The song I most strongly remember from VII is the Main Theme. Aeris' theme of course is there and Tifa has one too (albeit far less memorable), but more than anything else the Main Theme stands out to me because it feels like the theme song for the entire planet.

But like Gaia Lanzer said, the big problem with VII's soundtrack is just the low-quality synths that make up a lot of the melodies. VI's score uses its limited soundfonts far more effectively than VII did with its own. VIII and IX did a much better job of this.
I def agree there.

I guess the people in charge feel it fits the animu sensibilities of this game. But to me it's just yikes.

They might not have stuck with you, but FF7 undeniably has just as many different leitmotifs as FFVI for characters and locations if not more, and unlike FFVI, it also has a thematically musical through-line running over the soundtrack in the form of Aeriths' theme, which can be heard in multiple arrangement over several tracks.

Personally, I also prefer FFVI's soundtrack, but you're selling VII's short.
I agree. VII's soundtrack has a lot of motif work in the songs. It's not quite as noticeable I think as in VI's soundtrack but it's great work, and I love both soundtracks.

Midgar, With Love
Being honest, i was very skeptical before, but this seems better than what i expected. They are not being shy of being silly and letting some ridiculous stuff happen, and even letting cloud be himself it seems. The tone seems way different than advent children was, so now i'm way more relieved than before. For the first time in years i'm looking foward to a square offering.

Yeah, this seems a hell of a lot better than Advent.

Looking good. Some cheesy parts, but when the source material is already kinda cheesy playing it up a bit probably isn't the most offensive thing they could do. FFXVI is where I've been placing my hopes for a FF that leans towards a more grounded/serious approach, this is mostly what I already expected FFVIIR to be like.

The main thing I wanted from this trailer was Summon footage and I got that, even if it's heavily edited to obfuscate what the mechanics are like, so I'm happy.

After FFXV I'm not sure how much of what is shown here is actually going to make it into the game. SE loves to go out of their way to make flashy trailers that don't resemble the end product.
I get where you're coming from, but this is a very different situation. The most important difference that this is footage of a game that's coming out in 6 months. When they showed XV gameplay 6 months before the release, it was pretty much what we got. What they showed at the reveal on the other hand... was something completely different and honestly, I'm not even sure that game ever existed outside of an exciting proof of concept video. When you look back at FF VII R's debut gameplay, it's honestly not far off from what we're seeing today. Seems like development on this one is waaaaay more consistent.

I absolutely loved that trailer, I got sent right back to when I was 15 playing through it the first time. I am so hyped for this.

This game looks incredible. Easily my most anticipated game of next year.

March needs to hurry up.

I actually kind of hope the summons just work the way they did in the original game. Interrupting cutscenes that do huge damage. The whole playable summon thing from XII, XIII and Type-0 is cute once and then it just becomes kind of a chore.

Also it severely limits the times and places you can actually use your summons. Alexander basically won't be summonable ANYWHERE if it's a playable summon, for example.

Why is SE calling it the VII remake release then? That's what I don't understand. Why not just add part 1?

Maybe
this one ends with the crew beating Shin-Ra, Sephiroth only exists in Cloud's mind, and the team lives happily ever after once the president and Vice President are defeated AND THERE IS NO PART 2?!? Twist of the ages! How bout them happles? Huh?!

Becuase this is a full game. Adding ' part one' to it makes it sound like it isn't.

People just can't get their head around the fact that this is a complete reimaging of the orignal game not a 1:1 remake. This is the first game in a overall saga but it's a complete game.

It's like having to put 'part one' on the start of a movie trilogy.

Now they could give it a sub title..which they may well do.

I loved how bombastic and imposing summons were in XV but didn't enjoy how they were entirely unpredictable. If we can summon them at will but it just be a stunning animation I'm all for that.

Unfortunately they're kinda fucked no matter what they do. By putting no number on the box they're essentially lying to customers about what the game contains.

And then REGARDLESS they'll have to do "Part 2" and "Part 3" for the later parts. They need to get in front of this shit now and be honest about it, on the box, rather than pretending "it's a full game so it doesn't matter if 90% of the story isn't in it!"

I feel like a subtitle would have been revealed by now.

The next game- now that I can definitely see having some kind of subtitle.

Sometimes (like with my Lucas comparison) the creator is sometimes an idiot, and sometimes being reigned in or having restrictions makes for better stories. It's why editors exist. The best ideas in the world sometimes need someone else to filter and trim them to be "better." No one is above it.
Sure, and that includes you and me, you know? Honestly, I dislike Sephiroth's inclusion in Midgar. I dislike the whole specter thingies. I suspect I'll like the story better without those noise, just like I would most likely be happier if Reno's last action in the church is saying "don't step on the flower" while uncaringly walking away. But I won't frame it as my vision being truer than theirs, as "fanfiction" would suggest. Can't we just express disagreement without that kind of dismissal? I'm sorry, I suppose this has little to do with the discussion itself. It's just a personal grievance.

And speaking of disagreements...

When I said "blanks" I referred mostly to the world building aspect of the game. Because holograms already exist in that world. Super advanced flying automaton already exists too. So when you took umbrage with the president's hologram, I got the impression that it's somehow a science too far, just because something exactly like that was never shown in the original game.

Furthermore, Jessie in the original game is a naive girl who built got surprised at how destructive her own bomb was, then jeopardized their entire mission just because she had a crush on Cloud. I don't feel like anything shown in the trailer really makes a worse impression of her.

And lastly, I was talking about the flashy fights when I'm suggesting that it's what the creators wanted to begin with because... Well I don't really how the fights in the game could actually be "grounded". Even ignoring all the bombastic magic and Limit Breaks, how would you envision a fight with a 5-story monster underwater go?

Hype!

These trailers since the re-reveal have been a mile a minute, hopefully they show a bit more of the downtime closer to release.

They could always use "Episode" 2/3; though I wonder if this indicates how they'll tackle future parts. Are we looking at a FFXV situation again with a live game approach? Episode Nibelheim, Episode Wutai, etc, released primarily digitally with a complete version down the line
