a little curious about it like i was.... I spend the last 2 year to play 75% of PSVR games, i bought every physical US games, a lot of asia english game, etc.... Now i take a little break with the ps5. It was one of the most amazing awakening experience i could imagine....

You think we would have heard something by now. It's really disappointing how these companies have dropped the ball on VR. They haven't worked together at all to create an environment and the big players outside Facebook have kind of taken a passive approach.
Some are just taking a little longer than others.
Recent new Pimax headset

HTC's next headset said to take VR industry 'to another level' in 2021.

Then there is this... Decagear headset

And HP Reverb G2 just released...

VR is still going pretty strong. Sony just needs to hurry it up a bit.

I don't mean hardware specifically, I have an index, Pimax with all the backer rewards including the audio strap, eye tracking etc. Oculus quest and PSVR. I'm talking about their dropping the ball on infrastructure and software. Sony certainly dropped the ball on hardware from the standpoint of forwards compatibility. They're now caught in a weird place where they simply aren't prepared and are caught in a potentially unenviable position of having to completely retire their previous infrastructure and bring a new significant cost to users.

Anyway, what I mean is the support for VR is dissapointing and the biggest players or potential players are largely silent or apathetic.

MO Of the exclusives I've played

Astrobot is very good (though not quite the second coming some people believe)

iron man starts out really fun but gets pretty Samey

Resi 7 was too much for me in VR. Stressful

overall I'm glad I have one and I think there's enough there to justify picking one up cheap - you will have fun. But the hardware particularly the moves are now so far behind the competition it's starting to get in the way of those experiences for me. Makes you wish Sony would just put out a new headset that could do their existing games more justice, and provide a longer term platform with ps5
