This is just a snapshot of how much stock was available.

However, Series S was definitely fairly slow to sell out in some places in EU, being readily available for several hours.

It will be a distant third this holiday I wager.

Series S is still available right now on amazon italy, france, spain, germany.
And that's with a supposedly really low stock.
At least in Europe S doesn't seem to have done well in this phase.
If it's because it's a gimped model that people do not want or if it's not the kind of product people rush to preorder we cannot say atm.

God, how I missed these Amazon chart threads and the bickering that resulted. We're truly in a new console gen!
Hopefully the NPD predictions threads will be lively again with more than 2 pages. Some folks just need to tone down the fanboyism.
Its pre season for the upcoming DF threads.

Anecdotal:

Where I live in the Middle East (Kuwait) the biggest retailer here is called Xcite, they had 1500 PS5 that where sold out in 3 hours, in the other hand XSX only had 200 pieces to be preordered and they where open days before the official world wide preorder date that was mandated by Microsoft, still though not yet sold out and yesterday in one of the more than 10+ branches one of the employees told me they only sold 1 XSX console the whole day.

I can guess the situation is repeated through out the region.

The issue is the S isn't targeted at people like us.

It's meant for the mass market. Now weather that means it works is another thing all together but people who go into a frenzy preordering these things aren't the main focus of the Series S.

Am I missing something here, how is this a far comparison XSX has been available for a day vs the PS5 which has been going in and out of stock for a week.

The fact that the XSX is so close after a day is crazy.

We won't be able to tell until the product is on the market, that's the reality.
As an example people said similar things about the Xbox ONE S All Digital Edition ("yeah it bombed at launch but it will be huge during the holiday season because of low price and casuals and moms buying stuff") but it simply turned out that that model was not desired.
Are we sure that casuals are going to spend 300$ to buy a console that plays the same games they can play on their current console given that there's not even a big technical jump?
We will find out when the products are out, but so far the pre-order situation for the S has not been particularly good.

These consoles are selling out minutes (PS5) or hours (Xbox) after being available.
PS5 was already where it is after a day. More days is useless when they all sellout in hours.

I think the series s sold out on amazon sometime around 4pm in uk. So it took 8 hours, unlike the PS5DE.

7pm, so 11 hours. Was keeping track for some people I knew who were semi-interested but were prioritising trying to get a Series X first. All the positions tell us is roughly how many consoles Amazon had been allocated. Length of time the Series S sold out compared to PS5DE suggests there was less interest initially, but with the Series S being #11 in sales compared to #16 for the PS5DE, they clearly had a fair bit more stock of the Series S to shift compared to the PS5DE, so depending on the five items between the two, the allocation difference could either be a lot or not much.

Smells like 2013 in here. We'll keep hearing how both are sold out world wide (one won't be) and told not to read too much into early numbers.

It is interesting that Sony was able to stock more PS5s when we had all these reports about their manufacturing woes and heard nothing of XSX manufacturing.

More popular items get more stock in stores so I don't understand the dismissiveness of stating "all this shows us is which has more stock".

Well, you shouldn't. (The ratio was 45/55 and then became 33/66)

Because we don't even have numbers here.

After 24h since Amazon Pre-Orders unlock and as we speak Xbox Series X is:

#1 Best Seller in Amazon France, surpassing PS5

#1 Best Seller in UK

#1 Best Seller in Italy

#1 Best Seller in Spain

#1 Best Seller in Germany

#1 Best Seller in USA

#1 Best Seller in Canada

An incredible feat managed by Microsoft, especially with the final Bethesda-nuke drop.
The fucking console wars here have gotten so bad we need to take screenshots of how well a product is listing at a specific time of day.
Gotta spin it to win it! As the saying goes... There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and hourly sales charts.
Can't believe we are using Amazon charts again.
New zealanders prepping their cliffs for throwing playstations.
Oh the memories, it's all just a little bit of history repeating.
This is really a show of supply, not demand, but interesting none the less
TBF you're right, there is some value to the numbers purely in terms of relative supply to individual markets through this one global retailer, there's not many other global or even national retailers that give the public access to these sorts of figures, so we take what we get and in context can see it for what it's worth.

The people saying don't read into the numbers believed that the ratio was only 55/45 because of stock and not demand. So saying the ratio increased doesn't prove their point. And once the first two quarterly reports came out this gen it was easy to see the ratio was only going to increase.

The same thing is happening in this thread now.

Oh yeah.

I'm just saying this doesn't tell us much yet.(a vague fuzzy outline at best)

The mods have updated the title after my request to better reflect the situation (focus on supply because both ps5 and xsx are sold out).

Thanks for the clarification. I had one in my basket about 4pm and was considering picking one up but didnt.

I wouldn't expect the series S to sell very well to enthusiasts during pre-orders. I think it's strength will become apparent during the holidays when price conscious grand parents are looking for gifts.

Australia
Here in Australia the PS5 is 13th and XSX is 20th. 1st is the duel sense charting station. XSX controllers are 9th, 11th, and 15, 10th for that XSX chance kit, and the PS5 controller is at 14th. As for games Valhalla is 6th for the PS5 version and 19th for the XSX.

This is pointless as this only reflects how much stock Amazon got and how many consoles the manufacturers are able to produce.

Seeing as every console that is available is going to sell out likely for the next 6 months, we're not going to have any idea of real success until there is some form of supply and demand balance.

Apple used to say how many phones they sold opening weekend and eventually stopped releasing that info 5 or so years back, because it had no bearing on demand for the product as it sold out opening weekend every year and simply just reflected how many phones Apple was able to produce for the opening weekend.

The PS5 not being categorized on Amazon in the US is funny, lol.

How is this a huge feat? If the only console released in the last few days couldn't hit #1 something very wrong would be happening to Xbox.
Also...of course it surpassed PS5. That one sold out last week. You can't sell less than something that doesn't sell.

Console warring and all that aside, I'm excited for some genuine competition this console generation which will hopefully push PlayStation to give it their all, especially with their online services that are objectively abysmal to this day.

I was weird not having any Xbox One exclusive to feel bummed about not getting to play, the future is going to be interesting (at least when it comes to consoles that is).

To think that Latam Xbox preorders were delayed to keep the stock of NA makes me think that the stock situation of the Xbox consoles will be dire for a while.

It's great to see that Microsoft is going to be competitive next gen! This gen was kind of over before it began. A competitive Microsoft is good for the industry!!!
