But on the other hand, the latest season aired last year; so the joke doesn't work.

2002 was 17 years ago. When you watch The Two Towers in 2002, an equivalent movie from 17 years ago would be 1985: Back to The Future.

Now tell me if in 2002 you wouldn't consider Back to The Future as old.

It's an old show. It's like when I was a kid in the eighties and shit that was on TV when my parents were kids in the 1950s was thirty years old.

I think it's fair to call it an "old show" because I bet if you ask an average teenager, I think some would've heard of it because of pop-culture references and whatnot, but probably a good number wouldn't know what the show was. (edit: Oh wait, they did recent seasons too? I didn't know that)

I liked Millennium more, personally.

I'm 32 and loved watching X-Files when I was younger. But yeah, in reality it is an older show that younger people may not have seen (unless they watched the most recent two seasons).

It's an old show if it's over 20 years old. If you grew up in the 90's, shows from the 70's were considered old.
