Ain't Perfect was hard. Lots of good stuff from everyone.
I'm going with TheChuggernaut because there was a thread of musical imperfections in the songs in addition to the lyrics dealing with the concept.

(nod to ChubbyHuggs for introducing me to that Jungle track)

And I'm done making up with themes I missed:
In the Bedroom (Tegan and Sara - Closer ; The Bran Flakes - Jump Up ; Cornelius - Sleep Warm)
End of the World (Xiu Xiu - The Call ; Dan Deacon - Red F ; Angelo Badalamenti - Dark Space so Low)

Ain't Perfect

Kevin Devine - Ballgame

and when you realize it's a pattern and not a phase, it's what you've become and it's what you will stay, that's ballgame

Nick Drake - Horn

Owen - Note to Self:

you're just more unlikable than you used to be. you're a long ways away from the place we thought you'd be by now

Hah, technically that would be Wise Up, but either way I do love both songs..!! The movie brims with that kind of musical-esque boldness and it's grrr-eat.

For the Childhood's End's batch, there were so much good stuff. Speaking of Dangerblade's The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, their debut record is a very good coming-of-age miasma in general.

At the end it came down to a few close calls but I had'a give it to TheChuggernaut, loved the bounce from Sparklers to Daft Punk then to the reflective American Football track at the end. ^^' Plus putting it in the context of a seasonal love hits my buttons. ;_;

Also as abeeiamnot accrued the most votes for Childhood's End you're free to pick out the next title whenever ya wish..!! ;o

This is such a fun game.

Here is my try for "Earth, wind and fire" (there is no consistency just some good songs that fit the motto)

Earth (as in the planet) - Aurora, Half the World Away:

Wind - Cat Power, Wild is the Wind:

https://youtu.be/zklbyI7ovrA

Fire - Modest Mouse, Lampshades on Fire:

I'm gonna go with TissueBox for Ain't it Perfect. Love all the songs in your mix.

For Earth, Wind and Fire i decided to throw some water into the mix:

LP - Muddy Waters
https://youtu.be/o6SprGmHTy4

Porcupine Tree - Cloud Zero
https://youtu.be/IixydU8N0HM

Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - Not Fire, Not Ice
https://youtu.be/3RTAIR-zBR4
You the man for that Porcupine Tree fam. Huge fan. Good stuff from everyone. I should mix for you guys with most of the stuff posted here. ChubbyHuggs I'm going to be at that Mastodon show in Brooklyn soon. Very underrated group.

Paquete_PT for Earth, Wind and Fire :)

Thanks ;)

Family matters:

# The Cranberries - Ode to my Family - Love Dolores' voice and the lyrics

# Nizlopi - JCB - Such a simple and child-like song but that touches me deeply. Reminds me of my dad.

# Family of the year - Hero - The soundtrack to boyhood. Not exactly about family, but I think it's impossible to talk about growing up without thinking about your family.

This is a fantastic idea for a thread, and I'm sad to discover it this late. Here's my choice for the Family Matters theme:

1. Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Someday never comes"
This song is about the confusion that comes when the parents divorce, about the lack of answers and understanding. It then goes to show that the kid has grown to make the same mistakes, this time with his own family. He hasn't learned anything, and he's setting up his son for the same path.

2. Blackberry Smoke - "Prayer for the little man"
Similar in concept to the previous song. This one is way more desperate, with the narrator worrying about what will happen to his child now that he's gone, while regretting having broken up with his ex. He also remembers his father doing the same, just like in CCR's song.

3. Fleetwood Mac - "Show me a smile" (song starts at 39:07)
I wanted to close the mixtape with an optimistic track. This one was written by Christine McVie and released 4 years before the band hit it big; it doesn't feature Stevie Nicks nor Lindsey Buckingham. Here McVie sings softly and beautifully to her child (as far as I know she actually has none), stating how his smile is enough to make her feel happy. It tells him about the pains of growing up and the importance of enjoying one's childhood to the max. I think this song perfectly encapsulates a mother's love for her kid, and the knowledge that their childhood innocence will one day be over.

For Earth, Wind, and Fire I'll vote for Dangerblade

Family Matters

1. AJJ - Who Are You?

2. I Come to Shanghai - Mother's Arms

3. Buck 65 - Roses and Bluejays

But nods to saenima for the water thing and to Dr.Social for a solid mix.

Looks like TissueBox is next up?

I went back and forth a lot but ended up settling on Dr.Social for Eath, Wind and Fire.

So who's next?

Thanks, glad people enjoyed it.

Really cool thread! I'll mostly listen, though, since I don't know a lot of music in English.

Mac Davis -- Watching Scotty Grow

There he sits with a pen and a yellow pad
What a handsome lad
That's my boy
BRLFQ spells mom and dad
But that ain't too bad
That's my boy
You can have your TV and you nightclubs
And you can have your drive in picture show
I'll stay here with my little man near
We'll listen to the radio
Biding my time and
Watching Scotty grow

2Pac -- Dear Mama
https://youtu.be/Mb1ZvUDvLDY

When things went wrong we'd blame mama
I reminisce on the stress I caused, it was hell
Hugging on my mama from a jail cell
And who'd think in elementary?
Hey! I see the penitentiary, one day
And running from the police, that's right
Mama catch me, put a whooping to my backside
And even as a crack fiend, mama
You always was a black queen, mama
I finally understand
For a woman it ain't easy trying to raise a man
(I know it ain't easy)
You always was committed
A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how ya did it
There's no way I can pay you back
But the plan is to show you that I understand
You are appreciated

Alan Parsons Project -- Day After Day (The Show Must Go On)

Remember your daddy
When no one was wiser.
Your ma used to say
That you would go farther than he ever could
With time on your side...

