Paimon is enjoyable when she gets to bounce off characters and not just repeating everything for the player.

It's the reason I always write "MAKE THE HERO TALK" in all my pools. This shit is infuriating, especially when they both have VAs. They're not mutes, just make them answer sometimes, give these VAs some line ffs.

Ironically Traveler has a ton of voiced dialogue. It's just...all hidden in their Story menu.

Well I failed it twice and it wasn't on purpose lol... first time I raced straight at him not realizing what I was supposed to be doing, second time I stayed too far away and he disappeared.

I dunno if you got it by now (i'ma guess you did, since it's been a while, but, for posterity), but Paimon will let you know when you're too far and just stick to behind walls and/or above him (like when he talks to the shopkeeper in the stall for example) and you should get through it!

I haven't even finished the intro yet because of real life, so that first impression is lasting way longer than it should (had to stop a bit after the terrible stealth section). Hopefully I'll be able to play more today and get to the good part.

There should be a mandate about big updates only being allowed to release on fridays. Although I guess they do it like this to avoid server load too.

I see why people were mentioning Traveler's rudeness... certainly gave off a lot of "I didn't come here to make friends ok" energy for a second there.

Poor Thoma. He's cool, I hope he ends up on a good banner. I'm ready to finally have a pyro character on the team after ditching Amber like 8 months ago.

Yes, 3rd time was the charm. It wasn't that much of a struggle in the end, I just wasn't ready for it. :p

Paimon is great. The MCs not speaking at all is not.

edit2: is it me or are they really pushing the romantic undertones with this one

It's not just you and it's annoying as hell. At least make hanging with bland waifu optional instead of so in your face. Genshin has a big female and gay fanbase too so it's double annoying when its sooo one-sided in its pandering.

Yeah I like Paimon as well. What I don't like is when the writer's make Paimon do the talking for the MC. Just give them/us voicelines already.

Paimon's existence isn't the problem, it's the fact she speaks for the player. Having the player mouthpiece be that dumb is fine for the occasional joke but it's also kind of the only joke.

Fair enough point. Paimon is comedy while the traveler is on a serious journey so having her constantly represent the traveler does make it seem less serious.

True, it's not the Lyre Church mission.

Please don't put stealth missions into games that don't have stealth mechanics.

Does anyone find it odd that, ever since that mission, the church passage has remained ajar? You'd think they'd close it back up and secure it after the last breach!

Definitely enjoying the everloving hell out of this update. New area is always nice, but it's such a good area and such a departure from adding Dragonspine or the Archipelago (RIP) with the new puzzle types and new mechanics and enemies.

right now I'm grinding for ayaka resources

I'm spoiled since usually when I get a new character I have most of my resources ready since I collect everything I see

having to actually find new stuff is a hassle
I'm actually kind of enjoying it. It sucks I can't really make use of her at the moment because she's stuck on a lower level, but it took a little oomph out of getting Ganyu and Eula when I was able to just blast them up to 90 within an hour. I'll be farming the mechanics boss for her mats every chance I get, sure, but there's a finite amount of Sakura Blooms I can claim per day to keep me from getting her to 90 instantly and I'm fine with it.

At this point Traveler/Paimon is the core relationship of the whole game. The sibling is absent, the teams we make are non-canon. The game is about Traveler and Paimon roaming the world. The writers have learned to lean into that--because banter with a familiar character is almost always going to be more interesting than chatting with a stranger--but I feel like at some level the game refuses to acknowledge the results of their own premise.

As for Inazuma, I'm digging it! I've done a first pass on the first island, zoomed over to tap the statue of the seven on the second, and plan to explore a bit tonight. It's gorgeous, and I keep crossing my fingers that we'll get some of these items for our teapots--PLEASE let me put that gorgeous lavender hydrangea ALL OVER my teapots, I NEED that hydrangea--& so far the region seems to be focus on bigger quest chains rather than one-offs? It's satisfying to follow a bunch of quests that tell a bigger story and build out the world.

The only bummer is how hard it is to gather materials for Ayaka. Every time I see a samurai I have to run at it. The handguards are SCARCE. And I've done laps on that first island hunting for sakura blooms. Reminds me of the early days when I had a route to farm hilichurl arrows because I was always running out.

I am going to farm that new Artifact dungeon for a week, hopefully cobble decent 4-piece sets, and be done with it. It is a scam, but it is the only way to unlock new "gear" in this patch. Both sets look decent, there is bound to be something that utilizes them better than any other artifact combo.

Too long.

It's not worth navigating your way to 6 different endings for 3 seperate characters for a single Debate Club. Maybe in a pre-Inazuma world.

Appreciate the intel.

My girlfriend has resisted playing on her phone not long after launch because she hates the touch controls. She's watching me play on PS5 and wants to try on her PS4. She's not a technophile, and can't even tell the difference between standard 30fps and 60fps with Raytracing.

Will she be okay with the PS4 version, all things considered? She's been playing My Time at Portia on her PS4 alongside me playing Genshin, and that runs and looks pretty bad in a t so I feel like she won't really be put off.

I know its been only 2 days but whats the consensus on Ayaka gameplaywise so far?

