I rarely ever use my PS4 as the games rarely look good with the back boxes that are needed in order to be displayed on my 1440p monitor. I'm so used to games filling my screen up when playing PC that it has just taken the wind out of any sails of me picking up a console game. I really wanted to play tlou2, Spider-Man, etc. I picked up GOW and I lasted maybe 20 minutes before going back to PC because the experience wasn't what I wanted.

so I ask, will 1440p gaming be an option? Will my choices be either 1080p or 4K with nothing in between?

I have a PS5 preorder but I keep thinking that it probably won't be used much if at all if it does render comfortably using my monitor.

1440p is an acceptable output. Series S is literally marketed as a 1440p console. Do some research before posting this.

BenQ says PS5 does, but no official word yet. Will likely have to wait for that embargo to lift (6th I think?)

BenQ line involving 1440p removed, apparently. Damn

Series X yes, PS5 no one knows yet, at least officially speaking that may be under embargo still

I've played PS4 and Xbox 1 games on my 1440p monitor and not noticed any issues...what am I missing here?

Xbox One and Series consoles support 1440p output resolution (if a game is 4k, it should supersample it down to 1440p), unknown at this time if PS5 does (PS4 did not).
