I don't know if I've ever crafted a potion from shit I've picked up around a gameworld ever. Just could not give less of a shit about that

Playing cards in rpgs.
Yeah, never played any Triple Triad or Tetra Master in FF unless it was required

Same for all the mini games actually - gold saucer, blitzball etc. They just aren't that fun and since they aren't the main focus of the game I feel like they lack polish

Just a system, feature or mini game that a game offers but you never do.

Fishing in Zelda: Was shocked at how many people were disappointed this wasn't in BotW. Just never enticed me at all. My only experience with it was at the mandatory beginning of Twilight Princess I think.
I don't really like Fishing either. Breath of the Wild physics system renders the whole thing pointless. Why bother fishing when you can just use creative ways to get your fish which is far more fun to do.

I rarely engage in most mini games - Gwent is something I can think of on top of my head, there's others like Sleeping Dogs with it's own like the Cock fighting, Karaoke etc Yakuza. It's nice knowing these things are in the game kind of makes the game feel detailed but not really something I think are interesting to do.

Most online components in games like Monster Hunter, Souls games.

All those random collectables that games put in. If it doesn't have gameplay value or heavy lore involved, I'm not going to waste time on them.

-Magic in Souls games (though I might play around with some spells on my 4th playthroughs or later)

All gambling that involves card games like poker, blackjack, etc. i never play them or give a fuck about them in real life and even less of a fuck playing digital versions of them.

Also Town building in FO4, completely skipped doing any of it

If a game has them, my inventory will quickly fill up with any items that give temporary buffs. Permanent stat boosts I'm all about, but the impermanence of temp ones makes it so I just don't ever bother with them.

Any multiplayer component in single player game.

Even when I want to do them (Like the hacking stuff in Watch Dogs), they tend to be more trouble than they're worth

Pokemon Amie/Refresh. Not only they make the game easier in a way that feels like cheating, I hate the forced friendship stuff in Pokemon.

I'm pitting these monsters in cockfights like you told me game, so why would you want me to caress them and feel guilty for making them fight? Are you telling me Team Plasma was right?

The story in FF14.
I think it's awful and couldn't care less about it going into Shadow Bringers.

Its not forced if you skipped it.

Not what I meant. I'm not saying the game forces you to do it, I'm saying I don't like the general "friendship is magic" theming because it feels forced to me, like they're trying too hard to obfuscate that my pet friend just fainted because I had it take a flamethrower in the face.

I never play online in competitive games other than games with a big emphasis on cooperate with a team.
So i buy fighting games only for solo modes for exemple.

Buffs/debuffs in most games. I really want to get into status effects moves because I like the strategy behind stuff like that but my playstyle always ends up pushing me toward DPS!

I use Buff Debuff in some rre games that makes them almost mandatory (like Shining The Holy Ark), but it's very rare that i spend my precious MP on something else than attack or healing.

crafting if i can avoid it unless it's easy to get materials by just doing the usual

This. Crafting is a boring mecanic.

Car tuning in any simulation-ish racing games.

Yeah if i play a racing game, it's for racing, not spending my time budging some random stats i don't even understand
If it' like on Mao Kart 8 DX with just 3 simple part to choose it's OK, but even then i often choose parts for the design/style

I never want to use any kind of consumable buff in an action game. Fire Paper in Bloodborne, or the sugars in Sekiro, Holy Water in DMC, lollipops in Bayonetta. I always want to beat the enemies 'legit', so I never touch them and they all just go to waste by the end of the game.

Oh. Well I do agree GF/TPC want to have their cake and eat it too.
like are they dangerous animals or personable battle pets? Gamefreak: Yes

I do think giving them more personality/agency ie. anime style makes it less questionable though because you can see they know its a sport. Your preference where they're just tools/animals is far more questionable to me.

Oh yeah, drifting mechanics in most racing games (eg: Forza Horizon 4 is a recent one).
I.... I just don't get it. It makes sense in Kart racers, I can do that, but when they have quests to drift in games like Forza or NFS I just manage to fumble my way through enough to pass at the lowest rank, and then avoid it as much as possible.

Crafting, 95% of the time I just avoid it. Games where you craft consumable non-interesting items in particular. It's just a huge waste of time for everyone involved.

Notable exeptions are FFIX and Star Ocean 3!

I honestly have a problem with the way they try to have both.

I know I'm in the minority, but I care very little about the human characters and wouldn't mind them getting ditched. I think that if the main games were structured more like PMD with your Pokemon actually being a group of friends trying to achieve something meaningful I'd be more OK with the violence.

