I know it may change later but the music in this trailer sounded like Assassins Creed to me, especially opening the chest. Whole thing felt like an SE take on Ubi's formula which I don't know if it will work out well for them.

You really see why publishers don't branch out into new IP. It doesn't make sense.

All I can think watching this is how much bigger of a reception this game would have as 'Forspoken - A Final Fantasy story'.
Tell that to ND when they were making The Last of Us.

New IP's are a must! Especially with a new upcoming generation.

I see a lot of potential, but I am bewildered how this footage got out the door. Like everything seems clunky.
What's extra funny is that the character jumping in the air seems like it was intended to mark where to cut the gameplay segement, but whoever cut it just left the jumps in.

As someone who didn't know anything about Forspoken before watching this clip, I definitely don't want it now.

They got way too much VO going on, the classic trap of wanting to make the character more expressive, but it just becomes annoying.
The main character is having some kind of conversation in her head with another character while also making the regular grunt noises when running and jumping, responses when attacking enemies ("take that!") and even a "yup!" when making choices in an ability wheel. If they want to play at that level the VO needs to be top notch, but it's unfortunately rather flat, based on this video at least.

It's an interesting mishmash - more interested after that gameplay.

But
- The off-to-one-side camera perspective is horrid
- Gary Whitta's writing is atrocious
- The magical nail polish is one of the worst ideas I have ever seen in a videogame

Do mainstream audiences really like it when the characters never shut up? It's super annoying to me, framerate was rough too. Hopefully it has a 60FPS mode, even at 1080p if needed.

Yeah, why send out such an early build when it clearly has some optimization problems right now? Not the best slice of gameplay to show off, either. To be fair, the previews for Guardians were pretty rough, too, and that game turned out great (though mostly the story, which I doubt will be this game's saving grace).

Oh so it is magical nail polish? I didn't really pick up on that. Hilarious. haha I quite like how off the wall that is

I've kinda known this for a while, truth be told, but this game isn't looking too hot. I guess there's a chance they turn things around in the next five months, but meh.

Not saying this game is going to be incredible, but this game is still about 5 months away from release. Thats plenty of time to polish the performance issues.

I personally think this game has a lot of potential. I don't get how people can write off a game showing a work in progress footage.

I much rather this, then showing prerendered/CG footage up until release.

Uhhh, yeah, not for €80. Atleast not in this state. And that's fine, I can wait for a pricedrop. Guess I'll get Kirby as my spring game.

It's a shame. Maybe this is just a really poor showing for the game, but to come from something as interesting as the Agni's Philosophy tech demo to this is... well, it is what it is.

At the same time, it's really great to see Horizon Forbidden West capturing people's hearts so much at the Game Awards despite being a cross-gen game with graphical competition from Forspoken, the Matrix, and Hellblade 2. Art direction really is king. Can't wait to see what teams like GG can pull off with a PS5 exclusive Horizon!

IGN just made the video private when I was a minute in, lmao.

From what I saw, the game has potential but the optimization is noticeably poor, and it could use some serious polish. I'm not especially sensitive to framerate and I found the gameplay way too choppy.

Needs more time in the oven for sure. I hope the final version looks much better.

Besides the performance issues, the constant weird/out-of-place grunts, self-talk, and annoying talk to the bracelet thing should be overhauled.

I'm going to go with the opinion this game will not see a major delay then and SE will just put it out there to see what it can do with low expectations and not put much more money into it. I mean they green lit these previews.

It's put on private.

Wtf I was in the middle of watching it and now it's been delisted.

What I saw, they really didn't sell the game very well. All she did was running around then skipped all enemies and only fought a small group of mindless enemies once by only kiting.

This is the first game Squeeenix is charging next-gen price for, and it's up for pre-orders now.

I get that's where the industry is headed price-wise. But at this point in time, that price tag is still news for a lot of people; and if you are going to present your first "next-gen" game, for a new, higher price tag, the expectations are going to be higher.

And right now, this game is clearly not matching those expectations. We'll see how it looks in late March- I'm assuming that's when they'll start the marketing blitz, once FF Origin is out.

Game is just hideous looking. I don't understand why this studio's art direction is so bad. This and FF15 just look like pure shit. Other Square games look great, I don't get it.

Gameplay-wise, looks like FF15 and AC Origins which is to say, not good.

I'm guessing IGN wasn't supposed to show b-roll as one continuous gameplay trailer without commentary.

All the other previews were different.

S-E PR strikes again. Looks really rough. But then again, it's inline of how FFXV was early on which is to say it's Luminous Engine shitting itself as usual.

Cross-posting from the other thread:

- World looks BROWN as fuck. Like, early PS360 era brown. Not the best environments to show off.
- Technically it looks underwhelming for a next-gen too. The visuals are nothing impressive and the framerate is meh. But they're selling this for $C94 as a fully next-gen game. Yikes.
- I hope you can turn off the battle voices/dialogue. I don't mind this on occasion but it'll turn annoying real fast.

+ Traversal looks fun
+ Magic combat has potential
+ Getting Dragon's Dogma vibes overall which is not a bad thing.

It's kind of crazy that it looks more generic/bland than Dragon's Dogma though >.>

So was this an IGN gameplay video or one sent to them by Square? Not that it matters but I wonder if Square asked them to take it down or if IGN did so of their own volition.

Wow. They pulled it. Could it have been just an issue with what they were allowed to show? Or was the reaction that bad?

Too many invisible thumbs-downs maybe, lol.

Footage looked like b-roll, which you're usually not supposed to post raw -- it's provided to sites and channels to cut up/edit together for previews. IGN probably got an angry email about that and took it down. Probably had nothing to do with thumbs. That said, it's out there now, so kinda pointless.

Choppy framerate aside, I... kind of like it? I mean, I was expecting it to be a Ubisoft open world full of quest markers for meaningless things, but at least traversal looks fun.

That gameplay showcase wasn't the best, though. Why is the person playing it running past everything? I wanted to see more of that town and maybe some interactions with NPCs, but they just rushed to that quest marker instead.

Also they made combat look a bit rough, just running in circles while shooting magic. It was kind of chaotic. And her magic barely did any damage to these zombies? Either way, I didn't like seeing numbers pop up over enemies whenever a spell hit them. It makes things look a bit too "gamey" IMO. And I agree that the setting wasn't the best for a gameplay showcase. Why is everything brown?

Otherwise I like how her nails are customizable. In most games you usually have armor, rings, necklaces... But here you have cloaks and nails, which are traditionally associated with femininity. It reminds me of Bayonetta, a game that many people say uses female symbology in an empowering way. Well, it looks like Forspoken is also trying to be a female power fantasy but done right, as the main character doesn't have to get naked all the time for the sake of fanservice. I like that.

I really hope this game turns out to be good. I think it has potential, although right now it looks a bit rough. I'm afraid it will end up failing because of all the negativity surrounding it and Square Enix will blame the game for having a black female lead instead of their pricing policy and their urge to get it out too early when it's clearly still a bit unpolished.

The FFXV hate in this thread is too much. At least that game has gorgeous art design and can be made to look beautiful on PC.

Maybe they took it down to remove those scenes where the player just jumps on the spot. Pretty sure those were just there as video cut markers.

FFXV is a game i don't even bother talking about on this site.

Some act like that game killed their dogs lol.

Agreed, I love the look of the customization options. I saw a bunch of cloaks there. And the nails thing was neat.
