From the Sakaguchi/Yoshida talk at Tokyo Game Show. Just going for what the interpreter said so it's not 100% guaranteed

  • Main Scenario are complete
  • Models are almost complete
  • They just have to brush up some of the quality a bit
  • Yoshida said Square would kill him if he revealed how much time production lasted (my guess is since Heavensward so 2015/2016)
  • They started with the scenario and they didn't stop working on it. They started with a small number of people. The production period was long but they didn't want to increase manpower until they had something that was good and they decided on what they wanted to do.
  • They prioritized scenario and then divided the scenes
  • Sakaguchi asked if he could write a quest for the game. Yoshida said he could do it for FF14 instead, he replied he doesn't want to go against Matsuno and Yoko

Sounds like Yoshida really learned from what bungled up...nearly every mainline FF after XI with the production process and took that into account here.

Having a game like this get announced and still feel relatively close to being released is still astounding. It's almost anti-Square in how this is going along.

I mean we already knew that they had finished recording the voices, so yes it's not surprising that they have finished the main scenario

Midgar, With Love
Yeah, I was thinking of writing a piece on this somewhere but the translation was a bit rough for me to feel confident typing anything with certainty.

Good summary of what I think was said, lol.

It is possible that Naoki Yoshida said FFXVI might also have a skill tree when they were talking about Sakaguchi's Fantasian's skill tree

but i am not sure

I know there are good production reasons for it at this stage, but it still kinda breaks my heart that Sakaguchi can't write a quest. :(

God I cannot stand the roman numerals for this game I always have to really pay attention to figure out if it's 14 or 16, just use 16 instead ugh!!!

Good lord, I just can't fucking wait to see the game in action again :(

Very curious to see if there are somewhat noticeable visual improvements (I'm fine with what was shown tho).

Didn't they say they were going to have new info this year? Is it to late for them to show a trailer this year? Wonder how long we will have to wait for new info. Maybe after Forspoken is out.

There's still a pretty decent chance to see something this year. In particular there is The Game Awards, just a couple of weeks after the release of Endwalker, and based on what we know they should be close to ready. Yoshi-P had previously said that they were hoping to be ready to have the next big reveal ready in time for TGS but they weren't sure if they were going to make it. Clearly they didn't make it, but one would think they're not far off.

If they had changed their minds about showing it in 2021, I guess they'd had said so.

I'm betting on late November/December.; there's plenty to choose from: TGA, Jump Festa, a winter S-E Presents, a State of Play (or PSX if it's ever coming back)... Or even a random drop.

What does "Finished the Main Scenario" mean? Does that mean the game is in Alpha and can be play from beginning to end?

Man it feels so good to know a main entry, single player Final Fantasy is in great hands. Yoshida is a phenomenal producer. He just knows how to handle a project. I am so excited to see this game again.

Is it known for sure whether this is cross gen or not?

I need to know whether I need to buy a PS5 for this.

So far only confirmed to be PS5. It appeared to be also coming to PC but any mention of that was scrubbed and there's been no mention of a PS4 version.

I'd imagine PS5 only with either 6 month or a year of exclusivity then a PC release on Epic store for another year of exclusivity.

i hope they reupload the stream, it was a little overwhelming to watch and listen and read the translation live.

sakaguchi just retweeted this famitsu tweet:
"FF16" Naoki Yoshida mentions the development status and the existence of a system close to the skill tree

The character's 3D model is almost complete. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of "FF", participated in the costume design !?

It means the entire script for the crit path story is done and yeah , it might also mean you can play through a very buggy version of the game potentially beginning to end. I have to assume it's still 12-17 months away from release (late October 2022 to possibly even March 2023).

He's saying all the right things… hope they feel comfortable speaking more about the development process once the game launches, I have so many questions.

Assuming they really did start in 2015, what are the odds pre-production work on FF XVII has already started?
