Why does the voice acting always sound so weird in SE trailers? The Honey Bee scene is so weird because the music and dialogue sounds off.
It's because they cut it strangely and I've always found that basically all voice acting sounds bizarre when you remove the background sound effects. It's recorded to be heard alongside other things, not layered completely on top of silence.

Welp, we have Red helping in the Jenova fight but not listed in the party member roster.

NPC officially confirmed.

I'm saying that if you think this is bad then you don't know what actual bad (english) voice acting sound likes. Because the voice acting is actually pretty decent, it's not world class but it's not: "absolute shit" either.

Oh OK, thanks for being clear. Yeah, I disagree. Sounds like absolute shit to me. No reason we have to see eye to eye on that. Also, it won't hamper my experience as I will play in Japanese. Still my most anticipated game since the original Final Fantasy VII.

EDIT:

Also let me add that for what this game means to me, even "pretty decent" voice acting I consider unacceptable. They hit everything else out of the park, to sully that experience with even average voice acting is shameful. Everything must be up to par lest the entire experience can be brought down. Shitty voice acting can take an otherwise poignant or touching moment and turn it into something forgettable at best or a laugher at worst. This is "fine" voice acting for Pokemon or something, but for Final Fantasy VII Remake and the masterclass that it looks like they're putting together in every other department, it is unacceptable to me personally.

I understand some people are annoyed they're splitting ff7 into multiple parts. But when I see the remake, they look super expensive to make. I can believe SE saying there's just no feasible way to release this game as a single $60 purchase. It'd take waay too long to make and need to sell waay too many copies just to break even.

Looks great and frankly the VA sounds strange in both languages. I don't know how y'all can listen to the Japanese version and not think it sounds like it's having a lot of the same issues with how it's cut into the trailer that the English version is having.

According to Wikipedia FFVII Remake started full development in 2015 and with it releasing in 2020 makes it about 5 years in development, which is longer for an overall smaller game.
So technically FFVII could be pretty content rich and also be more polished than FFXV.
FF7R had a reboot of its own midway through in 2017 or thereabouts though, when they ditched CyberConnect2 and brought development in-house and put the guy from Final Fantasy Mobius in charge.

The they-took-her-boobs-away-brigade will never go away. Kill them with fire.gif Imagine thinking that version 2.0 doesn´t look like a big breasted supermodel? Like how even... I´ll keep my hype engines on the low, over 2 decades in the SE salt mines were just too much for me and KH 3 Re:Mind (5/10) isn´t even a week old, but the remake´s visual all get my blessing. It´s Advent Children designs (also directed by Nomura) - The Game.
Yoshitaka Amano´s take on her:

Look up his paintings in general, not just the FF (VII) stuff. Ehrgeiz and Dissidia had this outfit. It would be weird if the remake(s) skipped on costumes but I smell DLC. I just do.

Ever since FFX I've come to realize some have ridiculously high standards when it comes to this stuff.

It's not high standards is just flat out not wanting anything other than japanese language because the hell do I know, a perfectly valid choice I must say, but just wish they were more honest instead of always trashing english dubs.

They think the Tifa they see in their porns is the real one, it's useless, they have that idea ingrained in their brains and can't let it out. Funny thing is that remake Tifa is bustier than Dissidia NT but still, same old song.

Looks really good. Red XIII doesn't seem silly or out of place, and fuck yeah Cloud in a dress, that whole part of the trailer is excellent.

I think that plot point is going to hit really hard in this remake.

I don't know if it being taken away from CyberConnect2 counts as a full reboot. IF you go back and watch the 2015 trailer, the same cutscenes and even gameplay concepts are still there (you can actually see the ATB bar filling up with successive attacks, just like the current system, albeint only one instead of multiple).

I'm sure it was a setback having the new team take over, but I don't think it really went through an entire reboot.

I don't get people's obsession with huge boobs, it's just a fucking videogame character. Those virgin nerds are the worst.

It's all about hyperbole on these message boards. I've seen people call games/graphics that aren't that bad "complete dogshit." Just can't be helped lol.

Ever since FFX I've come to realize some have ridiculously high standards when it comes to this stuff.

I think a lot of people have sort of been almost... tricked by Japanese anime voice acting? As in there is a near limitness number of great Japanese actors but in a lot of stuff like anime (and by extension games) are told to basically turn everything up to 20 and very much more trope-y focused. People in Japan don't talk like anime characters. And so when people hear any other voice acting that isn't being turned up to 20, they assume that the voice actors are doing something wrong and since we have a group of people who (are not native Japanese speakers themselves) grew up watching Japanese shows, have this almost bias against voice acting that might be more subdued and natural.

Seeing people praise the Honeybee thing and yeah they improved stuff but looks like the scene is still about tricking a guy into thinking Cloud's a girl that he'd want to be in bed with so maybe don't act as if the scene is progressive now????????

