It appears many other gamers are as well. Capcom announced today that the game has sold 3 million copies in its first week of sales. That's a truly staggering sum for a remake, or for any game.
The source article

Considering that the "first week" was effectively only three days (last friday being the release date), that's mighty impressive and confirms what some might already have been suspecting after the game sat at #1 of the global beststeller list on Steam for a good three days.

Also interesting is a comparison to the first week sales of other bestsellers from 2018 that the article provides:

For some context on what 3 million first week sales means, let's look at some other games:

  • Estimates place Assassin's Creed Origins (2017) sales at about 1.5 million in its first week.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018) sold an estimated 4.2 million units in October with an October 12 launch date.
  • Monster Hunter World (2018) sold an estimated 2.45 million units in its first week of sales.
  • Far Cry 5 (2018) sold an estimated 2.4 million units in its launch week.
  • Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 17 million copies in 12 days
