There's something I'm curious about: does Aerith know Biggs or Jessie? We know Biggs worked at the Leaf House, that he was Ms. Folia's predecessor. We also know that the children knew and were fond of Jessie, thanks to their NPC chatter as you walk around the area. Putting two and two together, with Aerith living most of her life in the Sector 5 slums and coming around the Leaf House frequently enough for the kids and workers to know her, she had to have at least known Biggs in the past, right? There's nothing in the game that alludes to this, though.

So I'm super late to this party, just finished the game and just wanted to say that this felt like Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0 put together.

Hope Nomura looks at 3.0 as what NOT to do in a sequel...

Ty for this, great video.
I think i may start learning japanese to get ready for part 2, if what they say on this video is true, the translation team did even worse than i thought. The blame for this may lie elsewhere of course.
I think this video is great overall but I think Vizz is completely wrong about his one theory that the Whispers were trying to keep Zack alive at the end. That makes no sense.

They were trying to kill him, and he survived because they were defeated by the party.

I agree with you, my guess is they were trying to make sure he didn't survive the fight.

My copy of World Preview arrived today. All in all not too interesting, it's essentially a hardcover glossy magazine, but it includes a new exclusive short story by Nojima concerning Aerith's childhood. Kind of interesting, I dug it. Just a heads up for anyone who still wants more until Part 2!

Just finished reading through mine! I was a bit disappointed as I was hoping to get more than what the art book shared from the deluxe edition, but I really appreciated the little call backs to the OG, and the story bit at the end.

Watching my partner play through FF7R finally, this is his first time playing through FF7 at all, and I have NO Idea how to explain the ending to him when we get to it without spoiling some major stuff that occurs in the original 😬😬😬

Anyway I was just wondering, do we know exactly what happened when Tifa and Marlene have their moment where the green static appears and suddenly Marlene calms down? Just saw that scene again and I really can't remember lol.

Sorry, no can do. But you might be able to purchase a pdf of the story online.

Yeah the story was a nice bonus. I'd love for Nojima to write more shorts. There's so much more I want to know about! lol.

It's also nice to have all those screenshots in one tidy book. Looking back over them reminded me of the hype build up before release and how fun that was. :)

I think you meant Aerith and Marlene. We do not know explicitly what happens, except that it has happened a few times in-game, like when Aerith did the same thing to Red13. It seems to be some sort of transfer of knowledge, perhaps a Cetra power, or a lifestream power, or both. It probably is a type of 'image', most likely of the future or an alternate history, as is suggested by the Whisper Harbinger battle where those similar streaks of light enter into the minds of the party members. They seem to be 'seeing' something. My take is that they aren't seeing the future, but they are seeing visions that the Planet/Lifestream provides them. Aerith has many more of these images in her mind, because of her special status as a Cetra who gets them all the time from the Planet, but in a way she doesn't always understand.

Finished the game. Good game with atrocious pacing but dang what a spectacle. I just wish we got more of the last 15% which is when the "fantasy" part started to show itself. I don't think this game had a satisfying conclusion as a standalone product as it just created a ton of questions without really answering them. Just so many flashbacks (or forwards?) and cryptic comments. Bah.

I never played the original so I don't really know anything about this story aside from the fact that Aerith dies in the original. Did the ending imply that Zack is also alive?

Also the random cursing just felt so out of place. Especially when Cloud was like "bring it, bitch" or something. Tone overall was all over the place.

whoops I did mean Aerith, sorry I was super tired lmao. Yeah thanks that's what I was thinking, I just really wish and wanted to know what she specifically shows her lol.

Beat the game a while ago but I don't understand the ending as I reflect.

Are they basically saying the remake is in an alternate reality (and indeed this has been hinted at by other things like when Barret died and then he didn't) and at the end things get fundamentally different, meaning part 2 will be COMPLETELY different?

Are they rewriting the story?

Are they just adding filler because they don't know how to proceed in telling the story yet?

The ending was just weird. It went from FF7 remake to FF7 Kingdom Hearts-esque silliness.

Well, these are basically the questions you're supposed to wonder to keep "the social media buzzing" as the developers said, during the hiatus until part 2 is released.

Is it an alternate reality? Yes. They basically baked in the fan's desire to keep the story the same into the story as a plot device (the ghosts) to literally make the player kill them and give the story ability to freely go into any direction.

How much they're actually now going to rewrite story? Only little changes or big departure? No one knows yet, please wait and buy part 2 to find out!