2 things about that trailer I didn't like. Its spoils the shit out of the game and that boss battle theme kinda doesn't hit the same without the electric guitar and organ. Why did they go more traditional for that???

The Honey Bee Inn. part actually looks pretty good & it was honestly the highlight of the trailer. Can't wait for April.

Dialogue is fine, it's the voice acting that's absolute shit. Which is why I play these types of experiences in Japanese. How it is 2020 and this is the level of voice acting Square has given us, in the age of something like Witcher 3, for such an anticipated game, is beyond me. They literally sound like Saturday morning cartoon show characters from the 80s. But as long as the game is awesome it won't affect me because I'll never hear the English language track.

Speaking of which, anyone know if there's a subtitled version of that Japanese language trailer?

Nah, even the dialogue. It sounds so unnatural and so... translated. People simply don't talk like that. No native Engish speaker in their right mind would ever say such things to express whatever is happening. Stuff like: "The stench of the director's cowardice fills the room yet again". I mean really now? Really!? It's an English phrase alright, one you might find in a book, an old one presumably, but no one actually ever speaks like that. Ever.

That song is.. hm... Well i'm happy to see Nobuo in shape at least!

That trailer is fire, so much footage.. So many unseen characters...
Now i'm a bit surprised the cross dressing doesn't outrage more seeing in the end it's ultimately used as a comedy and uncomfortable thing. It's still gay scare humor it seems..

The script sounds so unnatural. Humans don't talk like this lmao. That rock song is not doing it for me.

Beyond that, the game is so incredibly gorgeous.

I feel like I'm alone in liking the English dub thus far.

Though (some) people tend to really value overacting so anything not over the top seems to be considered bad.

I like the English dub in videos I've seen so far except for Barret who comes off as an 80s-90s stereotype.

I agree but honestly, It sounds like standard anime dialogue, you don't get good dialogues in these. They could make a better localization but you would get with an outrage for not being accurate enough I guess.

I can prefer the Japnese dub of FF XV but can still see that the US dub of FF XV is good, even if it changed characterizations a bit. The ones for FXII and XIII are also quite solid. The clips I saw from Advent Children were ok, I think, but I only saw the Japanese version from start to finish. Dirge though, ho boi. The same crew was wasted there.

The US dub for FF X ain´t good. Like at all. It was citizised even in 2001 by both the press and fans. This is 100% better but still not good. Basic quality standards aren´t high standards. That said. Metal Gears sounds better in English even if I like the ultra-professional Japanese dub. I ain´t a snob, I just have ears and ALL released footage in English sounds like a J-RPG dub from the PS2. Fail/10.

The myth that dubbed anime dialogue can´t be good is a myth. It always was. There are even good anime dubs from the 80s. Robotech´s is quite listenable to this day for example even if standards moved past it. Minus the shite singing. Harmony Gold did a better job in 1985, lol.

Looks terrific and I dug the song.

April 10 is fast approaching and my hype for this game is building faster than an ATB meter. Let's go!!!!!

Would be even more work to make it compatible for in-battle, so I can see them opt to not make it available.
We'll have to see.
More likely than being available in battle, I think they will just cook up more scenarios for this outfit and Aeris' to be worn. Cloud's too.

The title is Final Fantasy VII Remake, is this still an episodic game? If yes, then why no mention of part 1 in the title?

I've never played Final Fantasy VII and wasn't particularly hyped for the remake... Until this trailer. It was so good.

Suffice to say, I had no idea about the cross dressing stuff, but it is really cool that Square is sticking to it! With my limited knowledge of this game and the game I am about to mention, it reminds me of the content people speculate is holding Nintendo back from releasing Mother 3. Is that fair to say?

I wonder if the acceptance of this game and that kind of content might alleviate some of Nintendo's concern? Or are they not comparable? (Again, not super knowledgeable about either game)

This was a surprising trailer because I did not expect to see all that I saw. My husband was sitting next to me watching it and I just start laughing my ass off at the Honey Bee Inn. We thought they might cut it but it looks like they made it even more over the top. Also, I said "Oh shit!" when Red showed up.

"Spoilers" just don't affect the enjoyment of stuff to a lot of people. Experiencing stuff first hand & in its full form & context can still be enjoyable when actually playing/experiencing stuff the first time, even if you have already seen some 3-5 second snippets from a bunch of scenes in trailers and some stuff doesn't come completely out of the left field. And, like, watching a boss fight and being in control during that boss fight yourself are two totally different experiences. Even if you've already seen some spoilery boss fights, having to beat them yourself & deal with their attacks, spells & different phases is still exciting.

It still diminishes the effect, at least for me. Especially in a case like this where I already know the story and the main draw comes from seeing it rendered with modern day graphics. But to each their own.
