Hasn't taken more than a few minutes to find a match for me. And had a lot of good marathons with great ping players of a similar (pretty good but no Daigo [anymore]) skill level.

It is worth remembering, however, that Steam and GOG versions don't have crossplay even with each other, and Steam is probably more populated.
