They truly are. 9 times outta 10 when I ask friends if they'd rather pay one flat rate (approx. the standard $40~$60 price of a video game for example) and unlock all the characters/content over time versus it being a free-to-play with the gacha casino....they pick the gacha casino. We've conditioned gamers to want gacha games.

Glad you got a Lost Prayer on your 3rd pity at least! But yeah, it really sucks in general. See ya in 3 to 4 months when I get to pity again on standard banner and probably just get another Qiqi rip.

Yep. It's taken me literal months to save up 180 wishes for Raiden, for one character! Sure I could throw hundreds of dollars into Mihoyo's hands instead, but that's the equivalent of throwing my money into the trash so no thank you.

I just hate how gacha mechanics force players to throw away their money to the developer in order to take their chances at the digital casino. It's predatory and gross. I haven't whaled or anything, but I've seen it too often especially with genshin and especially with younger players who are more susceptible to FOMO and such.
Hahah, thanks. I gave it to Ningguang so she can melt everything for me. I've already got a C4 Qiqi, so I have accepted that any non-guarantee 5* will probably be the little ice gremlin (I like her as a character, but she's almost worthless as a party member for me).

I mean, that's because that second scenario has never happened and never will happen. Has there ever been a game or piece of media period where you spend a flat price one time and receive new content for years, for free, with no way to spend more money? The only thing I can think of is No Man's Sky, and the only reason it is the way it is is because it was a disaster at launch.

Yay I pulled Jean from the standard banner from an acquaint fate I got from leveling up Sayu.

Been trying to get her since Genshin came out but finally she's here after so long.

I apologize if this has been answered or pointed to elsewhere, but is there some kind of beginners guide or a tutorial to the numerous systems that someone could point me to? I've decided to get into the game after dropping it after a few hours back when it launched, but I have no idea what some of the terms I've been reading in this thread mean. Things like wish's or resin, R0 or R4, I'm just massively overwhelmed and I don't really know what direction I need to be going here.

Well....Animal Crossing New Horizons has been getting free updates for over a year now! Obviously not comparable to the type of game Genshin is but it is a piece of media that's sorta done that.

I get what you mean though! I probably worded that a bit poorly. I was more thinking in the case of Genshin Impact, when each significant new region releases, we would pay a flat "DLC Expansion price" to unlock all new characters/weapons. The way the game works would significantly change of course....because everything wouldn't be built around the gacha (the rng/resin/weapon banner/etc) and sucking as much money as they can outta whales.

This is a complete pipe dream and my short method of doing it probably has flaws or whatever. I know Mihoyo and other developers like them would rather make millions off the gacha model.

It just saddens me when gamers I know prefer gacha to any other less insidious alternative if that makes sense.

Everyone, the most important tier list, the special dishes you would eat tier list
Qiqi may be the worst 5 star but to me she has the best food

It's like you said, we got conditioned. We just accept it. I myself have burnt money on Genshin Impact. I hate myself for it, I hate that I'm ok with gambling and I hate feeling preyed on. This isn't my first gacha rodeo and I'm ashamed I'm playing yet another one. But seriously, there's A LOT I like about Genshin Impact that I'm dealing with it. Even if they already got me to spend way more money than I should.

Huh, one of the many channels I follow for game critiques just put out one for Genshin. Starting it right now, but his past work is good enough to recommend it beforehand:

From the comments, it seems like he also goes in-depth on the gacha culture overall, curious to see how that particular segment turned out. Also, he recently made a very good video on Chinese Indie scene, so if you're bored at work, or like to listen while playing, have at it.

This is an excellent video. Bonus points for slandering Paimon and praising Taggles and Benny.

The precedent i'd point to here is that apparently DLC wasn't a great driver of revenue. :(

I literally just finished the video, didn't know about those parts until very recently. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anywhoo, now that I finished it, I definitely recommend giving it a watch. It's a nice dissertation of Genshin and Gacha culture from somebody who's new to it, but was convinced it's pure evil due to second hand 'experience'.

I never put fragiles into artifact domains
At least weapon/talent domains and boss drops have reasonably consistent results
I use my daily resin on artifacts, if it sucks I wait until the next day

He ends exactly where Genshin is for me (again): a game with nothing to work towards after a point.

I really don't know what MHY is doing but Inazuma just pushed the problem off by about two-three weeks but we're back to this empty, meandering feeling of just doing dailies. Much as they stretch Inazuma out with piecemeal releases, there's still no real sense of purpose of characters at this point and exploration doesn't really solve it.

I don't have any kind of beginner's guide on hand myself -- maybe someone else might know of one to send your way?
But I can at least clear up the terms you mentioned!

Wish = this has two meanings -- within the game, wishes = banners (aka Character Event Wish), but the community commonly uses 'wish' to mean a pull/summon on the gacha banner. E.g., you use primogems or fates to wish on the character banner.
Resin = basically a stamina system; you build up resin as time passes and use it to obtain the goodies from ley lines, domains, and boss fights. It's the number at the top right corner of your map that lists x/160 -- x being how much resin you currently have. The stored limit is 160, but I believe you can get up to 180 resin every 24 hours. Fragile Resin is an item that you can use to gain 60 extra resin. Condensed Resin is an item you can craft to store 40 resin for later use on ley lines and domains (excludes bosses), and is separate from the 160 amount.
R0/R4 = weapon refinement level (r = refinement; 4 = level 4). If you have duplicates of a weapon, you can use the duplicates to refine it and boost its abilities. In a similar vein, constellations or cons (C0, C4, etc) refer to character duplicates.

