I think people tried to loot Bay Plaza last night too but weren't successful a lot of cops were out there. Stores in Co-op City are starting to board up their windows, Walgreens boarded up last night and closed early National Warehouse is starting to board up now.

Very sad. Sad for the business owners affected and sad that this will be attached to the real movement and used to belittle it instead of being recognized as what it is.

I just can't support looting, you're either fucking over the small business owner who may not be able to open back up or you're fucking over the hourly employees who live paycheck to paycheck that may not have a job now if or when that business opens back up. Insurance does not guarantee that the business will open up, will hire the same employees back for the same hours and wages, and that those hourly employees will be able to pay their bills until they can work again. Its creating more pain and suffering and distracting from the message. Its justifying the thoughts of those against the movement.

It makes no sense looting mom n pop stores. The property violence needs to be more directed.

Cuomo needs to gtfo himself and tax his rich buddies already.

Stop looting - especially looting small businesses. I am all for the protests though, but people looting is wrong.

It kicks out mom and pop stores, leading to newer 'out of town' stores once things re-open. It forces a higher police presence in the area, leading to more abuse in the short term. In the long term, it forces current residents to leave and makes newer residents move in.

Its quite literally the most stupid and short sighted action one can imagine.

After the Vancouver riot, the police formed a taskforce to investigate the selling of stolen goods. Sometimes it took several months, but a lot of the looters were eventually charged. Sometimes it was easy. A kid making minimum wage who sold a bunch of Louis Vuitton handbags on ebay is looking pretty suspicious.

Worth noting Dyckman folks are out defending against looters.. a rumor was going around that uptown was getting hit tonight so every business boarded up and the locals are out in full force.