Early impressions seems to be:
- Not as powerful as Ganyu, looks more like Hu Tao/Xiao tier. Strong but balance character.
- Her burst deals great raw damage. The issue with it, it has smaller AoE than initially thought. Her morgana comp performs weaker than Ganyu's morgana due to lack of AoE potential. However, it's still big enough to hit multiple enemies with correct positioning/enough CC from other units (Venti, Kazuha) so still fine. Basically Ganyu prefers mobs, Ayaka prefers single target or few (2-3) enemies.
- Her charged attacks are good (like Keqing), definitely want to include it on her rotation. AFAIK, people are still testing whether to go with N4C x2 or N2C x3 for ideal attack string.
- Her normal and charged do not shared ICD. Meaning, with cyro infusion on her dash, she can apply cyro element very fast. Probably the best at shreding Abyss Herald shield at the moment (as solo character, not counting combination).
- Have good synergy with Venti. Both of charged attacks and Burst can hit enemies inside of Venti's burst.
- Utilize XQ greatly for permafreeze team as expected.
- Her own melt damage isn't that great due to the nature of her smaller multiple hits. But can act as enabler for Pyro units (like enable Xiangling subDPS). However, dunno if it compete with established vape/melt team like Hu Tao Vape, Childe-Xiangling, National team, etc. For now, freeze seems to be her thing, but who knows.
- Energy requirement isn't as strict as Eula. Her 80 cost Q isn't that hard to work around.

I still don't understand why they made Ganyu so ridiculously overpowered. Was it just over correction from the pre buff Zhong Li backlash?

The framerate will chug, but some people are not super sensitive to this. The 2nd worst thing is that the loading times are horrendous. Other than this it is playable.

Thanks for the information! Glad to see that she's so balanced. Hopefully, they've hit their stride in character balancing.

lol she will be fine. I started playing Genshin recently on base PS4; the game looks pretty and runs well. It takes some seconds to load the texture after log in and sometimes after teleporting, but that's it. No freeze or noticeable slow down so far. I am also not good at telling the difference between 30 and 60fps unless it is a fast paced action game, racing or FPS, so it doesn't bother me at all with Genshin.

Ok, the Chisato escort quest was great and things instantly got better after that. I really stopped playing at the worst point possible in my last session.

Load times are yucky but I've played on launch PS4 since Genshin released and I've been fine.

Add me to the list of people who enjoyed Ayaka's story quest (haven't gone through Yoimiya's yet). She's such a sweet girl, and deserves all of the friends in the world.

Question:
Where do we pick it up again?

Kujou Encampment.

Is there a comprehensive guide for this? I'm not sure exactly what I need to do daily and for what, haha.

There can't be a complete guide for them yet as they unlock daily as you do them like a quest chain. They open up certain areas of the island that contain oculi/chests/other quests. Just be sure to talk to Xavier on Tatarasuna every day. The quests themselves are pretty easy and self explanatory.

Why are the side quests super interesting with amazing puzzles cool locations secrets and rewards and then main story quests are just… basic dialogue after dialogue with no gameplay always in the same basic places? I DONT GET IT LOL

Just completed Zhongli's first story quest sal flore (I know, I'm somewhat behind in these questlines lol). Zhongli was boring in the main story but I really liked him here. Dungeon was also great. Somehow I never have seen the entrance to that cave.. there are some spots in Liyue that I never have explored properly.

Yeah its weird. I wonder if two different teams were involved and the main story got stuck with the Liyue designers.

I'm going to guess they don't want to hinder people's ability to go through the main story by not being able to solve puzzles or find secrets, and so they leave it for optional content.

Though I agree it's frustrating. I do as I said like the main story though. But it doesn't require much thought. Cool cutscenes though. Also the dungeon in Chapter 1 was pretty cool, way better than usual.

Is it me, or is the Electro Traveler actually kind of good? Not amazing, but I don't feel like having them in my party is an objective detriment.

Hmm it's probably just because before her no one wanted to play charge shot archers. People didn't really like archers period. So she's very strong but with the caveat of you have play in a way that most people don't like playing, which is a form of balance. If there was a choice of two characters, Ganyu and a sword/polearm user that was equivalent of Ganyu in terms of power, a high majority of players would likely pick the latter simply because they don't want to play a charged shot character. So making those characters a bit more powerful gives the playerbase the incentive to play them. And as we've seen, that has been the case.

Yeah that could be why, but as you said I was happy we at least got that cool dungeon this time. I wonder how Act II is, I haven't reached it yet.

Ayaka's quest got my cold, black heart to feel some semblance of emotion. Haven't felt that way towards a character quest since Venti's, so it's definitely up there amongst the best character quests.

Started Yoimiya's too and it's already looking like a lot of fun.

What's a good 4 star sword for Ayaka to use if you don't want to whale or buy a weapon?

I'm thinking of getting the craftable sword. The one in her trailer.

I'm still trying to pull for Ayaka, but I feel like it doesn't even make sense from a team building perspective. I'm trying to decide a fourth for a trio of Ganyu + Mona + Keqing, and I'm like 90% sure that Ayaka doesn't fit into that.

I'm guessing with these units, pulling for Ayaka would just be just because I like her?
