The photo was just of what's likely an NPC based on your description though, right?
Also I'll say again that this seems like an honest mistake and I don't blame anyone for it. Seems there was a lot of reason to believe this was it.

If anything they say turns out to be false then I am happy to hit them. If I know it's bullshit then we don't have to have this conversation.I say, stop with the cheeky hinting if you don't wanna be held accountable. Thanks.
Well of course, I am not disappointed because I didn't expect anything, and I assume people should be responsible for their behaviour and expectations - to some degree, but that goes both ways.If anything they say turns out to be false then I am happy to hit them. Otherwise there is gonna be some level of responsibility on you and other users - I don't care if I come out and say "THIS IS CONFIRMED FOR THIS DATE AND TIME" - manage your expectations. Be hopeful, but assume it is false - that way you're always surprised. I'm happy to hear news early, but if it doesn't pan out, oh well - I will somehow survive.
Just to give some more context on why I cheekily teased FFXVI being at yesterday's SoP:
Yesterday, a few hours before the stream, I got a photo of a new XVI trailer.
Yes, off-cam picture in 2021 is funny and all but the content is 100% real and from a person I completely trust (and also not capable nor interested in "faking" a FFXVI picture), Hecht has the picture so they can confirm as well. If you ask why it was a phone capture and not a screenshot, it was on of those "eheh check out what I'm looking at" kind of situation.
And yes, it's a brand new frame of the game because I know the old one by memory.
I asked the person who provided me the picture if the trailer would be at yesterday's State of Play and they said yes.
So of course, with tangible proof and very little time before the event, I've had 0 doubts about it's present.
Now, it wasn't there as we all know. I believe what happened is that the person who provided me the picture was looking at the new trailer and, without much knowledge, assumed that this SoP I talked about was the event planned for the trailer.
So, sorry for hyping it all up, but honest mistake on all sides and I myself was disappointed at not seeing the game. At least we know there actual is a trailer coming soon (the only other thing that could be is that was not a trailer but the actual game, but idk if I'll be able to verify that with my source without sounding like an asshole).
And no, I will not share the picture because it was sent to me as a friend and the picture shows the laptop it was taken from pretty clearly, so I will not risk compromising the person that shared it nor risk my relationship with them. Please understand.
Sure. I agree. But something that isn't *incredibly revolutionary* also should be treated as such - a new screen that doesn't necessarily showcase a new feature or something isn't necessarily false (I will clarify that while I've seen the pic I can't verify its, uh, veracity)Well of course, I am not disappointed because I didn't expect anything, and I assume people should be responsible for their behaviour and expectations - to some degree, but that goes both ways.

Thanks for the clarification! Can't wait to see it when the next trailer is shown! That's correct, is the one character we see getting behaded in the 2020 trailer, which now I assume is the Duke of Rosaria and Clive and Joshua's father.
Really not the most mindblowing frame to discuss about or anything, to be honest the person that shared it with me just wanted to show me the white chocobo with an armor.
Without disturbing your friend too much you could ask for a few more details about the trailer. For example, if there are party scenes, I think a lot of people would thank youThat's pretty much it, I will join back the circle of people praying and desparing for new news as it is my most anticipated game. And I love discussing it and speculate with you all.

And to take the load off Hecht, who I didn't want to drag in the discussion, the only thing you can do is compare the screen with the old trailer and see that it is something new, of course that doesn't confirm it's 100% true outside of what I say. And I imagine if you don't play FFXIV you might get suspicious haha
Please stop with the leak begging. It's desperate.Without disturbing your friend too much you could ask for a few more details about the trailer. For example, if there are party scenes, I think a lot of people would thank you
You are right we have to wait, the trailer is not far away. Sorry. Please stop with the leak begging. It's desperate.
EDIT: That came off a bit harsh, sorry. But I really do think leak begging is a form of harassment and we shouldn't be doing it.
This is the most info we've gotten in like 6 months. I'll take it!That's pretty much it, I will join back the circle of people praying and desparing for new news as it is my most anticipated game. And I love discussing it and speculate with you all.

Cmon mate don't be like this lolWithout disturbing your friend too much you could ask for a few more details about the trailer. For example, if there are party scenes, I think a lot of people would thank you
It really is, though. It honestly isn't. It's always been handled better than I would have expected and more carefully than I've seen anyplace else.

For some reason the best FF movie (which doesn't mean it's good) is shunned while they keep somewhat riding on the awful, awful Advent Children. How have they never put Aki Ross in Record Keeper or Theatrhythm, seriously even Benjamin from FF Mystic Quest is acknowledged by modern SE but not Aki Ross
Yeah... By the way I just realized I posted in the wrong thread, I wanted to post in 20 years of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within lmaoFor some reason the best FF movie (which doesn't mean is good) is shunned while they keep somewhat riding on the awful, awful Advent Children.

