Era, what games do you play in the winter?

More specifically - are there any particular games you love revisiting during the winter because there's just something about them that says "winter" to you? I guess I've been feeling in a bit of a wintry mood lately and I have been looking for games I can play that can match or enhance that mood.

Feel free to interpret "winter game" however you see fit, but games I've turned to in the past to scratch this particular itch include Skyrim, the Syberia games, or The Long Dark.

(Feel free to delete this thread, mods, if redundant; I did a brief search and didn't see anything, though I could've always missed something).

It doesn't fit your criteria, but I always associate Mafia 1 with winter because I got it at Christmas as a kid and spent a week over New Year playing it and eating haribo.

Good times.

I don't know why, but I always associated Fallout 3/4 with winter. There was something to be said for bundling up and listening to that classical soundtrack.

I really enjoy TLoU this time of year....this is the first Xmas with the sequel, so I might go that route. Especially the first few hours.

I enjoy nice playthroughs of SSX Tricky and SSX 3. I Am Setsuna is also a perfect Winter game with its snowy world.

Exploring division 1 is always fun, snow plus Christmas setting.
To bad the sequel went as stale as possible ( location wise)

We need more games with a Christmas/winter theme to them! And be very festive and not use it as an afterthought lol.

Not Winter themed in general but winter time is Visual Novel time for me. When it's dark outside, lighting a candle to read some good VNs, doesn't get much more cozy. Currently playing Umineko for the first time.

Winter for me is a time for cozy single player games. The Witcher 3 is perfect for this season.

Visual Novels are great during Winter. Also, generically spooky games.

See, this is me, except with old school point-and-click adventure games instead of visual novels. Though Umineko seems like a great fit for the season, too, given the game's setting. But yeah, 100% agree that this is a great time of year for spooky games/games with spooky vibes.

I also love point and clicks in the winter!

Ahh, any in particular you like to revisit?

For me, other than Syberia, I like to go back and play a few of the old Nancy Drew adventure games, if you've played any of those. I don't think I have it anymore, but I also used to love this random point-and-click adaptation of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express.

Whenever I replay Saints Row 4 I usually save this dlc for december:

It is really cozy.

Also Yakuza is great in december. They usually take place in december.

Also Parasite Eve.

Yeah, Division 1's setting is one of my favorites and has an underappreciated open world that's incredibly detailed. They absolutely nailed desolate snowy NYC at Christmas. The snowstorms that would roll in during gameplay were so good. The atmosphere of Div 1 is just far more compelling than Div 2's.

I always associate Silent Hill: Shattered Memories with winter, not only because of the themes of the game, but also because it released in December '09 and I played it over the break.

In my hot and humid af city year round, I can only empathize with the NCR Soldiers wishing for a nuclear winter in New Vegas.

Even though I haven't played it since it came out, Phendrana Drifts from Metroid Prime still immediately jumped into my head.

Cold dark winter days and nights are for long (dark?) RPGs. There ain't nothing else to do but spend unbroken hours getting lost in another world.

I live in a place where it's freezing cold in the winter and has all the snow and ice I can handle. So my idea of a good winter game is the exact opposite of that. Give me the hot fiery pits of hell in Doom any day.

Frostpunk easily! Besides the frozen theme, it also takes place in 1886 for extra Charles Dickens vibes.
There's extra missions to bring Christmas to your people too if you play it in December.

Since you mentioned it, hows Syberia 3?
Also Id say Arkham Origins, Gris

I actually have not gotten around to Syberia 3 yet. I was always curious about the decision to continue the series, actually, as I felt that Syberia 2 ended beautifully.

I usually go play Alan Wake during this time of the year. I really love the mood in that game.

Adding both of these to my list. Heard good things about Frostpunk and I missed out on Alan Wake back when it first came out.

Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams! Skyrim. I thought The Division 1 did a phenomenal job of rendering a city in winter. Also perhaps Parasite Eve as well.

Pretty much anything from Bethesda Game Studios -- not even just Skyrim. Maybe Oblivion doesn't make the list since so much of it is so green. But yeah. I dunno why, even.

FFVIII gets replays from me every several winters, too.

Maxed out The Division 1 is still one of the best looking games out there. It has the best winter themed open world in any AAA game IMO.

I always have a huge urge to play Super Mario World during Christmas. Once my local target got a SNES kiosk, I'd play it several times a week while a certain classic X-Mas track constantly played in the background. Then I got a SNES for X-Mas while I was 8.
