I'm glad to finally see a DS9 character back for modern Star Trek. Puzzling that Bashir seems to think he's a lawyer but I'll take it.
Let him play through his holo suite novel!

God damn it that show is magnificent. I really had huge doubts but I am blown away. This is really amazing television and incredible sci-fi.

Looked really nice but haven't the foggiest what's going on. Also the longest hour of my life. Thought it was 2 hours long before checking at the end.

Where the sun shines
Haven't read the books, is there enough material for 8 seasons?
counting the prequels and the sequels, thats 7 books, and with the expansions they appear to be doing, i can see 8 seasons easily. Assuming of course there are flashbacks to make use of the Prequel novels. But at the very least, they have already borrowed from them.

now its a question of how everything will be divided up.

Midgar, With Love
Show will need to do crazy well for eight seasons, especially in the streaming era. It looks incredibly expensive. Apple hasn't gotten in hard on cancellations yet so if it does well enough I suppose it's in the cards.

Middling review aggregates won't help its chances, though. D:

Show is amazing. I have never read the books so cant compare the two but I am loving it. The visuals are amazing and I like sci-fi.

Only thing is it be nice to have like background info provided with some of the dialog as I was confused on the background of the world. Going to rewatch it over the weekend.

I'm familiar with the story and background via osmosis and other Asimov works. Watched the first two and I'm pretty interested. I've been a huge fan of Josh Friedman (TSCC) and David Goyer's works and the budget here is very impressive.

Series is amazing, mainly due the visuals. I love Space Operas and there aren't many series of movies preoccupied in recreating the description of the books.

This was straight up the best first two episodes I have watched of a new series in a long, long, long ass time.
And truth be told, I have never historically been a fan of this type of sprawling sci fi is the easiest definition I can give it.
Just something about this whole show and concept that really gripped me hard.

I was amazed how great looking the show is. Movie level budget per episode it seems like. I hope the blank check stays the entire run. A bit slow until the end. I'm not familiar with the source material so I might go read the trilogy after.

Watched the 1st episode.

The scale of things is really cool and seeing the elevator continue to fall was such a cool shot. The production value is insane. The worldbuilding is interesting so far.

Lee Pace is magnificent, but a lot of the dialogue is pretty unnatural. Particularly Raych is bad maybe it's just the actor, Jerril the spy dude was bad too. Gaal seemed to be pretty good with some good subtle acting at the start. Pace though, the dude is magnetic. Harris doing what Harris does.

I look forward to see where the show goes, there's a lot of shit to take in and the episode moved at a sprint but I'm hopeful it will all come together. There's a lot of things to set the table with especially with an opening like that where you get right into it. There is no room to breath. Terminus should slow it down since they're past baiting, new world order exposition, treason, huge reveal about the state of the galactic empire, and such lol

Lee Pace though, such a good villain in this.

I guess Foundation is causing an overload at Apple TV+, because here I am trying to watch Ted Lasso, and the app is acting all weird.

I know absolutely nothing about the books, and after episode 1 I'm hooked. It's visually stunning, and aside from Jared Harris, it's got Bear McCreary.

Watched the first episode last night and it hooked me big time. It's very very quality stuff. Can't wait to binge the rest this weekend.

Everyone who hasn't watched Halt and Catch Fire yet should do that while waiting for the new episode of Foundation.

First episode was alright. Right now it's riding on its expensive-as-fuck production values. Considering Goyer's involvement I unsurprisingly found the dialogue a bit weak and unengaging, but the world and sci-fi elements are actually pretty compelling and intriguing. I'll keep watching for now, but I could see myself dropping it if it gets any worse.

Really dug the first episode. Great sci-fi vibes. And I love what they've done with the characters and casting.

Just some great all around SciFi. It's a shame the reviewers can't see that.

But man, holy crap does this series look visually amazing. The art and sets are phenomenal. The budget is just crazy.

How do they build this stuff without any fail-safes in case of an accident, is the question
Its just the consequence of a space elevator. If it fails, you're fucked no matter what.

If it blows at the top near the counter weight, the tether wraps itself around the globe. If you cut it at the base, it slingshots into orbit and whips around the planet destroying shit as it goes up. If it blows at the top, then gets cut at the bottom, there is now momentum shooting it towards the planet and it'll fall back down and wrap itself around the planet.

Lots of danger to a space elevator. But oh so many benefits. So so many benefits. Also once you have a space faring civilization, having a tether break and wrap around the planet is the least of your worries given how literally everything in space is a weapon of mass destruction and one miscalculated FTL jump can destroy a planet.

signed up for apple TV so we could watch tonight. checked out the first episode and found it pretty interesting. I read the original trilogy last year. Can't believe how gorgeous it is. Stunning, really.

Lee Pace is always awesome, great to see him hamming it up a bit.

Looking forward to episode 2 tomorrow

maybe have guns on the ground or in orbit that can target the larger chunks. Or an orbital shield. Or the elevator could be exploded on every level and detach into smaller chunks that will burn easier in the atmosphere. Something? but its just a tv show so its okay :)

The worse part is the 54 month trip to Terminus. Holy fuck that would be so boring. Even with the holodecks.

Burning up in the atmosphere is no good. The tether has to be strong enough to withstand the strain of the atmosphere and all those different orbits on a daily basis, as well as handle the load that it carries. Otherwise the tether would snap or burn up during normal operation. So any material you used would be too strong to burn up in the atmosphere.

You also don't necessarily want to blow up the station to smitherines because the station itself is likely still mostly good and fixing it up again would be cheaper than building a new one. Even with the tether cleanup costs. Also blowing it up pollutes the orbits with smaller particles of space junk which would be more tricky to clean up and delay fixing the elevator.

Separating the tether might work. Sever it at the atmoshere and a couple more times in different orbits. Though damage would be harder to control. It might honestly just be easier to plan for the tether breaking and letting it wrap around the planet as a best case scenario. Alternatively I guess they could sever at the atmosphere, attach thrusters to the tether in orbit and launch it into the solar system. That would be fun.

And yeah, that 54 month trip is absolutely torturous. Atleast they do have those holodecks.

Definitely a slow burner, but I like it so far.

I did fall asleep for a minute near the end of the second episode, but that's more in me for being tired than the show, but it doesn't help when so much is soft spoken characters and the episodes being so long.

Yeah, I couldn't get this show to load on my Roku, but every other app is working just fine.

Ended up watching it on my iPad where it loaded without issue.

Finished first episode. This shit has BUDGET BUDGET. Felt like this episode alone has money worth what some blockbusters are lol.

Really liked it though. I love hard sci-fi shows like this with budget to show their imaginations. I hope for more seasons.

God damn this show is gorgeous!

And I love Lee Pace, and the entire idea of the Dynastic Emperor, a cool idea and change from the books.

I found myself not really caring about the Foundation ship at all, however. Even at the end of episode 2.
