This is the screen to show at people who think that you can't have realistic graphics without rtx stuff...
No one is saying that?

Anyways. Have yet to play Metro Exodus , but I am just in awe how believable its environments are

All due respect to every dev out there.

Polyphony are in a league of their own when it comes to "no way that's a video game". Scapes mode is cheating, though.

There's some truly stunning technical achievements I'm seeing that are really catching me off guard.

I'm still hitting the less-technical stuff.

Base PS4 still pulling its weight.

Another one that I enjoy in an abstract way is a lot of the DLC Time Trials in Mirror's Edge. They're all trippy, Escher-style works of art.

What on earth I never played those I should get back to it. Original or catalyst?

In regards to Baten Kaitos (and many other games featuring pre-rendered backgrounds) I always wondered how they did the more dynamic effects like lighting or animated portions. Was that little snippet of a screen basically a gif? Would they calculate the lighting for that specific area and have the game overlay it on the scene?

We're kind of at odds here with games that have photorealistic art direction and games that have more visually abstract art direction, but thank you to the people posting Attack of the Friday Monsters, Gris and Gorogoa, because these games deserve love.

That's a very good one. In a similar boat, Square did some stuff in KH3 that if I didn't know better I'd say was straight from the movies. The Pirates section may not be photo-realistic, but it'd definitely pass for a Robert Zemeckis-style CG film like Beowulf or Polar Express, while you have to squint to know which version of Frozen is from the film and which is from the game.

Two of those screenshots are literally CGI...

I've always thought these three of mine from RDR 2 looked super realistic, especially the last one, which looks like a painting you'd find in a shitty motel room.

LSD screenshots kinda look like the cover art of a trendy art pop album:

El Shaddai is a good contender for this but I can't find decent screenshots for it:

such a shame this was never ported to PC, remastered, and/or 4K Backwards compatible on xbox one x.

Nothing. The game is locked away behind it's low res, and man you can just see how much it would shine.

that is almost entirely prebaked. Which is fine, it looks good. It's completely static lighting. Ray tracing is doing that lighting for real so that the whole game has lighting that good at all time of day

whats the difference to other roguelikes? I often love the look and the feel (e.g. dead cells) but the gameplay loop just annoys me.
the game is a roguelite not roguelike, you can buy power up that endure for every run.

the gameplay is super fun, varied, with pixel perfect precision and great controls.

all the weapons feels great and are all viable.

the art design of location, npc, etc. is sublime, even the lore and story are very well made for a roguelike. (the english va is EXCELLENT, like triple A excellent)

and all the progression system with the boon with different gods reminds me of transistor and his mix and match of powers, if you like that type of personalization you are gonna love hades.

i hate roguelike with a passion and hades is my indie goty of 2019.

right now is on a little halloween discount on the epic store, i bough the game when it was 14 euros, a fucking steal.

p.s. even the soundtrack is great.

Out of all the ample stunners in this thread, I'm quite glad at all the El Sheddai love that's been thrown at it. It truly is one of a kind. Also pleased at the Alice: Madness Returns mention for a particularly great section of the game.

Also, holy shit that GT Sport gif. That HAS to have been edited at some level. I simply can't believe it.

Base PS4 still pulling its weight.

I had no notion such abstract levels existed in Mirror's Edge. Damn, you've successfully got me all geared up to experience these.

Do you guys want to put the name with the pic.

What's the point in making the thread twice as long to scroll through with everyone asking.
For real. This is a discussion forum, when you post an image whose source only SOME people will guess then discussion goes to shit.
Besides I like threads like this one in order to discover new stuff but if what we get are only nameless images then the thread becomes pointless.
To the people who bother spending a few seconds to name their images sorry for the rant.