Well, there we have it. The manifestations aren't Cloud, Tifa, and Barret. They're Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo. I might have missed discourse that already confirmed this but when last I checked the fandom there were still two camps on this one.

Oh! I hadn't seen this thread. I beat the game about... a month ago? And I just beat original FFVII this year too. I had a great time with both and loved the remake, was worried about them changing the story too much but apparently they've said it won't be too different in the end? I'm really excited to get a look at part 2 hopefully sometime next year, though with XVI who knows how long the wait will be.

Also just want to say the Aerith memes on page 1 are so wholesome.

World of Lifestream and World of Meteor is some straight up stupidass KH stuff. I'm going to assume those will be the split timelines. One in which Aerith's lifestream destroys Meteor and Advent Children happens and one where the planet is left a cold and lifeless rock (probably where that end scene takes place). Question is, does this mean Zack being alive is part of the Meteor timeline? So Sephiroth did make the group inadvertently fuck things up in his favor?

The rock they are on at the end is the "edge of creation" which appears to be a sort of purgatory or tipping point between the two realms: one that resembles Jenova (reddish?) and another that is beautiful and colorful.
If I was a betting man, I'd say that Jenova already won and infected the entire world in that reddish nebula. Omega was summoned and took the Lifestream of Gaia to a new part of the cosmos. Life began anew and history repeated itself. Gaia wanted to maintain the cycle because it survives in the end albeit saved at the 11th hour.

Sephiroth/Jenova however wants to infect Gaia and the Lifestream in its entirety, throughout the cosmos.

Aerith knows his plan to some extent and realized she has to go against the planet to enact a new plan to save Gaia and the cosmos.

Zack has some role to play, either for Sephiroth's plan or for Aerith's

that's my theory.

Eh, I mean, these aren't necessarily actual worlds or anything. The Lifestream was already a concept, so it could be the Planet's will versus what would happen if Meteor fell.

So what's the deal with Marlene after Barrett crossed the other side? Will Aerith's mother adopt her like she did with Aerith? Or will they find their way back home. Part 2's going to be so interesting.

Marlene stays with Elmyra (Aerith's Mom) up until the end of the game and her looking out the window was just a call back to the ending cutscene of the original.

Just beat the hell house battle and it's possibly one of the dumbest, shittiest video game experiences I've ever had. Not challenging in any fun way. Just annoying, obnoxious, cheap ass bullshit and you're so relieved you finally get past it.

Just finished the game on PS5. The battle system felt better than the demo, which I quite disliked. The game felt like FFVII, so I am overall pretty ok with it.

But man the last two chapters were annoying. Multiple bosses in a row without possibility to save between. Also Rufus, the Whispers and Sephiroth bosses were unnecessary. I realize they wanted/needed to have a final boss, but one would suffice. The Whispers boss was way too fucking Kingdom Hearts anyways, so should have just dropped it.

So VII Remake got 2 awards on TGA.

Both best OST and RPG. That's pretty good.

I think FF VII Remake did great in the aawards, fully deserved. I am so happy and can't wait for XVI and Remake 2.

PS: to be fair, considering that OG FFVII is the best OST ever produced for a videogame, that specific award was a piece of cake for remake.

Best RPG and Best OST were the two categories I felt the strongest that FFVII should sweep so I'm so happy right now. :3

So many questions. All we can do is speculate until we get the rest of the game and who knows when that's gonna be. This can go all kinds of places.

So I plunged and re-bought FFVII for the uptenth time, on Switch this time. It's kind of surreal to have FFVII on a cartridge ha ha.

I put my Switch in English to play it (with that said, why these games do not have a "select language option" ? 😩), since the French """localization""" is SO MUCH WORSE than I remembered it to be.

And...holy shit @ Barrett. People weren't kidding about the whole ebonics caricature. He's way better in the French version and French version of FFVIIR. Now I wonder how's the Japanese script.

I got to my first really difficult fight. Whisper Bahamut. Of course it's one where when I die, I have to replay the previous 30 minutes. I died several times on him. What can I do against him?

I don't think I can even leave and go grind if I wanted? Everyone is on levels 33 and 34 if that matters. .

a little bit on the low side for levels but you can survive Bahamut if you manawall-magnify the party and have Aerith spam heals while you switch party members constantly to pull aggro and cause him to change focus so you can get off casts without getting interrupted.

I guess also keep party health topped off before he uses his limit.

Thanks, Mana wall made it pretty easy. I should have figured that but I never even needed to look at RPG buffs before now.