As for me seeing Pokemon as tools... I mean, adore the designs and personality traits of the creatures themselves. I love seeing artwork of them and reading about what inspired each design.

But I've played Pokemon for so much time, and I've done so many different runs of each game rather than keeping a single save file, that an individual of a species isn't something I get very attached to. I love doing stuff like Monotype playthroughs, and in those you better believe sometimes I'll have to sack a mon to bring in a healthy one. And playing that way allows me to experience more of the battle system without having to jump into competitive, which is more fun to me than looking at this specific Chimchar I started with this time and thinking of it as a friend and petting it.

I'm not a huge fan of the rhythm mini games thrown into some games. The little band jams in Scott Pilgrim or The Dishwasher. Some of the stuff in Yakuza. Which is somewhat odd considering I enjoy osu, eba, theatrhythm etc.

I'm not a huge fan of fishing either.

After 150 hours in Xenoblade 2 I still have no real idea how Fusion Combos or "ideas" work, or what "sealing" enemies with broken elemental orbs does. I also never notice enemies' special weaknesses or powers.

That said, the game doesn't make any effort to properly explain its mechanics to you, so I don't make any effort to learn them either.

Alchemy in Witcher 3. I've heard that it's a lot more important on the harder difficulties but on normal I didn't really bother with any of that unless I had a quest where it forced me to use it.

Same. I didn't really understand it and I felt the game did a very poor job of introducing the player to it.

Love racing games. Hate drifting. Get annoyed when a game forces me to do some drifting. And then I'll only do enough to get through, no interest in mastering or maxing out.

Pet battles in WoW. I remember being super stoked when they were announced, but I'll be damned if I've ever done even a single one. I forget they're even a thing more often than not when I'm subbed.

Crafting, fishing, minigames and Gwent are all good ones

I never bothered with all that Festival Plaza stuff in Pokemon Sun/Moon. Funny when games clearly want to engage in stuff like that and you just ignore it.

I am not generally interested in customisation, I usually prefer to stick to the default. I never bought clothes in Pokemon, no interest in alternate costumes or skins in games in general, I always use the default kart/wheels/glider in Mario Kart etc.

Collectables that don't unlock gameplay items.

For example, I'll always try and collect the KONG letters in DKTF which unlock amazing new stages, but the jigsaw pieces? Nah.

The only exception to this is the strawberries in Celeste. While I won't obsessively try and get them all, I will often try and get them because they are always there to highlight a really difficult piece of platforming. I don't care about the strawberries themselves, but the bits of platforming you do on the way are always brilliant.

Playing video games, what a damn waste of time.

Not really the same thing.

Nero's charge blade: or whatever it's called in DMC4 or 5. Never took the time to figure out how it worked and don't play the game to get super high rankings so I just left it alone

I could not understand it either. Same with dodge timing in DMC4 but still got the highest rankings half through the game.

Bloodborne is another. I never used parry as I could never get the timing right or thought it could be used for everyone. Was not worth the risk of trying and only used it for dealing chip damage. Still managed to beat the DLC on new game ++.

Basically all the hunting stuff from RDR2

Exactly the same. Generally speaking, hunting in games to craft things.

Here's a list I would edit multiple times :

- Weapons in Yakuza (at least in Kiwami since I'm LTTP)
- Cooking (& eating) in Kingdom Hearts 3 !
- Older but still : Speedbreaker in NFS Most Wanted/Carbon
- Abilities of the 3 main characters in GTA5

As mentioned, hunting in RDR2. It was simply not fun.

Also debuff spells like Sloth etc. in Nioh. They made the game too easy and it felt like cheating.

Huh. I really like crafting, ya'll.

The biggest ones for me are that I pretty much don't build in Fortnite (which is a very casual game for me, anyway) and, on a much larger scale, I just don't really do combos in games. If there's a game in which your actions are real-time and you have to string a whole bunch of combat moves together in one consolidated, effective flow, it just doesn't click for me. It's a huge blind spot.

Monster raising/catching - I tend to avoid these games
Gacha mechanics - hated these in xenoblade 2 and got like, halve of the unique blades, which is a shame really
Casino's - I can't be bothered to waste my time on this stuff
Crafting - elaborate crafting mechanics, especially with random elements, take way too much time
Cosmetics/outfits - I like these if they don't cost a lot of time, otherwise the main look is just fine

Anything that requires me to waist time from my adventure just to slightly improve stats or whatever.
Like crafting. Why's crafting gotta be in everything nowadays? Too many AAA games try to shove everything except the kitchen sink into their games to the games detriment. RDR2 was really bad about pointless bloat.