Wada probably burned all the copies, assets, and source filesIt marks a super-rough phase in Square's history. I wouldn't be surprised if the company willfully forgot about it ages ago on that account alone.
Haha, I figured, yeah. Saw the thread earlier.Yeah... By the way I just realized I posted in the wrong thread, I wanted to post in 20 years of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within lmao
Edited my post, but yeah, that too for sure.It marks a super-rough phase in Square's history. I wouldn't be surprised if the company willfully forgot about it ages ago on that account alone.
I think stuff like that is kinda hard to parse from an off-screen shot in any case (and it could also be an old screenshot).
I don't think an off-cam screen can tell us the level of graphics achieved. There will be some improvements, but nothing striking, Yoshi-P and his team focus on gameplay and story mainly.
Ah, the screenshot talk made me think of Chocobo armour at least. Wonder if we'll get to customize that.
The apparent lack of significant graphical update makes sense, in any case. Whatever change is there, it'll be minimal, but probably welcome.
Yeah, my last post says as much. It's just to adjust expectations about Yoshida's words on graphics. Expect a cleaner, more polished game, but nothing crazy.Don't take my words on this as gospel.
It was an off screen picture which means quality clearly was shit, to me it looked like last year's but that's about it.
I am also not a person that cares much about graphics or even has a good eye for it.
And, without context of when the content was taken, we can't make any guesses about the state of the game.
I don't know, Remake looks amazing, but there are a lot of rough areas (locations, assets, NPCs...) even in Intergrade. I think XVI looks about on par, with some stuff being imo superior to stuff in Remake. As you acknowledge, though, it's a WIP, yeah.I believe if they want FFXVI to have the level of sucess of GOW, Horizon or The Witcher 3, the game needs to be impressive in graphics or the scale of the world.
I think its really strange to see FFVIIR with better graphics than FFXVI(at least for now)
I really couldn't care less about graphics. I rather have a FF with a big world to explore than a corridor game.I think its really strange to see FFVIIR with better graphics than FFXVI(at least for now)

I don't know about that tbh. I think at least when it comes to character models, 7R is noticeably better.

VIIR is the most unbelievably beautiful game. CBU1 are really talented.I don't know about that tbh. I think at least when it comes to character models, 7R is noticeably better.
Me too. But ff16 grapichs Is fine. Ff7 teams focus on some details and forgets other things (corridor areas...), Ff16 teams seems to be the opposite lucklyi'd rather have worse graphics than another corridor simulator
I am generally of the same opinion too. One of the things that really struck me about XIV's design philosophy is that the devs also appear to take optimization and performance very seriously. Even if XVI doesn't turn out to be the most graphically stunning game, I imagine it will run smooth as butter no matter what.I think that it's way more important to focus on the scale and level design of your game and then try to push your graphics as much as possible, not the other way around, which makes development more limiting. If a game gets good word of mouth and is attractive enough, you'll have an easy path for success. Like Monster Hunter World is Capcom's best-selling game ever (still crazy to think about!) and, while it's by far the most advanced MH and looks pleasant, it's not a game you see and go "wow".

I don't really have any worries about the scope of XVI's environments, having seen XIV's area design for myself.
To be fair we shouldn't compare pre-alpha shots to final game shots.I don't know about that tbh. I think at least when it comes to character models, 7R is noticeably better.

Hmmmm.I asked the person who provided me the picture if the trailer would be at yesterday's State of Play and they said yes.
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if most main characters end up looking more pleasing in Remake, which did a bang up job there.I don't know about that tbh. I think at least when it comes to character models, 7R is noticeably better.
FF14 has always ran like shit on consoles. And now the native PS5 app still can't get 60 fps, and it actually runs worse than the PS4 app running in backwards compat mode.
also, I have to roll my eyes at people calling FF7R a corridor simulator. Game has multiple hub areas to explore and it allows full backtracking. Just because a game is more linear in style, it doesn't mean its a "corridor sim".
You might have already watched it, but Noclip's FF XIV documentary mentions, iirc, Yoshida's attitude towards XIV's baffling graphical decisions and offered some insight of his overall philosophy regarding graphics and game design.I am generally of the same opinion too. Yea, but those FFXVI trailer shots are all we have to go by for now. Hopefully in the final game they look better graphically. To be fair we shouldn't compare pre-alpha shots to final game shots.
Early FFVIIR images were not great either.
I think you are right about the lightning. Especially during day time the lightning in the trailer looks quite flat which doesn't do the character models (and even the environment) any favor. Hopefully that's something that sees a big improvement by the time final game comes out. I also think the character models themselves look just a bit dated, especially in terms of face/skin features and hair. They kinda remind me of FFXIII and FFXIII-2 models.Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if most main characters end up looking more pleasing in Remake, which did a bang up job there.
But (and this might very well be wishful thinking, although I'm fine with the current visuals), I think the main problem with those shots is the really flat lighting and shading. I also think younger Clive's model isn't looking as sharp as older Clive's, same for Joshua or that woman. Not saying that any potential upgrade will make them look better than Remake's characters, though, that's a high standard.
In any case, the protagonist's in-engine model (it's not CG as you see plenty of imperfections) will probably be used for cutscenes, whereas real-time Clive should be a step down from this, but sharing the same overall look, like in Remake and other games that seamlessly transition from cutscene to gameplay. I think he looks in the same ballpark as Remake's main characters here:
At the end of the day, though, I was mostly talking about things beyond the character models. Remake, even in Intergrade where the memory-related texture problem was solved, has many areas that are really lacking, especially NPCs and the geometry and texture quality of many assets. But goddamn do the main characters look perfect.