Think of a boy with the stars in his eyes,
Longing to reach them but frightened to try.
Sadly you'd say someday, someday...

But day after day
The show must go on,
And time slipped away
Before you could build any castles in Spain...
The chance had gone by.

Ooh jeez I really dug them playlists by Paquete and saenima, beautiful all around, so, ya know, up my alley there. :p But as a whole there were interesting sonic workings everywhere. Enjoyed seeing everyone's take on such a funky topic..!! BUT in the end I'm punching in Paquete_PT, particularly for that wondrous Aurora song. I'm crying. CRYING.

Edward Sharpe and Child of the Desert are going on the desert playlist too. Eurgh once again, the pickings were close. >_<

Anyways, it's late but here, thus, comes Earth, Wind, and Fire... (or Earth, Fire, and Wind, more like -- STILL) as it would've been. :p

1. Crater Lake by Yawning Man

2. Light My Fire by The Doors

3. A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart by Bill Ryder-Jones

OK so, with 2 votes in it looks like Paquete_PT takes the baton! At the signal..!

EDIT: Whoop scratch that nearly missed the top post, Dangerblade racked up a pair too!! It is an equal heading and In that case, my fav pick was Paquete's as well, so I gotta go with 'em on this one. But that Slowdive track is fine jams. ;p LUHV *fist chest pound*

As for family matters, my vote goes for S.T.A.R.S. Beret

Yep, feel free to drop whatever comes to mind! ^^'

Great! I'm loving this game, so i have a few ideas. But for now I'm going with the theme:

Miscommunications

Mainly because right now I've been listening to the first two songs a lot.

1 - Chvrches - Never Say Die (They have been one of my "guilty pleasures" for a while, and this album has some great tunes)

This acoustic version is great as well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qQdemKZngI

2 - Deadmau5 + Imogen Heap - Love the tunes and lyrics for this song, fits really well with the way we communicate in today's world.

3 - The Ting Tings - Be the One - my favorite song of theirs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xEIGEonqM8

Can't wait to hear your mixtape :) (It's too bad you can only have 2 youtube clips per post)

Miscommunications

Genesis -- Illegal Alien

I got a cousin and she got a friend,
Who thought that her aunt knew a man who could help
At his apartment I knocked on the door,
He wouldn't come out until he got paid.
Now don't tell anybody what I wanna do
If they find out you know that they'll never let me through.
It's no fun being an illegal alien
It's no fun being an illegal alien
Down at the office had to fill out the forms
A pink one, a red one, the colours you choose,
Up to the counter to see what they think
They said 'It doesn't count man, it ain't written in ink'.
Don't trust anybody least not around here, cause
It's not fun being an illegal alien,
It's not fun being an illegal alien,
It's not fun being an illegal alien,
It's not fun being an illegal alien,
An illegal alien, O.K.

Eminem -- Stan

Dear Slim, you still ain't called or wrote, I hope you have a chance
I ain't mad, I just think it's fucked up you don't answer fans
If you didn't wanna talk to me outside your concert
You didn't have to, but you coulda signed an autograph for Matthew
That's my little brother man, he's only six years old
We waited in the blistering cold for you,
For four hours and you just said, "No."
That's pretty shitty man, you're like his fuckin' idol
He wants to be just like you man, he likes you more than I do
I ain't that mad though, I just don't like bein' lied to
Remember when we met in Denver, you said if I'd write you you would write back
See I'm just like you in a way
I never knew my father neither
He used to always cheat on my mom and beat her
I can relate to what you're saying in your songs
So when I have a shitty day, I drift away and put 'em on
'Cause I don't really got shit else so that shit helps when I'm depressed
I even got a tattoo of your name across the chest
Sometimes I even cut myself to see how much it bleeds
It's like adrenaline, the pain is such a sudden rush for me
See everything you say is real, and I respect you cause you tell it
My girlfriend's jealous 'cause I talk about you 24/7
But she don't know you like I know you Slim, no one does
She don't know what it was like for people like us growin' up, you gotta call me man
I'll be the biggest fan you'll ever lose
Sincerely yours, Stan, P.S. we should be together too

Harry Nilsson -- Everybody's Talkin'

Everybody's talking at me
I don't hear a word they're saying
Only the echoes of my mind
People stopping, staring
I can't see their faces
Only the shadows of their eyes

Miscommunication

1. Carly Rae Jepsen - Turn Me Up

2. Tegan and Sara - I Couldn't Be Your Friend

3. Against Me! - Because of the Shame

Tales of Miscommunication in 3 different states. (1 = during the disintegration of a relationship, 2 = after the end of a relationship, 3 = reflection after the loss of a person and miscommunication with said person)

In case you haven't figured out yet, I'm really a Tegan and Sara stan.

Dangerblade is my current choice for Miscommunication at the moment.

Do you actually have a desert playlist? I would love to see what's in it.

Wee-he-hell, prepare to be mostly light on load becaause it's actually not much lol -- it's also more the kind of songs (and rock-heavy. EDIT: desert rock, that was the word!) that bring to mind my local desert (the Sonoran/Mojave). xP Ie Glow in the Dark by Death Valley Girls, an actual Death Valley Suite, Yawning Sons, and of course, friken Songs for the Deaf by good 'ol Queens of the Stone Age -- which is basically a chronicle of a dude road-trekking across the California sand. But hey if you're up for a psychedelic, mood-setting time, it makes for a decent soundtrack on the desert road..!!

That's awesome. Thanks. I'll check those out.
I love the idea and I understand about the low count. I also collect playlists with very specific themes and they grow over time very slowly (e.g. my playlist of songs about telephones is only 4 songs-long right now; my playlist of songs that sample animal sounds is only about 5 songs-long currently).
