Do you have a recommendation for a "realistic" preset? Most of the ones included seem to change the colours completely and add a lot of other effects.

I started with Gshade/SrenayaRealismGameplay, took out fakehdr and toned down the colorness and saturations and some minor adjustments in brightness. Then switch to noir when I play SAM lol.

So as I make my way through Heavensward I'm considering actually buying the remaining expansions. What are my options? The site was kinda confusing. Is it simplest to just go with the complete edition?

Either the (current) Complete Edition or the Starter Edition/ARR + Shadowbringers. They both include the same content (base game + all expansions) and are the same price (at MSRP at least, maybe you can find a better deal on one or the other some place)

Keep in mind that the subscription starts only when you redeem the code, if you buy a code from the SE store for example. So you can proceed leisurely until the end of the HW patches content, and only then redeem the Complete Edition and start your sub. Also, remember that there will be quite a bit of data to download once you do. Which depending on your internet speed might matter (since you can't download it until after you redeem it).

Go to character configuration and change the target filter for "when weapon is drawn" to just enemies then you don't have to cycle through so many things. Usually just pressing X button should select the closest one you are facing. (It may still select NPC for some reason even if the category isn't selected but it's smaller list to cycle.) If you want to always auto lock there's an option in there somewhere.

Second of all, to more directly address your question, to find a new target all you do is press X. If there is an enemy on screen you will target it. There isn't really a way to auto target a new enemy after one dies, but you just press X. I wouldn't worry too much about selecting a particular enemy with the d-pad, X targets the closest thing you are facing and usually that is good enough.

Use R1/L1 while holding R2/L2 to target enemies, you don't really need to lock-on with L3. You can read more on this on the first page of this thread.

I trained myself to push R2/L2 trigger with middle fingers so my index finger can press R1/L1 to quickly change target. It takes some time and I'm still slow, I often fail to double tap R2/L2 for the WXHB.

Hard lock is generally not recommended since you need to disengage first before moving away and this can make a difference if the boss is using quick AOEs to hit you. Not to mention that peeps usually pull wall to wall in dungeons and fighting with so many mobs with hard lock on can and will impair your effectiveness.

It takes some time and I'm still slow, I often fail to double tap R2/L2 for the WXHB.

One of the best things I did for my controller settings is swapping L1/R1 with L2/R2. Took some getting used to but it's a lot easier to press and hold down the bumpers over the triggers for me.

I've hit the infamous 46 to 49 wall. I've read the best way to level up to 49 is to do FATEs and dungeons. I hope the grind doesn't burn me out because I was actually having fun with the game even though the mission structure until now is basically garbage:

- Go speak to 20 people
- Go kill X mobs (thank God the drops are guaranteed)

The second is expected and it's not so painful, the first is sooooo badly done.

But I've read it gets exponentially better with the expansions so I'm waiting on those.

Just do your roulettes/dungeons. Leveling Roulette gives you a ton of XP and should get you to 50 pretty easily. Once you're done with daily roulettes, just do the highest level dungeon you have unlocked and you should get to the right level without much problems.

FATEs don't really give enough XP to be your primary method of levelling.

Weird, I havent done a single regular quest, just msq and I'm already 60 in the middle of HW, no grind at all.

So I can't do any of my job quests to unlock abilities after ARR until I get all the way to Heavensward? I'm level 52 and I should be unlocking my Lily Guage finally but there's no quest.

Like the other poster said, roulettes are your best bet (You get a massive bonus once per roulette per day). Also don't forget about PVP, one match should give you almost a full level.

I also haven't had this issue at all. I was doing roulettes pretty regularly, that's probably the reason why.
It's easy to miss that the levelling roulette even exists, I didn't start doing it until I was at the beginning of Stormblood, but yeah, if you do that every day you'll be wondering about which alt jobs you should be leveling instead, because your main will be so far past the MSQ.

It lives up to its name.

Hmm, Afflatus Solace doesn't seem to require a job quest to unlock. Did you check out where Raya-O-Senna is?

And as for unlocking job quests, you don't need to go all the way through. There are certain points were they do unlock tho.

I went through that exact scenario so I can comment:
was lvl 60 before even entering Heavensward, and, yes, until you do certain parts of Heavensward, you can't unlock your additional 50+ skills.

Hey guys, I appreciate the advice! I changed off of legacy camera or whatever it was to the other option and it think that helps. As silly as it sounds, it didn't know about X targeting, but it was night and day when I made that change. It is a little weird still since I'm used to holding R2 during fights so I can use abilities, and obviously X is can't do lock on when that happens, but it's still 1000x more manageable than what I was doing before.

Is there a 64-bit client for Windows? I've logged in to my account (that I haven't used on Windows for a long time, last I played was on PS4) but I don't see an option to download and if I just download it from here it appears to be a 32-bit client (at least it wants to install to the x86 folder).

I'm running this in boot camp on a Mac if that makes any difference.

EDIT: Looks like the launcher is 32-bit rather than the game.

Because holy shamoly is it annoying when someone says something important and the log is flooded with messages, scrolling ever downward and preventing you from reading the important one. This issue has plagued me for years since I started and I can't find a solution anywhere. It's on PC if that matters.

I know of a workaround at least; you could add a new tab to the chat (three are there by default, you can only add another one) which shows only whatever you want. For instance, I have it set up to show the CWLS and the FC, so that I don't miss out on those messages. It might work in your case as well?

How long is the ARR content? I'm downloading the trial now, but I heard that's pretty poor in comparison to what comes after

Pretty substantial. I started with the expanded free trial on the 5.3 update. ARR took me 104 hours, and Heavensward (which is also included in the trial) took me 111 hours.

Currently 134 hours into Stormblood.

you did a lot of extra content. Pre-pruning it took me 75 hours to get to Heavensward. Post pruning it seems you can get there in around 50 hours if all you do is the MSQ.

I don't think it should take that long for MSQ. It'd be helpful to say what you did beside the MSQ to get the general idea of why it took that long. Otherwise just dropping big number like this would just scare people off lol.

Lol wasn't mean to scare anyone off. It was more I didn't think ARR was as much of a slog as everyone says, since I did invest that much time into the content and kept going.

For more context, I did pick up pretty much every feature / blue side quest I saw, plus grab all the jobs as they became available. Only leveled one job throughout though and didn't touch crafters / gatherers at all.

That still comes across as a whole lot to me..
I started the free trial at the 5.3 patch as well, ARR took me about 70 hours, with some side-questing, all blue quests and heavy duty roulette use (did some extremes, extra dungeons not related to MSQ, etc.), 3 combat jobs (to 60) and 1 gatherer + 1 crafter (to 50). It is still very long though, 150 hours to "complete" the trial content (ARR+HW) is a minimum for a new player.
I'll echo the "ARR wasn't so bad" sentiment though, honestly there's two very boring parts (right in the middle and the beginning of the post 2.0 quests), that last about 10 hours, but the rest is quite nice.

I have most types of chat filtered out except for party. But you know how people are with spamming and talking over each other.

Resizing the window any larger wouldn't be great, since the UI in this game already looks like grandma's 20-toolbar Internet Explorer.

It's crazy to me that they don't give an option to turn off autoscroll considering the multitude of tweaks they put through. It makes me wonder if other people somehow avoid the issue
