the time skip in XV is one of the most awful narrative executions I've ever seen in a video game. I felt nothing during most of the end climactic scenes except humor during the stupid photo part.

The only thing they nailed was the campfire scene.

I think what didn't work quite as well was showing how the world was impacted over those 10 years. We just wake up at night in the prison during the eternal night or whatever. And then we take an ominous drive towards Insomnia. I think there should have been more time spent here with more story.

I think XVI will do its time skip a lot better, My hunch is that it will be half and half, or after the first quarter or third of the game, the change happens.. Maybe earlier.

Time skips allow for huge character/world progression without having to design the character numerous times or design long quests just to show the character progression, as long as there's some explanation/cutscene of the inbetween it should be fine. XVI seems to be a story of progression of mc based on what little we've seen.
XV's time skip was rushed, had no character progression as Noctis was asleep through the whole thing so he didn't change at all, the world which had progressed wasn't shown besides a few areas and the progression of other characters wasn't explored sufficiently either.
I'd imagine XVI's timeskip would be akin to Naruto/One Piece's time skips which didn't have much of the world developing but the characters developing/focused on.

No. If anything her role was vastly expanded from whatever crap Nomura was planning for Stella during the Versus XIII days.

lol my GODDDD....

Thats possible, yeah. He also said XV would have the best story since VII though. Just consistent dishonesty from him throughout that game's marketing cycle.

Thank you for being another person that consistently points out the absolute sham of a marketing cycle it was

Ocarina of Time really did well showing the world change over that span of 7 years. I think seeing those changes is important. Explore the aftermath , the ruined cities, the changed terrain, etc. I hope XVI does this smart and well.

I think we are playing the festival of the ducal were Clive becomes the shield for Joshua, and I think the Marlboro in the swamp is apart of that or surrounds it. A war happens that we see in the trailer and then the invasion of Rosalia.

Yes, Rosalia should actually be a long fallen kingdom for most of the game. They might let you see some of it in flashbacks.

But maybe we'll get to go there in the present? I also wonder who and how many people will know who Clive is.

I can't argue with that! It's just an amazing and beautiful game.

Can't wait for the Jack vs Clive Death Battle video.
They both get dusted by Lightning, the most OP FF protag

The day of reckoning is getting closer bruvs, it might be in a couple weeks or a couple months, but it's getting closer regardless.

I think we will explore the town before the invasion happens. It won't begin on that invasion... But FF games have begun like that before. We will see. I just think the town exploration will be a lot better in XVI overall and they will take advantage of it from the start.

I expect the next XVI trailer to give a glimpse at Clive walking through a city filled with NPCs and marketplaces and architecture. (Similar to the XV Jump Festa 2014 trailer where Noctis walked a bit of Lestallum.

I wonder if they'll really show both Forspoken and XVI at the same PS summer show. I guess that was also the initial plan for the 2020 ps5 unveil event before last-minute changes.
I hope they aren't afraid.

I always feel like there is this weird thought where all publishers involved want XVI to be THE main presentation. And I always feel super lucky and weird when we get events that actually have a VIIRemake and KH3 trailer back to back. Like Square Enix showing TWO HUGE BEASTS is like unspoken taboo almost as far as their history of presentations.

My gut feeling is to expect only one showing, one of the two games. But I really hope I am wrong. If i had to pick one to see in a few weeks, it would be XVI.

There might be two timeskips, because there is a period of time where Clive seems to be enslaved by a faction to do his bidding in some fort of prisoners task force. The tattoo he has forbids him from disrespecting orders, in a literal way it seems. At that point he doesn't have his final costume

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought too. Hopefully they'll show both.

I wonder how party switching is going to work with how action-y this gameplay seems to be going. the gameplay looks way more character action like DMC and bayonetta than action RPG like FF7remake and XV

and I'm almost certain we're getting a playable party cause that's what FF is all about. even XV realized that just Noctis was lame and expanded it so the rest of the boys were playable

cause if I have to play as Clive all the time I'll probably be having fun but I'll complain about it every now and then

XV was supposed to have the party switch in the first place. It wasn't finished so it didnt make it into the vanilla game

I think we'll be only playing Clive imo. Hope there's more tho!

Bearded Noctis' return to Insomnia while Somnus starts to play in the background is one of the greatest emotional peaks of Final Fantasy series.

This was such a great segment. I really wish Square did more with it.

I can't imagine how long this must take to upload............the quality at 4k is stunning even for youtube standards. It would probably take me an entire day to upload that. I'd be really curious what his encoder settings are for sure

as much as I like Clive's design, we really need some women and minorites in the party

just because Lightning had 3 games to herself doesn't mean square should have no women playable for the next couple of FF games

I'm pretty confident this is still gonna have some form of ATB/cool-downs on skills/items. It's easy for people to assume it plays just like DMC, but nah, it's gonna be a mix. Like when Clive used fire on the Malboro? That's gonna be tied to charges or MP, you won't just be able to spam that. They can do different things depending on the ability and the character. Clive used a launcher like Dante (or like Lightning, actually…), but for all we know that's actually a macro'd skill that only he can use. It might be tied to an ATB charge or it might not.

We can assume all kinds of stuff from that first trailer, but the HUD is huge context that's completely absent right now.

I like X but I think XV is unambiguously my favorite FF story since VII.

It's got a super strong emotional core and it peaks as high as FF gets imo. The last couple of hours are some of the strongest FF has ever been.
Agreed. That ending is one of the best in the entire series. The emotional high in the last chapter really delivered to me. Prob my favorite ending to a FF since X

Hopefully FFXVI won't have DMC combat, SE like their mainline titles to be assessable for all so this should be the same. They have Origins now for that frustrating gameplay.

I am sure we will have party members, you can see someone helping Clive in the Swamp section on the trailer but the lack of battle UI it's hard to tell if it's a party member or a NPC.

Not sure I follow. If the ally is an NPC and not a party member, how does this solidify the game will feature party members?

I really hope we spend more than half the game as punisher clive

Timeskip Noctis is too good for the short time he was playable and young clive looks even dorkier than young Noctis

I can't believe we haven't gotten any information on this game since...November? The Sony show better be real or...yikes...

We got the website in... January, I believe.

Have you been around for previous FF development cycles? Specifically, the radio silence phases?

This will likely be cake relative to some of those when all is said and done.

The site was the end of October, 28th if I recall. I'm frustrated, but yeah, even if we had to wait until September (please no, I'm begging) that's still an update far sooner than the last few FFs. We've hardly been waiting at all relative to the last few games, honestly.
