The Twilight Zone
West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit are investigating the acts.

West Midlands Police
Police are investigating after four mosques in Birmingham had their windows smashed overnight.

Police were called at 2.32am today (21 March) to reports of a man smashing windows with a sledgehammer at the mosque on Birchfield Road.

Officers arrived within minutes, but soon established that the attack had happened some time earlier.

At 3.14am, police were alerted to a similar attack at the mosque on Slade Road, Erdington.

Police began patrols in areas with mosques and came across further damage at places of worship on Witton Road, Aston, and at Broadway, Perry Barr.

Forensic officers are working to identify evidence, and CCTV is being examined.

Neighbourhood officers are carrying out proactive patrols and are working closely with mosques around the West Midlands today.

Additionally, at 10.04am today police were called to a mosque on Albert Road following reports that a window had just been smashed. At this stage, it is being treated as linked to the earlier incidents.

The motive behind the attacks, which are being treated as linked, is yet to be established but West Midlands Police and the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit are investigating.

West Midlands Police Chief Constable Dave Thompson said: "Since the tragic events in Christchurch, New Zealand, officers and staff from West Midlands Police have been working closely with our faith partners across the region to offer reassurance and support at mosques, churches and places of prayer.

"At the moment we don't know the motive for last night's attacks.

"What I can say is that the force and the Counter Terrorism Unit are working side-by-side to find whoever is responsible.

"At difficult times like this, it is incredibly important that everyone unites against those who seek to create discord, uncertainty and fear in our communities."

West Midlands Police and Crime Commisioner David Jamieson said: "Attacks of this nature have no place in our community and will not be tolerated. I want to reassure people that West Midlands Police is doing all it can to bring the perpetrators to justice."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police via Live Chat between 8am and midnight, via 101 any time, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Until governments and tech platforms begin treating white supremacists/Islamophobes like they do non-white terrorists/terrorism sympathizers (e.g., ISIS supporters), things won't get better.

Fucking cowards.

Good for them to treat it as an act of terrorism.
Indeed.

Agreed. We need to stamp out hate of all forms, and this is no different.

There's no place for this in any decent society and those who condone, apologize, or fan the flames of hatred need to be stopped.

I wonder if this might be connected to the recent issues in Birmingham with Muslim parents protesting the teaching of diversity classes at the schools and someone has decided to take some vigilante action.

I hope it isnt, the answer is probably just old fashioned racism, but it's slightly odd that both these things have happened in Birmingham recently

Yeah but you can't just say that. There could be a million reasons, sure this is most likely but just because there is a niche thing about the case, it can't just be jumped on.

Not every case where the victim isn't a straight white male, is a hate crime to whatever it is that makes them different. It's clickbait to jump to that conclusion.

It's almost certainly a hate crime*.

*Please note there is a 0.2% chance it is not a hate crime.

Is that better?

You're being a bit generous.

I do get the technical reason for the distinction but it sure is annoying. Even the National morning news was still calling the NZ attacker a "likely" white supremacist or some vague shit. So ridiculous.

This was targeted to mosques, its hardly niche.
Unless its the same person running them that these assholes had an issue with?

Like, it could be, right? It isn't likely, but it shouldn't just go straight for hate crime, it's just something that has always been a made me wonder why. Maybe they all got their windows done by the same company, and never paid?!

Either way, whatever it was or reason, it isn't smart and I hope it's all sorted before it grows.

I was kinda wondering the same. Usually I'd say it's pretty clear it's a hate crime but given what going on in Birmingham right now I can understand them being hesitant to say without knowing much about the suspect.

UK people are so cucked, they literally vote for a government that mandates them to buy porn licenses. they would never attack a mosque.

Not to sound pessimistic but at least it was at night and not during the day when the glass smashing might have hurt someone inside
