One of the oldies.

The time has come for me to step away from Blizzard and pass the torch to the next generation of leaders.

My journey as part of the Blizzard community began over 28 years ago. Allen offered me an opportunity to join him and Mike in their adventure and dream to make video games. Video games were a passion that we shared, and I had only a fleeting hope that I would have the opportunity to make games one day. The decision was easy for me - I did not have the benefit of internet searches to help start me down the path. Allen's offer letter was the best and only chance I thought I might ever have. Looking back, I know how incredibly fortunate I was to have been a part of what Blizzard has become.

Frozen Throne/LoD/Brood War into WoW was the greatest golden age for a game company ever, sad how far they've fallen :/

Sad day for Blizzard. But yeah, a lot of them are tired of Activision and are leaving.

Guys work at the same place until you die
Yeah that's more or less the sentiment in these threads
I don't think it is. It's more that with him gone, what does it mean for the company that is attached to Activision? It'd be great if he found a successor with the same ideals and practices the founders carried, but they're being helmed by Activision.

He earned his retirement, no question about that, it's just that now the company may take a shitty turn.

If it was just 1 guy leaving, that would be normal, but it's been a concerning pattern for Blizzard for a while now. Just a continual string of "not good" news about one of my longtime favorite developers.

From 28 years ago? i'd imagine most companies have lots of employees leave over the course of 28 damn years lmao.

In isolation of course it's common but when it's a part of a larger trail of veterans leaving Blizzard it has more relevance. Blizzard was the dream job but these days all I hear is that it's very stressful there now.

Who are these people, and why is this pattern different from any other place.....it's not like this industry is known for it's turnover rates.

Exactly. 2 of 3 founders leaving within 12 months amidst massive controversy and layoffs is perfectly normal. You fools. you idiot children.
Im sorry but why does that matter? We don't know anything, you don't find people making definitive statements weird? You know instead of celebrating the work he has done? Not every thread needs to be about the sky falling.

That's what Activision does to companies.
Lol this thread IS HILARIOUS.

No, that's what old age does. Don't blame him for leaving after 26 years of hard work, these guys are pushing their early 50's working in the same space. I'm sure he needs a change after the vast library of success and failures he has shared.

All the best to him. I fondly remember all the great and classic Blizzard games. A shame that Blizzard of today is trash, but I'll just remember the good, old RTS/ARPG games.

So what's more likely? People who have worked a long time at Blizzard all finally deciding to move on over the last couple of years at the same time the company's outward appearance has drastically changed as a coincidence, or the change being the cause?

Some of you act like you'd still get these types of comments if the company hadn't changed at all and was still as popular today as it was back then.

This kind of stuff is inevitable and it doesnt need to mean DRAMA. 28 years at ANY job is crazy! I have no idea what he did or was responsible for but if he was great then part of his job is to impart his knowledge to the next generation and if he feels he has done that and wants to peace out and do something else ... then thats a good thing.

Maybe it's not our place to say and it doesn't matter because this isn't a gaming tabloid. Like this guy busted his ass for 28 years, I'm happy he has time to rest with his family and lay on his fat stacks. Like at least wish the guy luck before y'all pull out the pitchforks.

He had one hell of a run at Blizzard. We wish you nothing but the best, Frank.

One of the original founders. 2/3 leave in a 1 year span, and others of note are also gone, massive layoffs in recent history, under performing games and word that they are doing scummy stuff like firing tenured staff and hiring for those same positions with new people shortly after.... Yeah, the discussion isn't going to be one filled with rainbows. Losing this guy is huge, and it matters. LOL @ trying to play the "Work at a place" card on a freaking founder. Maybe if he was some CSR or somthing that might have a little more sticking power.

Only Allen is left.

If all the cells in your body are replaced slowly one by one - are you still the original you?
