Sonic Heroes is a weird game. The PS2 suffered the same thing as Shadow where it felt super slippy and unresponsive on top of the normal bugs and glitches that plagued the Gamecube version, so that doesn't help.
As for the quality of the game, it's weird. Team Rose plays more like a traditional Sonic/Shadow SA2 style thing, due to it being fairly easy and the levels not being 20 minutes long, and Team Chaotix is fun as long as you have good taste and know that they're the best team (as well as not being put off by gimmick missions), but Team Sonic and Team Dark both suck. The former sucks because the levels go on for far too long, and the latter sucks because the game is so absolutely full of glitches that you're bound to die due to no fault of your own 18 minutes into a stage and have to start the whole stage over again. I remember where I stopped playing on this game because it annoyed me so damn much: on one of the haunted levels, I went to jump at the goal ring, and instead went straight through the edge of the ledge and got a game over, and that was where Sonic Heroes stopped for me.
Level design wise it's very inconsistent. It's starts off feeling like a 3D Sonic 2 in terms of level order for a bit, which I love, even if I'm not a huge fan of the layouts (and if I see Seaside Hill or Ocean Palace in a game again I'll scream), but then the rail levels absolutely suck all the momentum out of the game, the forest is boring to play, the haunted levels are a cool idea but not really fun, and then the Egg Fleet stuff is great.
I've only watched the first two vids, so if they've put any more out/done this already forgive me, but I'm absolutely waiting for them to press start to pause right at the end of a stage, going down to either restart or quit, and pressing start to 'un-pause it', which just restarts/quits out instantly lol.

Regarding Sonic Heroes, how long does it take before they start playing the game? Arin was halfway through the 1st stage and refused to engage with tutorials or press any other buttons, so I clocked out. I get that this is an Arin thing, but shit on the game for being bad and not because you don't know how to play it. Had to bounce off of Mario Galaxy 2 for the same reason.

He does start reading the tutorials, but this is one of the few times where Arin's hate is completely warranted. Sonic Heroes is bad. VERY bad.
Yeah, that's why I wanted to watch the LP. I know it's bad. I've suffered through Sonic Heroes too (and boy if they decide to go through all 4 teams this is gonna be great), but I guess this was my time to vent frustration at Arin refusing to fully interact with the games he plays.

Every time I watch someone play a 3D Sonic game I thank goodness I grew up a Mario fan. I'd hate to be a Sonic fanboy. I'd be so depressed every time I bought a new game only for it to inevitably be terrible. Sonic was never meant to leave 2D. Sorry but it's true. He was made for a specific time and a specific genre. He probably should have stayed there.

I don't really know why you would defend Sonic of all things. The franchise has proven time and time again how poorly it works in 3D. Gotta go fast doesn't really work in cramped environments. How often does a new Sonic game get shown off, people get excited, it comes out, and it's a disappointment full of bugs and bad decisions. But you're free to enjoy it if it's what you enjoy.
I also don't want to spend my day off arguing about Sonic. lol

I was totally ignoring this series and I decided to watch it based on these comments.
And oh my god, it's amazing. I haven't laughed this hard at GG in ages. I think Patsu Hunter was the last one that had me laughing this hard.
watch Stick Fight too! has that involved high energy too and it's hilarious. they get so giddy playing this it makes me happy
The Grumps are always at their best when they're doing co-op. Even with Jon and Goof Troop. My favorite is still Dan's trolling in Mario 3D World. But Bunny Man was amazing.
yes! that's what i've always thought. one of my absolute favourite playthroughs is their Shovel Knight Co-Op, so many classic Dan moments in there cause of how troll-y he got

Finally, they got to Sonic Shuffle. As much as I love Sonic, Shuffle is the worst fucking game with Sonic's name on it.

The Sonic Shuffle playthrough was frustrating for so many reasons, primarily because I've played that game and have been frustrated with how obtuse it is.
I have a playlist that I made which is all of DDLC up until the first big turn, because that's the point where the game/series becomes more scary than funny.
I've been rewatching a few of my favorites as well. I've got Sakura Santa running right now, and their reactions to this game are so goddamn funny.