And to start, I'd honestly just focus on the story & exploration and let yourself slowly feel out the various systems as you go. Just make sure to only spend your primogems on the limited time character banners (NOT the standard banner) and don't bother grinding artifacts until you reach AR45. It's also recommended you focus on building up one primary DPS & team to start -- don't spread your resources out too much early on or you may find yourself under leveled later. There isn't really anything else you can do wrong, though, so don't worry about things too much. It's definitely super overwhelming at first, but as you ease into it more and more things will slowly start to make more sense, promise.

If there are any other stuff you're confused about, though, definitely don't hesitate to ask!

CN charts have Yoimiya performing worse than Kazuha.

Even though she's subpar…no. more. pyro. dps.

I've been running the new artifact dungeon for almost a month now, since the first day I could reach it.... and have yet to see a 5* crit dmg or crit rate for the Severed Fate helm. Artifact Farming is the WORST.

But then

Yeah the Japan charts are fucking wildcard lmao

The power of her voice actor I guess?

All of those banners did poorly in JP compared to good banners, the point is the same. She's also no longer charting high even in JP so that number won't move much more, so well below Ayaka and other much better/bigger banners.

More over there's a lot of weight lifted by the seiyuu here which other units won't have.

(Her numbers in CN are quite poor and her Day 2-3 was a sliding drop, she'll likely do worse than any banner before her even Klee rerun.)

Tenha does a lot of meme stuff, but I found this one quite interesting. If there was ever a set that increased attack speed I would definitely be interested in it for my Keqing considering how fast her attack speed is already.

I accepted that the "content" of the game is pulling new characters a while ago. I've had more fun after I made my peace with it. Now I just play to build 2 team of heroes that I actually find fun, rather than what is considered meta. Gives me something to work towards each day.

? yes it is. She's doing better than the absolute worst banners in JP, and doing poorly in CN and NA. So while she's not scrapping the bottom in every market, she's still not doing "strong" anywhere and in JP she has the most advantage due to her seiyuu.

A character who actually popped off in JP was Childe. This is just less bad compared to other markets.

The fact that anything has to be compared to Keqing's banner says all it needs to, tbh.

---

Also like it or not, CN is the big money for Genshin. Genshin isn't holding a candle to big leagues in JP.

Im just here for the story and to pull characters I want. I'm also still not done exploring Inazuma but once I am and it is just dailies again I'll just be taking a break and maybe not even use resin once I get the artifacts I want for Baal. For me though Inazuma has been fantastic and the best content they have ever released and it's only 3/6 islands so far. The game has promise for the future but they desperately need to make us works towards something in the endgame. Add more floors to the abyss every few months so we can see how we fair with multiple compositions.

I didn't say she was doing amazing, but it's still a notable difference between the 2 markets
It will forever blow my mind that Kazuha did so bad

Well isn't even that big of a difference? I mean she's not gonna be the worst new character recently, but she's not that far off.

We'll see how she falls by the end though!

----

Kazuha is... weird. He pulled through in CN on WoM over his run but it seems other markets were way more inelastic. Or we're just seeing other markets hitting lower ceilings on new units without some sort of special draw like seiyuu (Yoimiya) or Archon-specialness (Baal, soon).

I'm glad I pulled for Yoimiya, then. It looks like she probably won't be getting a re-run banner anytime soon, not unless they add a rotating banner that they cycle through characters on.

I booted up Honkai impact 3rd for the first time in a long time and remembered that they don't have any bullshit 50/50, just get your S-rank Valkyrie within a 100 rolls. Must be nice.

So, I was stalling for a few days to ascend my AR (Adventure Rank) from 25, because I didn't want to make things much harder (raise my world level). Now that I experienced the creatures of Liyue and see they are easy, I thought "Why not raise the world level?" and so I did the quest. What I wasn't expecting is that I also had enough exp to go to AR (Adventure Rank) 31. So, my world level raised by 2 and not 1. Sigh... The bosses are going to rip me apart, aren't they?

Edit: I just checked. They went from 40 to 50. I should have waited more.

I know I'm going to pump some money into the game for Raiden, and I'm very tempted to pre-load my in-game wallet during Yoimiya's banner, just for a boost to her.

Even if I won't roll during her banner any more, I wanna support an excellent and fun character and personality however I can... just, you know, without owning her :p

Every gacha I've ever played was about building characters and no other point. Finish one and move on to the next new hotness and repeat for years on end.

Hmm I disagree. E7 has lots of content. Abyss. Dagger Sicar. Regular story updates. Halls. Etc etc. You build characters to either do the PvE content or in my case, to compete in the PvP content.

There's not another pillar somewhere is there?
Maybe try aiming the last one higher or lower

That was all the pillars, tried adjusting the last ones up and down and that didn't do it.

Logged out and logged back in and one of the pillars orientation was different. So while visually it looked right, internally it was bugged. Put it back to what I had in the video and it worked.

Ooph, that was such a time waster 😅🤦‍♂️

Yeah some of the Inazuma puzzles are a bit buggy, so if something's not working, you might need to log out and back in.

Why go for elemental reactions in the new Tower Defense game, when you can stack Pyro skills along with the item that buffs nearby constructions, and just have everything die the moment it appears on the field.

I played E7 for a long time. Outside of PVP everything is about getting gear to build up the characters to beat whatever current meta broken character until the next broken meta character comes along.
